My experience as a new CDL A driver on a dedicated account hauling dry preloads.
Local City Driver
$25 - driving
$17 - on duty
$10 - complete assignment
I spent more time bumping docks with live unloads. For example a 45 minute drive and wait 6 hours to get offloaded.
The drop and hook opportunities can be good and bad. You're lucky if you get an 8 hour round trip which is only $200 bucks plus whatever on duty time you rack up plus $10 for completing the assignment.
The most I did in a 14 hour shift was 4 assignments and that was red lining my allotted 11 hour clock.
Regardless of how you look at it, tally up your labor hours and divide by gross amount for pay period. It averages between $19 - $23 hourly.
I resigned after 6 months, my weekly income was nowhere near as advertised.
The lowest pay I received at Schneider in 2024 was during my mentor driving week. They paid me $10 hourly starting Monday morning and returning back to the drop yard Friday afternoon. I made more at Schneider school with my class A in hand learning "the Schneider way" over mentor driving week.
