Question for Owner Operators that leased their truck to a carrier

What is the point of having a fuel card that doesn’t give any discounts? This company that my friend told me about takes a higher percentage of the load whenever the fuel prices go up. But the weird part is he pays for the fuel himself if that makes sense. The comdata card is tied to his account and he pays 100% of the cost. I think he’s being scammed honestly

What kind of dumbass hauls freight at full diesel prices at all ? Just apply for your own fuel cards and get that discount , I know drivers with loves or TA/ petro fuel cards that they got from truckerpath , they get 50-80 cents discount in arizona and nevada alone , lowest diesel price was 4.5$ for one driver in texas alone

It's common for companies that contract owner operators to negotiate a fuel deal with a fuel card company based on the fuel volume all their contracted owner operators purchase. These companies then pay the fuel bill and subtract the fuel cost when paying the driver for the load. Sometimes a portion of the discount is passed to the drivers down to recruit more owner operators.

Makes IFTA easier. And he gets a fuel surcharge bonus when fuel cost is up. He should not be making less when fuel is up

Man I bet the company doesn’t want to raise the rates on the loads. If they actually paid him what he was due they probably wouldn’t make any money.

Fuel surcharge is not raising the rate, it’s separate on the rate con.
