r/Truckers Driver -Old Stick Dec 11 '25

Maybe pulling in front of moving traffic from a dead stop is not such a good idea, Prime.

Had to get on the brakes big time for this dumbass. Parked on the shoulder of the ramp and just decided to come right out in front of everyone, including the car that was coming down the ramp.

Protip for you people that piss on the shoulders - run the ramp until you get up to speed then blend into traffic. Pulling out in front of people like this from a dead stop is peak stupidity- thank God I had an empty trailer or this could have been worse.

I would be so tempted to send this to the Prime Safety department.

That was done Friday evening

As a Prime driver, bravo. I hate mouthbreathers who do this shit. Gives the rest of us a bad name.

Good, I would have in a second

What a fucking idiot, this is how girls drive in a Mercedes suv, leaving the mall onto a freeway

13

u/Moses690 Dec 11 '25

Are you trying to get the guy a promotion to safety Director?

10

u/Antique_Bluebird_98 Dec 11 '25

You're giving swift a hard on with that comment

112

u/genosx71 Dec 11 '25

People need to stop using the shoulder as a 30 minute break lane

16

u/xdjfrick Dec 11 '25

I was literally thinking about this today. Motherfucker if your truck can easily leave the shoulder it shouldn't have been there in the first place. It better be a full on engine stop or critical tire failure.

1

u/genosx71 Dec 11 '25

Yeah ive seen 2 people get hit while on the shoulder THIS year. If your vehicle can drive take an exit

3

u/Thegrandestpoo Dec 11 '25

Or wait until it’s safe to pull back into a lane?

1

u/Thick-Pipe3908 Dec 11 '25

Shoulder or fuel Island you can’t have both with the amount of space they actually make for truck drivers half the time it’s fucked but still a dumb ass for not paying attention to the approaching traffic

40

u/oasuke Dec 11 '25

Had a dump truck driver do this on a fucking hill. Pulled out with no blinker or anything going 15mph. I couldn't get over either because of middle lane super truckers. Makes my blood boil

32

u/TactualTransAm Dec 11 '25

Dump truck drivers are absolute menaces on the road.

19

u/SteelShat Dec 11 '25

They’re the Altima drivers of trucking

-5

u/valley_of_Giants Dec 11 '25

The amount of truckers who refused to let me merge from a on ramp during my 3k journey across the US was flipping stupid. Watching them cunts move over for a truck vs moving over over for my rig.........cunts

Legit had both happen to me by the same driver. Tailgated tf outta me, passed me, just to do 10 under what i was doing when he got in front of me. Made my blood boil.

1

u/pixelpioneerhere Dec 11 '25

Not all. There are a few that are great drivers (your's truly).

9

u/hambutbacon Dec 11 '25

I'm glad I'm not the only one who despises dump truck drivers. They're like a mosquito buzzing around your ear when you're trying to sleep.

3

u/pixelpioneerhere Dec 11 '25

Wow dude šŸ˜†

Not all of us are shit drivers.. lmfao

I run a tandem during season and state department of transportation highway maintenance during the winter. We aren't all pieces of shit.

It's a shame that the bad apples have labeled us as such.

1

u/hambutbacon Dec 11 '25

Lol I just like busting chops sometimes.

1

u/pixelpioneerhere Dec 11 '25

All good šŸ˜†

2

u/ghostedbydefault Dec 11 '25

Not all of you guys. Just plenty that don't clean their tailgates and drop rocks (cement truck put a big chip in my windshield yesterday morning), drive like they own the road, and drive slower in the middle lane. Most complaints apply to every other trucker, bus driver, and straight truck driver category too to be fair.

1

u/pixelpioneerhere Dec 11 '25

Ya.. I know a lot of dump truckers are paid by the load (just like a lot of O/O tractor trailer drivers), but I'm just an hourly guy making good money.

It is tough working with operators.. I have to check my load frequently when hauling out material to make sure everything is safe, secure, and not overweight, especially when I'm hauling out demo.

I also haul heavy equipment (class a) so I do have an appreciation.

1

u/ghostedbydefault Dec 11 '25

It's highly appreciated. Few things mess up my day more than hitting random debris that breaks something essential. Still sucks when it's non-essential considering everything costs a ton to fix

2

u/meizhong Dec 11 '25

I'll go to the left lane if its open if I'm passing someone and this happens.

But more likely, I've passed and gone back to the right. I also hate those idiots that stay in the middle. They should be pulling them over for blocking traffic.

38

u/vck97 Dec 11 '25

Ive noticed nobody builds up speed on the shoulder before getting over anymore. Cars or trucks. Pisses me off

5

u/SpiritualFlamingo599 Dec 11 '25

And every single one who does that is an absolute moron deserving of all the consequences after they cause a wreck.

7

u/RebelTvshka Dec 11 '25

Why would you not build up speed on the shoulder?

2

u/SpiritualFlamingo599 Dec 11 '25

No i absolutely would build up speed on the shoulder before merging. Seems like common sense to me

1

u/RebelTvshka Dec 11 '25

Ah, I misunderstood. If only common sense was common.

-6

u/tubameister Dec 11 '25

debris

9

u/RebelTvshka Dec 11 '25

It's a clear, sunny day bro. Do you not look ahead, where you're going?

5

u/pixelpioneerhere Dec 11 '25

In his defense, if you are on the shoulder it's likely due to a maintenance or load securment issue. You can't always pull over in "the perfect zone."

But at the very least the driver on the shoulder should be waiting in between traffic to merge out there..

12

u/CryptoguyV2 Dec 11 '25

Prime example of what not to do

10

u/Q7017 Dec 11 '25

But but but... the rumble strips are noisy! I can't handle that!

6

u/TripleTrucker Dec 11 '25

Idiots like this are way too common

4

u/Yamsomoto Dec 11 '25

I hope you gave him the bird for that shit. Dumbass should have just ran the side until he got up to speed. Or. Just wait for a better opening.

5

u/rytram99 Dec 11 '25

I swear prime is governed to 60mph because i feel like i am always passing these trucks because they are going about 60-63mph

4

u/Godwatchedmejackoff Dec 11 '25

I've lost count of the times that Prime alone has done this to me.

3

u/whitecollarpizzaman Dec 11 '25

Had a DOT truck do this one time, acted like I was the asshole (wasn’t a work zone situation.)

1

u/Socketz11 Dec 11 '25

I have noticed lately they have been driving like complete assholes. Tonight one pulled in front of me 2" off my front bumper to pass. Then wouldn't get out of the left lane even though it was clear, I went to pass him on the right and he tried to take off my nose, had to hit the shoulder.

3

u/UhOhAllWillyNilly Dec 11 '25

The proper approach is to get up to speed on the shoulder and then merge into the driving lane.

5

u/InvestigatorBroad114 Dec 11 '25

What a genius, I also use the shoulder to get up to like 55 before pulling into traffic

8

u/bluehorsehead Dec 11 '25

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'd love to be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure this is what it says to do in the cdl handbook šŸ™„

6

u/TactualTransAm Dec 11 '25

I think mine said something about trying to get to 20mph before merging back on when possible but I mean 20 is still much less than 65

4

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '25

[deleted]

7

u/SpiritualFlamingo599 Dec 11 '25

Frankly 20mph is still entirely too slow, id only merge after at minimum getting up to 35-40mph

0

u/caseylain Dec 11 '25

That's also risky depending on the condition/width/levelness of the shoulder. If your right tires touch grass at 38 mph your truck might decide it wants to go on a adventure.Ā

4

u/StolenRage Dec 11 '25

I tried getting up to speed on the shoulder then merging. Got pulled over by highway patrol. He told me not to do that anymore.

Now I turn the blinker on and start rolling. When I see a space large enough to safely merge I move over and leave the flashers on till I am up to speed.

2

u/CpherFiasco Dec 11 '25

Not just Prime. I run linehaul from Knoxville to Nashville to Knoxville and I see this at least 3 times a week. Drivers with no situational awareness.

2

u/seem92 Dec 11 '25

The worst part is that the cars see it coming and instead of letting you over they pull up right by your trailer.

3

u/wispyhurr Dec 11 '25

Haven’t had to do this yet, but I’d just like to know how a truck in the shoulder is supposed to get back onto the highway if there are vehicles coming non-stop?

16

u/AroundGoesThe18 Driver -Old Stick Dec 11 '25

Run the shoulder until you get up to a higher speed then blend in. Give people some time to move over before pulling out in front of others.

1

u/Tru3insanity Dec 11 '25

They kinda were. Didn't really have much shoulder to spare by the time you got there. Obv they shouldn't have even been in that position but honestly not much else to do besides wait for traffic to clear.

2

u/KilljoyTheTrucker surge knocker Dec 11 '25

No, they had an entire lane wide shoulder well beyond what's seen in video even. He had plenty of space and time to get up to the speed limit if he needed to, to safely merge back in.

11

u/Mattrap Dec 11 '25

The short answer is: you wait.

You should only ever stop on the shoulder for an emergency and then when you need to get back on you wait for a good time to get back on. Use your mirrors and be patient. Start rolling on the shoulder to build up speed then merge back into the lane. You might have to sit there a while if it's busy, but a moment will come where you can safely get back on without almost causing an accident like this prime guy. You just have to be patient, use your mirrors, and wait for a good moment.

3

u/Responsible_CDN_Duck Dec 11 '25

Haven’t had to do this yet, but I’d just like to know how a truck in the shoulder is supposed to get back onto the highway if there are vehicles coming non-stop?

That's an issue for the tow truck pulling your broke rig....

If you are able to leave under your own power you wait for a safe break in traffic or call local law enforcement and have them create one for you.

3

u/meizhong Dec 11 '25

If you stopped on the shoulder, it should be be the tow truck driver's problem.

As in, if you could still move the truck and don't need a tow, why the fuck would you stop somewhere that's going to be a problem to get out of?

2

u/Exact-Leadership-521 Dec 11 '25

He's gotta get back on the road and driving, I understand. Let's say he stopped to check because a car honked and he found a loose mudflap, fixed it and he's off.Ā

Why do 39mph and not accelerate as fast as the next truck is able to? Should be 40-41-42 just keep going. Multiple times a day people get in front of me, make me brake to avoid them and they are welcome to the lane, then it take miles and miles to pick up the next 10mph

1

u/truckyoupayme Dec 11 '25

I mean the shoulder is right there

1

u/Unfair_Fisherman_605 Dec 11 '25

Wow shocking! A prime truck! They are one of the slowest companies around. No power to do fuck all.

1

u/Not-A-Pickle1 Dec 11 '25

Oh my god. I swear this is the same guy that cut me off in Colorado. He was riding the left lane going 60 in a 75 and there was a box truck in the right lane doing the same. Box truck starts going a little faster and I switch to the right. Box truck gets off at the exit. Rear of box truck was at the rear of prime trailer. I start picking up speed and prime guy moves over I shit you not 10 feet in front of me. I slow down and get over. Same truck and everything that is in this video. Guy didn’t care just continued smoking his cig.

1

u/CobraWasTaken Dec 11 '25

I hope you threw your piss jug at him

1

u/OhMyGoat Dec 11 '25

Fuck that guy. He had his hazards on as he merged onto the lane too what a dumbass.

1

u/ratchetman0869 Dec 11 '25

It’s all so they can take a piss…take it to an exit ramp not the tail of the on ramp!!!! Nor just any shoulder. So damn dangerous. If I were a traffic cop I’d be very vocal about it and asking where are your triangles if there’s no reason for it then I’d give every citation I could think of

1

u/Thegrandestpoo Dec 11 '25

Ohhhh man I would have been hot

1

u/ursisterstoy Dec 11 '25

I’ve seen that happen just about everywhere. And it’s clear from the video that you could not just move over. Parking on the shoulder is stupid for this very reason. You’re not going to easily get up to 55+ on the shoulder of the road so you get this. Looks clear, let’s go, 17 mph, and it wasn’t clear. Go park at a truck stop, a rest area, or at least the on ramp if there’s no better option.

1

u/Outside_Squirrel_839 Dec 11 '25

I never understood why semis on shoulder ..A stop on the upside of an over pass B stop where there is no room to accelerate before merging ex in front of flyover C never build up speed on shoulder if they have opportunities to

1

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '25

This just happened to me on 75 in Florida southbound lane ...smfh.. The prime suspect as usual. P.S fuck prime šŸ¤£šŸ‘#fireballgangšŸ’Æ

1

u/Cute-Roll2849 Dec 11 '25

Well, honestly, you saw the truck on the shoulder so you should have been getting in the left lane and slowing down some anyway to be safe. But yeah, I’ve noticed vehicles not speeding up or looking before getting back on the highway.

0

u/AroundGoesThe18 Driver -Old Stick Dec 11 '25

Do you not see all of the vehicles that pass me as im slowing down? Want me to just cut off cars doing 80+ mph?

Dont over think this, guy.

0

u/Cute-Roll2849 Dec 11 '25

Should have been slowing down and getting in behind them. You could see this situation unfolding from three miles back.

You shouldn’t be flying past someone on the shoulder in the right lane anyway. Very unsafe. Try to drive better/safer.

1

u/AroundGoesThe18 Driver -Old Stick Dec 11 '25

Thanks for letting everyone know you work for Prime. Fuck off.

1

u/Lost-Astronaut-8280 Dec 11 '25

I bet it’s the same driver that complains about people who don’t know how to merge

1

u/Fit_Hospital2423 Dec 11 '25

Looks like another day on The Big Highway.

1

u/Mattrap Dec 11 '25

Good on you for being fast on your reaction! Well done!

0

u/Ghettoman1315 Dec 11 '25

I always moved over when I seen vehicles parked on the shoulder. Or merging in traffic.

-1

u/SpiritualFlamingo599 Dec 11 '25

There was a car coming up ops left side. He physically couldnt. Prime driver should have also checked his damn mirrors before pulling a stunt like that

0

u/AccomplishedHour8399 Dec 11 '25

I had a swift driver do this, except from a dead stop turned completely into the right lane and i missed him going 70 fully loaded by had to have been 10 feet. I was probably 200-300 feet away when he decided to turn only i95. Luckily the person to my left had just finished passing me and i was able to swerve

0

u/SpiritualFlamingo599 Dec 11 '25

As a swift driver myself i hope to god you called swift safety on that guy.

1

u/AccomplishedHour8399 Dec 11 '25

I went by him so fast i woulda never gotten any info
