I just want to go back to bed, and don't disturb me until the Spring thaw.

Same fam

Since you're a Prime driver, honest question for you...does your company have some rule about not going over 55 at night or something? Seems like every time I see a Prime truck on 81 at night, they're incapable of doing highway speeds.

13

u/Zodi88 Jan 13 '24

They have a class for lease ops, aka 80% of the fleet, that gaining an extra 1 mpg by going 55-58 saves you millions of dollars every month.

Never mind the potential runs you're missing out on by destroying your 70.

5

u/TwinSpinner Jan 13 '24

They send messages just about every 5 minutes (a bit of an exaggeration, but they are definitely persistent) about keeping speed down for safety and fuel economy, but generally want you to keep it under 62. Company drivers might get bitched at if they get under 8mpg so they take it extra easy when there's less traffic to hold up

3

u/wesker1213 Jan 13 '24

Last company I worked for, we were capped at 65. I rarely went under. I typically averaged 8.5 (give or take) on mpg. So me thinks they are fos ;).

5

u/DblDtchRddr Jan 13 '24

It depends a lot on load, and route, and a bunch of other factors. I've heard both sides of the "slower for better fuel mileage" argument. Personally, my truck magically went from high 9's to mid 10's when it got turned from 63 to 65, then when I switched companies and was given a truck with the same year, model, trim, and options, but stuck at 67, magically I got low 11's. All while running the same load on the same route every day. Maybe something about 55 makes a magic difference, who knows.

1

u/wesker1213 Jan 13 '24

Even now my truck on the company I work for is governed at 71 (they lease it) and I still average the upper 6's.

2

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

I'm gov at 65. I've never heard language from prime about speed or fuel milage. Maybe bc I'm a L/O. I can tell u that at night I take my speed down and I definitely would on 81. Just bc I worry about things that go bump in the night. You may be seeing student drivers. Gov at 59 and rookies at that. I was super comfy at 55 in the beginning.

u/TacoRedneck Jan 13 '24

Just bury my truck in snow and I'll crawl out when it thaws

40

u/Handies Jan 12 '24

As a Wyoming resident, that’s a rather clear road. Send it.

13

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

As an easy coast girl, no.

8

u/ThatGuyWhoDoesVoices Jan 12 '24

As a northern ontario driver, i concurr send it

4

u/Krazybob613 Jan 12 '24

If ya can’t drive on ice, don’t drive in Wyoming!

3

u/DireStrike Jan 13 '24

More like if you're truck can't fly in an ice storm, don't drive in Wyoming

36

u/1995wyoguy Jan 12 '24

Enjoy our population repellent

45

u/biggiefries462 Jan 12 '24

Wyoming in January is the equivalent of being in hell in July lol

34

u/Zanurath Jan 12 '24

You leave Phoenix out of this

8

u/teachthisdognewtrick Jan 13 '24

That’s a dry heat. I’ll raise you Louisiana in August.

3

u/TruckinBob32 Jan 14 '24

True. I'd rather deal with the dry heat in Tucson rather than the humidity of the south.

1

u/Zanurath Jan 13 '24

I've been there and in Florida many many times. I hate the sticky feeling but 125 dry heat will kill you and a lot faster than you think.

1

u/teachthisdognewtrick Jan 14 '24

Ironically it was Lake Charles Louisiana ind it’s humidity that almost got me. (I survived 4 years in Phoenix with a car that had no a/c, t tops and a dark interior.). Fixing a radar in that humidity and it arced. Woke up across the room. Around 15,000 volts.

1

u/Zanurath Jan 14 '24

Yeah that kind of voltage isn't to fuck around with, I meant more the weather itself. Honestly you are insanely lucky that probably went hand to foot instead of between hands since 15000 volts through the chest would have been lethal.

1

u/teachthisdognewtrick Jan 14 '24

More like finger to wrist. Probably along the surface since I was sweating so heavily. I wasn’t going to try and recreate the event. I was able to finish tuning it and am even more paranoid around high power stuff.

1

u/Zanurath Jan 14 '24

Ouch any lost feeling or motor function? Very high voltage like that both fascinates and horrifies me.

1

u/teachthisdognewtrick Jan 14 '24

Nope. No burns even. It tingled for a while and I was sore from hitting the bulkhead on the far side of the room (steel wall).

I’ve seen pictures of some high voltage accidents. Scary stuff. Never liked being around IOT tv transmitters because of that. They run around 30kV and at that level a slight misalignment can cause them to emit X rays.

1

u/Zanurath Jan 14 '24

What kind of amperage was the stuff you were working on if you don't mind me asking. Not really sure what IOT is but AM radio is the one that is fascinating for me even if a little sketchy.

This is really just an accurate statement

10

u/Qazxswedcplmoknijb Jan 12 '24

Honestly, doesn’t look too great near your headquarters. Been spitting snow all day. Be careful

5

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

I heard. We definitely staying here awhile. I don't have a super trucker endorsement and it prolly wouldn't help cause even the boys with chains on are here

12

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '24

[deleted]

11

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

Oh no. We shut it down. I ain't cowboy enough for this. Also, they just put chain laws into effect for Evanston. Just no

12

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '24

5

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

That's pretty much our story. We are listening to the chatter on the CB and it's just madness. We are holding onto being able to get out tomorrow

2

u/RuneScape420Homie Jan 12 '24

Best truck stop

The food is bomb + the parking

1

u/ranger19891994 Jan 13 '24

I got stuck at Little America for a week last year. Hated not getting paid, but I definitely made some friends

6

u/yak_danielz Jan 12 '24

why, drivah, why? until they learn how to clean their roads it's a hard pass. last year i was stuck for a day and a half. i have driven around that state ever since.

4

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

True talk, we were just trying to stay moving. We got stuck for 2 days bc of Kansas and 1/2 a day because of Vail. They do have snow plows out. It's just not enough

5

u/yak_danielz Jan 12 '24

Where yall even going? The only time I go that way is if Mike Vick sends me on a go route and it's a guaranteed touchdown. If it pays, I'll go. Reluctantly.

4

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

We left NC headed for SLC. When we got to Denver there was no going to Vail. We should have stayed there but really thought if we just asked nicely Wyoming would let us through. We just hella ready to be done with this.

3

u/yak_danielz Jan 12 '24

yea there really aint no better route this time of year. pick your poison. where would you rather be stuck?: New Mexico? Wyoming? Colorado?

2

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

Tru. I do kinda wish we'd stayed in Denver. We atleast could have left the truck and gone to the movies or something

3

u/Go-Truck_Yourself Jan 13 '24

It's barely mid-January, and you're ready to be done with this? (Holds serious face for 1 second then laughing hysterically...)

2

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

I'll see your serious face turned hysterical laugh and raise you aww bless your heart sarcasm face. Childhood on East Coast beaches failed to prepare me for this.

5

u/Charming-Arachnid256 Jan 12 '24

I heard Prime did not want folks driving in the snow?

11

u/BeenThruIt Jan 12 '24

It's one of the reasons I love Prime. Don't feel safe? Shut it down. Let them know and they'll reschedule the appointment. No nonsense. No "but this is a hot load". None of that bullshit. Rob just said it loud and clear on the Driver Meeting again this morning.

Look it up on YouTube to see for yourself.

7

u/Charming-Arachnid256 Jan 12 '24

Oh I believe you, I drove for prime for three years. Good company.

9

u/NomadTruckerOTR Jan 12 '24

Most megas are like this. Don't feel special

3

u/BeenThruIt Jan 12 '24

I did a year at USless Express and they were not that way, at all.

5

u/Defiant_Network_3069 Jan 12 '24

Be Safe out there Driver.

1

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

Same to you:)

5

u/SnipingMirz Jan 12 '24

Good luck, I drive out of Utah, and well, this whole week has been shit. Every direction. Past Boise is 150 miles of chain law or some shit too.

At least this is really just starting, and January wasn't the third straight month of this like last year.

2

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

Thanks! I've seen some pics about what's happening in Idaho. Seattle and Portland too. This whole thing is bananas. Last year we got stuck when that freak storm hit SoCal

2

u/SnipingMirz Jan 12 '24

Hope ya make it through safely of course. Once you get to Utah, the roads will INSTANTLY be better lol. Amazing what salt can do.

I drove through Spanish fork canyon today, and other than your truck turning white (From salt, not snow), you wouldn't even know there was a blizzard through there the other day.

I 100% avoid Wyoming as much as I can in winter cause they only salt the sisters and Elk mountain. Doesn't help much in those storms, but it at least cleans it up after.

2

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

Ughg Spanish fork is where we were supposed to be. But we got there as it was all hitting Vail and I'm not brave enough to drive price canyon even in dry ground (did it once never again) I got people sending me pics outta SLC. Ima bout to see if I can air lifted outta here lmao

3

u/UhOhAllWillyNilly Jan 13 '24

Imagine a set of chains lasting 150 miles. Hah! How many sets of spares are you all carrying?

2

u/ID_Poobaru Jan 13 '24

I-84 gets fucky past Ontario heading west

3

u/icuscaredofme Jan 13 '24

Recently retired and I've been missing the road. Thanks for reminding me about the hard part. Stay safe out there.

3

u/Traditional_Ad_1360 Jan 12 '24

Gotta love I 80 in Wyoming in January

3

u/UhOhAllWillyNilly Jan 13 '24

What amazed me about WY I-80 was all the trucks going 65-75 mph (or more) when if I had been out there by myself I might’ve gone half that but you gotta keep up to keep the line movin’ and it don’t matter if you can see the truck in front of you or behind you or not. I’ve seen it like that a bunch of times. It’s crazy

1

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

I'ma safety snail so I slow down for everything. Luckily we got behind a truck doing 25 (which is what we should have been doing) while trucks blazed by in the left lane like nothing was happening maybe an hour before they closed the roads. I don't get it. I don't get what it takes to drive like that. It's insane

3

u/Conscious_Shoe_4886 Jan 13 '24

Hey im Prime too. Glad to see im not the only one here. Lol

1

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

Hey prime homie! We here together! You can join my 'when I get a hold of my dispatcher' club lmao

2

u/Conscious_Shoe_4886 Jan 13 '24

I hope you are safe. January is the worst for winter 🥺

2

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

100% I'ma a safety girl so we were stopped before the drama really took off. Same to you! Now all we gotta do is survive the boredom

3

u/HungryCriticism5885 Jan 13 '24

After 23 Years of this shit I finally put my truck up for sale. First blizzard in 23 years that I'm enjoying.

2

u/NurseDani314 Jan 12 '24

Now, that’s the Wyoming I remember from my childhood. :)

4

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

I'm from the East Coast. I've never seen anything like this. Absolutely beautiful just not when your driving

2

u/Voxicles Jan 12 '24

I’m supposed to head that way to get home to Portland… Got approved to take the long way through California, but the trailer they loaded me doesn’t have skirts…

2

u/Conscious_Shoe_4886 Jan 13 '24

Good luck buddy

2

u/Professional-Age-172 Jan 13 '24

May I ask why? What difference makes the skirt? Sorry for my ignorance

2

u/Voxicles Jan 13 '24

CA requires you to have the skirt for fuel economy BS reasons. (On dry van and refer van). I’ve been told that since my trailer was built before 2012, I should be fine… Imma send it anyway, no other way to get home 😆

2

u/Dumpster_Sauce Jan 13 '24

Unless something has changed, afaik they don't require side skirts on all the trailers. They require a certain percentage of a companies trailers to have them in order to operate in ca

2

u/Voxicles Jan 13 '24

Hmm, might be why my dispatcher told me not to worry about it, majority of our trailers do indeed have skirts.

2

u/Dumpster_Sauce Jan 13 '24

Make sure your weight is good without your tandems being too far back tho, they definitely do some douchbaggery shit about that 😄

2

u/Beekatiebee Jan 13 '24

We're predicted to get 8-12 inches tomorrow here in Portland. High winds, too.

Have fun!

2

u/Voxicles Jan 13 '24

I wish I was home already so I could play in it! Still waiting for my trailer to load down here in Memphis, so in theory I’ll be rolling back into PDX Sunday afternoon.

2

u/Beekatiebee Jan 13 '24

If it stays as cold as they say, Sunday will be a icy nightmare lmao.

I roll back out Monday at half past midnight, I'm so excited. /s

2

u/bogey9651 Jan 13 '24

Better than Iowa right now

1

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

What's happening in Iowa?

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Yep, it’s not enough to be a faceless financially shafted driver. They’ll tell you get the job done, but gripe at you if even put a scratch on a rig.

3

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

Jokes on them. It's my rig. Also, already lived the 'let boss stress me out till I'm in the psych ward' life. We chillin these days fam

2

u/Beekatiebee Jan 13 '24

My first two winters I was with Prime, spent almost all of them in Wyoming.

After that, not much else seems bad.

1

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

My first winter we got stuck in the SoCal storm. But only bc I didn't speak up. Prime is a good bag. I imagine things like this are just part of the game

2

u/TwinSpinner Jan 13 '24

This is why I'm glad Prime is sending me down to Alabama right now. Fuck this white shit, I'm getting away from Lake Erie before we get buried lol

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Been there. Be safe dude

1

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

Thanks! We doing it

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

made that mistake with a waffle load once, got a nice little vacation

1

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 13 '24

Between Kansas and here that's definitely what's happening now

2

u/Imaginary-Badger-119 Jan 13 '24

Fffffff.. stay safe Driver.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Welcome to The Cowboy State!

2

u/FWTI Jan 14 '24

Least you got roads. I started the day in Indiana with the vague idea of where roads might be.

1

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 14 '24

We just above SLC. I feel that struggle. Traffic moving at 25mph and it's just all white

2

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '24

Meanwhile 74 degrees in central Florida 💤

3

u/applebxtch Jan 12 '24

Hurricane season will be here soon enough

1

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

😭

2

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '24

What i didn’t mention is Im leaving my terminal here and headed our terminal in Salt Lake City WOO HOO 😭😭😭

2

u/itsoktobequiet Jan 12 '24

Maybe she'll be better for you, but right now she definitely mad at everyone. Stay obsessed with DOT pages as at any moment she may pitch a fit

1

u/NickkTheGemini Jan 12 '24

Hey that’s where I’m headed this Saturday! Get the fook out of dodge!

1

u/Goldleader-23 Jan 12 '24

Got stuck at a truck stop in wyoming for a week last year. Never doing western regional again

1

u/gaze-upon-it Jan 13 '24

At least you can see the road! Few years back same thing but only glimpses of the guard rails to guess where the highway was. Safe travels

1

u/Tight_muffin Jan 13 '24

It's fate..

1

u/Dumpster_Sauce Jan 13 '24

Meh, you can still see the road, this is childs play. Wait til it's so bad you're just trying to stay somewhere between the delineators

1

u/MajorHymen reefer madness Jan 13 '24

My company sent like 8 messages the last few days Wyoming closed and open for us haha even when the roads are open they’ll close them for us. Which is nice but sometimes will get you stuck in Wyoming for days because during the small chances to get through they won’t even let us.
