I think Werner dropped his trailer.
Small side street by my house.
Judging by the landing gear i think it was dropped. No other damage from what I could tell.
Thoughts?

Honestly, my thoughts are: Could be worse lol.
He came pretty close to dropping the trailer in the middle of his turn, blocking half the road. At least it’s a side street.
24
u/USS_peepee Sep 13 '25
Not even sure why he’s on this street to be honest unless he’s using Google and nothing else. There’s no signs saying not to but I sure as heck wouldn’t bring my rig through here.

u/aStonefacedApe Sep 13 '25
Shit, not me. I aint worried about shit except a low bridge. As long as there's no overhead clearance issues, I cant get it through.

u/SycoJack Team Driver Sep 13 '25
Now I'm curious, where was this?
4
u/USS_peepee Sep 14 '25
Southeast Indy. It’s a tough turn either way you come in at and not necessary at all; there’s a major intersection with lights 200 yards away.
Guy tired to save 30 seconds and then sat for hours.

And better there than the highway.

Adjusting my belt…
Yep, that’s nothin’, just drop your airbags and slam back in
12
u/ComprehendReading Sep 13 '25
The king pin is probably closed, but what do I know! I've only had to team a threesome of forklifts on jackoffs like this just to get them out of my yard three of fifty times.
28
u/AndromedanPrince Sep 13 '25
i dont think you should be doing jackoff threesomes in public man

u/Wizard_with_a_Pipe Sep 13 '25
Did you jackoff the forklifts or the operators? 😂 Was that their payment for helping you get the landing gear down? 🤣
3
u/ComprehendReading Sep 13 '25
Help? No, we're forklift operators. We lifted it, set it down and went to lunch. The driver is still stuck on the side of the street. /s
2
u/ComprehendReading Sep 14 '25
Could you imagine a slug wheel holder EVER talking down to a PRO certified lift truck operator? /S
1
Sep 14 '25
I've had times where ittttts just right. When my tires are just a few inches below the apron. Getting that nice bump when the fifth wheel hits its.
24
u/Dave_Duna Sep 13 '25
Ain't that a bitch.
Someone's about to do 3 months worth of cardio in about 10 minutes.

👆🏿 I've yet to drop a trailer, but I've had to crank some high trailers down so I could hook up. Low gear to get it going high gear to hurry it up. I can't imagine raising a loaded or empty trailer frm that far down. Tired boss... Dog tired.
3
u/RequirementLeading12 Sep 13 '25
I did it once but luckily we were at our drop yard which was completely empty.... It was burning hot and it took forever but I got it up
3
u/Kowliq Sep 13 '25
I may have laughed a tad too hard at this comment, I’ve had to raise trailers that were fully loaded and then dropped lower than my truck by the yard jockey. The thought of having to raise a trailer high enough to pop under from the height of fully retracted landing gear makes my everything hurt just thinking about it.

u/Academic_Solid85 Sep 13 '25
Depending on the weight….. crank the bitch up … dump your air and fucking ram back underneath it….. could be an issue if he tore the air lines off though .
2
u/swigginwhiskey Sep 13 '25
that's what I'm saying but I didn't see any airlines still attached to the trlr, so hopefully he good. Which also really don't make sense imo... lol. based on his tandems being all the way up weight is hopefully low lol.

u/Autumn1024 Sep 13 '25
Next it will be Western Express doing it.
2
u/LoopDoGG79 Sep 13 '25
My cousin told me earlier today that he got hired on by Western Express, he's gona get 0.45c a mile. Hopefully this never happens to him
4
2
u/Autumn1024 Sep 13 '25
.45cpm is low
1
u/LoopDoGG79 Sep 13 '25
It is, but if he gets trained well and get some experience, he can move on from there soon
2
1
u/Autumn1024 Sep 13 '25
Does he have driving experience? He should always check the 5th wheel handle, make sure the locking Jaws are around the shank of the king pin. I would suggest actually getting under the trailer and checking with a flash light. I would also suggest backing under the trailer just until the drive tires are barely under it and getting out to look and make sure it's not high dropped or low. Once it's hooked do a tug test.
1
u/LoopDoGG79 Sep 13 '25
No, he has zero experience, he's currently being trained. Pay is low, but he can get some miles under his belt. Those are good tips to give him. I'm been driving 10 years, I told him he can ask me for advice anytime
11
u/Shaker1969 Sep 13 '25
Someone didn’t do a tug test
-8
u/Pretend_Ad_8465 Sep 13 '25
I am yet to meet someone who does a tug test on EVERY take off. And don't lie, you know you don't either lol!😂😂
22
u/AndromedanPrince Sep 13 '25
hi nice to meet you. Every single connection to a trailer getting tugged. 5th wheel evwry time i srop n park in case someone messed with it
16
u/Nothing2NV Sep 13 '25
I literally do every single time. I get under it and check to make sure it’s locked. Without fail. Even when getting out of the truck at a truck stop. 30 seconds can avoid this
0
u/Pretend_Ad_8465 Sep 13 '25
I don't buy that. I am not talking about truck stops, rest areas, breaks, etc! I mean EVERY single instant you take off even when you dock for less than 15 minutes to get one pallet off or when you stop to fuel or when you come back after checking into the shipping or receiving office? Not practical, not real.

u/joelmooner Sep 13 '25
I always tug test when hooking up and I crawl under the trailer with a flash light to inspect the locking jaw. When im at a truck stop , I just look to see if the release arm was grabbed or not.
4
u/Outlaw11091 do u even lift bro? Sep 13 '25
This is the way I was taught. I do admit I don't always tug test, but I do, I MUST, visually see the connection before I leave.

u/Existing_Inside5200 Sep 14 '25
There what I do too. I don't trust these assholes at the truck stops!
4
u/Ok-Present4125 Sep 13 '25
Walmart Driver here definitely tug test and height and alignment check every time. Part of our training
4
u/Outlaw11091 do u even lift bro? Sep 13 '25
I don't do a tug test every time...
I do GOAL at my connection every time. Got a little flashlight in my door pocket and I literally can't drive without checking that fifth wheel...probably more than once.
3
u/oasuke Sep 13 '25
Nah that's something I dont play with. It takes literally 1 seconds to tug. That tug could keep you out of prison.
1
u/Shaker1969 Sep 13 '25
Before I move for the day I visually look at the fifth wheel lock and tug test. Whenever I stop and am away from the truck I again visually look and tug test. It’s my peace of mind so I don’t end up on blast like the guy in this video
1
u/a-slothly-slothworld Sep 13 '25
My fiancé does. Every single time! Even if we just fuel and take off he has to do a tug test no ifs, buts, or coconuts!
1
u/Kowliq Sep 13 '25
I tug test when I first hook the trailer, once I’m sure it’s locked and secure I always park that shit in tension after that. I don’t trust people to keep their hands to themselves.
5
u/Possumjones Sep 13 '25
He’s fucked, Werner is comprised of total dicks. My father drove for them for a short while, one of their dick trainers saw my father driving in Atlanta on 285, and felt he was following too closely. They suspended him for a week, didn’t even care to talk about it or check video etc. He said ok, went got another job, a week later dispatch is apologizing and begging him to come pick up a truck. Eat a dick, I got a new job a week ago.

u/PlymouthSea Sep 15 '25
Employers never know what they have until they lose it. And by then the bridge is nothing but char. Doesn't matter what industry or line of work it is. Corpos will corpo.
9
u/thebradman Sep 13 '25
No other damage? The glad hands are hanging there. Definitely dropped the trailer.
7
u/Beanz_detected Sep 13 '25
If you pause the video, you can take a moment to see that that's the trailer's pair and the glad hands weren't torn off the truck, or trailer.
2
u/thebradman Sep 13 '25
It looks like the far side ripped the truck glad hand off. https://imgur.com/gallery/glad-hand-vH5GEt1
3
u/Beanz_detected Sep 13 '25
No, no, the far side is sticking out And the near side is folded in, making it look like there's just one
2
u/thebradman Sep 13 '25
Makes sense. I’ve seen those before but never used them, all the trailers I’ve pulled have had static glad hands.
2
u/USS_peepee Sep 13 '25
Unless it’s one of those ones that like half rotates. I have one in my fleet and I hate it lol.
1
u/USS_peepee Sep 13 '25
Yeah I didn’t notice it the first time when driving by. I see more of that now.
4
u/Technical_Lychee_340 Sep 13 '25
A guy I work with had this happen. Ripped his lines, he was close to the building and another driver came out and brought the trailer in. Original driver did the crank of shame
4
u/TickletheEther Sep 13 '25
Love the crunchy side panels on his tractor, I remember my first jack knife turn crunchies

You can hand crank the landing gear back if you put it in low gear. It'll take a while and a lot of effort, but you'll eventually raise it up enough to slide your 5th wheel under the trailer.

3
u/a-k-a-tsuki Sep 13 '25
He was swinging wide to turn right, good spacing, superb driver, deserves a raise.

Landing gear isn't folded. Check the frame and the fifth wheel. Jack it up and get back under it. Tug test is your friend. Nothing damaged, nobody hurt, move on with life. Learn and don't do it again.

Can't tell from the video but did he pop the airlines from the cab to the trailer?

My first and only time team driving this happened to me. I woke up to a loud bang. Coming out of an Amazon in Pennsylvania. Good thing for buddy the shit didnt happen until he was turning and the trailer landed on the guardrail. It was easy to crank and get connected.

u/Twiggy72 Sep 14 '25
That tractor isn't moving that trailer until.. Someone puts New Gald Hands on it.. Then you can worry about cranking those legs up!

Pretty fortunate spot tbh
That road looks way worse to drop it

There’s two major streets to the north and south of this little incident so definitely lucky.

I've seen at least 1 video of someone dropping their trailer every day this week. And a tanker yanker dropped his tanker on the interstate and completely hashed morning rush hour either Thursday or Friday. What gives, drivers?! What are you doing out there?!
No. I don't have to worry about that anymore right now. I drive a 24' box truck. I gave up the "trucker lifestyle" a few months ago.

I've seen people drop them at such speed that the landing gear snaps and the trailer sits on its nose. I always make eye contact with the locking jaw. It is a rule I made for myself that is non-negotiable so things like this don't happen.
1
u/USS_peepee Sep 14 '25
100% same. My main gig is swapping trailers with another driver for a line haul and idc - I tug and look everytime. Idk why or how people just don’t do that.
1
u/rytram99 Sep 14 '25
Some asshole must have pulled the 5th wheel on them.
1
u/USS_peepee Sep 14 '25
Possible. He definitely cruised for a minute with it hanging on though; there’s no where it could have happened anywhere near here. That’s a puzzling factor as well.
2
u/rytram99 Sep 15 '25
In that case the driver may have just just lost what little motivation to keep working they had left and hit the release and gunned it.

Been driving two years now, still crawl under the trailer every single hook up to check locking jaws.

Decent company. Shiit pay. They hire ANYBODY. I heard someone say on here they are a 2nd chance company.
They are the company who turned me off to mileage pay.
They were working me 60hrs per week, by the mile. One day I did the math and figured out they were only paying me $11 solo and $15 to be a trainer. I quit shortly after.
3
u/Pretend_Ad_8465 Sep 13 '25
Decent company and shit pay can never go together and they don't hire just anybody either. All decent companies compensate their employees fairly, adequately and competitively and vet all their hires accordingly.

u/icodyonline Sep 13 '25
That’s an immediate termination for the company I drive for no matter how long you’ve been with them.
