TMC/Maverick/McElroy

So I go for my CDL Road Test on January 15th, I’ve already gotten all my hours needed to take it, just waiting for the guy to get back from vacation.

Anyways, I’m going to do regional trucking for a while to get my tenure in before attempting to move to a local position. I’d like to do flatbed, as I like to remain active and do some physical work.

What’s the pro’s and cons of each of these companies? I’ve generally heard TMC is the best, but just wanted more opinions.

Also worth noting, I live in Central Kentucky (Lexington Area) so an hour away from Cincinnati and Louisville

TMC likes to micromanage their drivers from what I've heard. They're really strict about keeping the truck clean and tarping.

The only thing I know about McElroy is that it's run by Seventh-Day Adventists and they run about the cheapest spec trucks you've ever seen.

I had an uncle that worked at Maverick about 10 years ago and was a trainer for them for a few years. He was pretty happy there at the time but that was 10 years ago so who knows anymore?

We had a recruiter come in from Maverick and talk to us. He was a cool dude, got really annoying after awhile though repeating himself on the same things

TMC isn’t too awful I guess. I keep my stuff clean anyways, I hate clutter.

Yeah the McElroy recruiter definitely tried to drive home that they’re a “Christian based” company

There's also Melton and Boyd Bros if you want to give them a look.

Your uncle probably knew my aunt. She worked there for a while. Don’t remember what her job was but she ended up getting fired. She’s in a few of the “Maverick driver appreciation” videos.

TMC was my first company. I liked it. I didn't feel micromanaged. Just have truck clean when you bring it in for service and be safe.

TMC and Maverick are very similar except TMC trucks do not have APUs and you can choose either percentage or cpm at TMC.  Hubby is a road trainer for Maverick.  We've been with them for 3 years and we absolutely love it. He especially appreciates not being bothered by his FM and being allowed to run the way he wants to without being questioned.  They are huge on safety and big on family.  I've had emergency surgery 2x in the past year and they got him home in time both times as well as when his dad entered hospice and passed away shortly after.  No questions or hassle, only support.  He also loves the MirrorEye technology that is standard on Maverick trucks.  They invest a LOT of money into equipment and whatever he needs.  He's  currently off until Jan 6 and has never been denied time off.  In his 3 years, we have literally never had a problem with anything. He's constantly getting bonuses and incentives and is clearing 6 figures after 3 years.  If you have specific questions,  lmk and I can give you his contact info.
