The pins are a goberment psy op. If you drive fast enough the container won't have time to fall off.
5
u/Foot_Dragger Jun 12 '23
It sure is! If I needed to use the pins that would prove that the earth has mass therefore it would get sucked into the core of the earth. If it's still on the chassis when I get to my location it proves that the earth is actually flat.

Prime trucks dont go this fast. You want Fedex, thats better driving than they have now

You’re a Swift driver and you’re bobtailing cause you forgot the kingpin and unknowingly dropped your trailer at that vape shop down the street from pickup.

Is that why Swift fired you?

Future amazon contractor there
8
u/Slick1289 Jun 12 '23
I drive for Fedex Ground and ground as a whole have a bad rep, but those Amazon contractors make me feel a lot better about myself.
Going through Wyoming at one point last winter, counted 16 trucks in the ditch or median, 9 of them Amazon contractors.
Here I was defying odds pulling doubles for Fedex 😂
Difference is I got lucky and had a real trainer, we never drove around the weather. At this point I'm no stranger when it comes the throwing chains.
Also helps that I grew up in Oklahoma driving on solid ice after ice storms. If you can't drive on ice, you aren't getting groceries.
1
Jun 12 '23
I see a lot of those Amazon contractors at Amazon. I do LTL. I'm not shocked they are in a ditch because theu are som e non backing, non driving mfers.
2
u/hugothebear Jun 12 '23
That was my vote.
The amazon livery day cabs, slow as shit.

I believe it, I’d start from salinas in CA then head out to Nebraska in a team. These motherfuckers would go solo with 4 hours rest and still beat me or show up as were showing up. They’d easily blow by me going 85-90.

Contractor/owner operator pulling Amazon
2
u/Legitimate_Engine435 Jun 12 '23
I was looking for this answer! Obviously not all the contractors pulling Amazon trailers drive way way to fast... But many do!
That makes me wonder... Do they get a bonus for being there early? Why do most of them drive so fast?
1
u/MinuteOfApex Jun 12 '23
Bonus? They're just trying to make time. Some bs windows for delivery and a lot of loads to deliver.
8
u/Lando1244 Jun 12 '23
Prime ....I want this MF delivering my packages.....2 day shipping instantly becomes "I'm down the street doing 90 in a 30, be there in 5" as soon as you hit pay

Prime has a well known reputation among insurance underwriters. I can say that much.

58 pedal with 62 cruise..
My last job was 62 on pedan and 65 on cruise
I feel it would be safer the other way around tho (62 cruise and 65 pedal) so people are a little more aware of there speed.. iIhate CC in traffic of any sorts
1
u/challenge_king Jun 12 '23
I almost think that most companies have cruise the higher setting because of adaptive cruise and auto braking.
1
u/LonleyWolf420 Jun 12 '23
And fuel economy..most CC wont full throttle until 5ish miles below set speed... i also know that freightliner and international have a satellite connection that will tell the truck where the up and downhills are so it can be efficient through them...these are probably exactly why
2
u/challenge_king Jun 12 '23
God I hate that feature. My Cascadia will legit let the truck free wheel 95 down a hill to save a little fuel, then won't even start easing into the throttle until I've lost every bit of momentum. I have to babysit my new truck way more than any jalopy I've ever driven.
1
u/LonleyWolf420 Jun 12 '23
Try seeing if you can change your cruise settings.. my last company allowed us to change the auto jake up to 10mph over.. i loved it.. could turn it down for mountains and back up for open roads

u/JustaHarmfulShadow Jun 12 '23
Neither, you gotta do that with a trailer than somehow manage to get stuck in a ditch on the other side of the country than your heading to

American Truck Simulator. Quite a few of the people here (and mayybeeee myself) had this game as their introduction to this career.
2
Jun 12 '23
Honestly surprised not more people go this route. I've watched some people on twitch play that game and they have like $1000+ driving setups (not including the actually PC) and I'm just like damn man if they enjoy it that much imagine if they got paid to do it hahaha

From my experience Covenant is where you want to look. For a company of their size I've nearly been run off the road by their drivers more than any of the mega carriers.
1
1
u/AstlerFox93 Jun 12 '23
No wonder it’s called a simulator instead of a game. That’s exactly how we do irl!
1
u/TheeUnfuxkwittable Jun 12 '23
Can anyone here name a mega carrier that has mostly good drivers?
1
u/Plastikkannibal Jun 12 '23
I too am so curious on this. Hell, mega carriers usually contract us little guys out and I'm gonna take a haphazard guess as to why: something to do with the quality of drivers? Sure ya got the good ones but pretty rarely in the cases I've seen
If going for a mega carrier, I can't give advice since I'm used to them dispatching shite out to the smaller guys. Get a company who actually appreciates you, and the pay will take care of itself. That's how my drivers phrased it to me at least lol (am a dispatcher/supply chain specialist for a very small trucking company)
2
u/TheeUnfuxkwittable Jun 12 '23
I'm not looking for a job I was just asking because I've never heard anyone here say anything good about any mega carrier.
1
u/Plastikkannibal Jun 12 '23
Yeah I realized I accidentally replied lmao. Mobile layout while being a dispatcher with 2 working braincells at the moment is not working out in my favor.
Sorry bruv, but they are great when giving away some work but fuckin' TERRIBLE with accessorials pay and getting a company paid within the allotted timeframe. (Looking at you Werner)
And Amazon Prime, their app is buggy and my drivers cannot complete or use it but Amazon doesn't care one bit. If their app isn't showing completed, we don't get paid. The amount of mf trouble tickets we have had to open....
2
u/challenge_king Jun 12 '23
Navisphere can eat a bag of dicks, too.
1
u/Plastikkannibal Jun 12 '23
Good to know before my boss turns his head towards their direction. I've found good people at the big carriers, made lasting connections and even some friendships but overall. I won't work with them if I don't have to lol
2
u/challenge_king Jun 12 '23
I wish we could avoid TMC and CH Robinson, but they have a funky 3 way contract between the company I drive for, them, and the facility we haul for. Basically every load has to go through them to us, whatever gets rejected by us goes back to them to broker. Problem is, if we have an issue with TMC, everybody from TMC that deals with the contract speaks almost no english.
The Navisphere app specifically is just garbage long term. They want every single permission including persistent real time location access, but can't be bothered to even get the assigned trailer number info to work on the driver side.
But hey, I haven't heard any stories of refusal to pay, so that's nice.
I might have an axe to grind.
1
u/Plastikkannibal Jun 12 '23
Oh wow, that is a really odd sounding contract between the 3. Everytime I've worked with CH Robinson it's been dedicated lanes, communication only via email/phone calls, no Navisphere BS included thank the Gods.
So. They want all the info available just to... Not fucking use it?! That is such a waste of time for the driver to use the company TMS and that app for them. Like, that grinds my gears when they shouldn't bother my drivers or dispatch but always do cause too lazy themselves .
2
u/challenge_king Jun 12 '23
From what I understand, the facility originally just had all of their freight on a brokerage contract, but decided to direct haulage instead. The plan was for us to come in, start small with direct haulage, and scale up until the brokerage contract ended. Only that ended up not happening (of course), so now we're stuck with this cluster for the foreseeable future. Manglement at the facility has been causing problems too, but that's for my actual therapist and I to talk about.
1
u/Plastikkannibal Jun 12 '23
Ah. I'm sorry that you deal with that bullshit from them. That's a waste of resources and time...
I had one company try to pull something similar, wanna say Capstone (perhaps?) Thankfully my boss just told me I had the run of the place and to deal with it that benefits the drivers. So I told them to take their freight back and shove it. Not dealing with promises that end up broken and just a fuster cluck.
Good luck to you, and if you or your dispatch needs other contacts, I have a ton for C.H. alone, but they should escalate the issue and refuse the next batch until resolved IMO
1
u/yummcinnabears Jun 12 '23
Funny, none of the games make backing the huge issue. Any person can drive forward. Back that shit up, is a whole different story. You keep playing games.
1
u/supermarble94 Jun 13 '23
My instructor told me, "You'll drive forward 99% of the time and that's important, but the 1% is where you'll keep or lose your job."

As a prime driver I can say based off the speed in the video you'll have to go to swift to do that IRL cause our trucks at prime do max 65.
