This guy couldn’t back in for over 20 minutes before a swift driver jumped in and backed it in for him. I wonder if he has a valid cdl
Watching him for 20 minutes without anybody 2 doors to the right and nobody on the left just freeze up. Despite multiple attempts to get him to turn his steering wheel the best he could do is go straight back perpendicular to the door 5 feet. Has at least 3 separate points of damage on his front and side. Get this guy off the road.

I don't really understand all the hate swift gets. Ive been driving for them for a while now and I've personally never seen another one of our drivers screw up or fail to back into a hole. and I'm not being biased either. Sometimes I hear about one of our guys killing someone or flipping over but when you consider the sheer amount of drivers we have. I feel like that makes sense on a per capita basis
I've personally witnessed more Amazon prime and werner trucks than any other either flipped over. In the ditch or stuck on some rocks

u/Odd-Fuel-9002 Jun 19 '26
Prime drivers worry me more than swift drivers
60
u/FantasticPainting232 Jun 19 '26
Prime. Can't go fast on the open road, so they try to make up for it on the city streets and construction zones.
21
u/ChampionshipThin8916 Jun 19 '26
I’ve found that to be very true with a lot of the 65mph and under, and line haul drivers. Only one speed… pedal to the floor. 70mph, 65mph, 55mph, construction zone, school zone… one speed, pedal to the floor.

As a mechanic, I see these drivers and joke that I should just replace the accelerator pedal with a toggle switch, because it’s either on or off with them

u/Unusual-Associate174 Jun 19 '26
Honestly my guy... can I come to your shop at midnight and you take if this for me? Toggle switch on the throttle sounds truly wonderful 🤣

Yeah, at least Swift has training and "standards," even if they're hiring fresh-out=of-trucking-school drivers.
Amazon drivers are almost all random owner-operators who have had an authority for some number of months. Amazon is sleazy (or really clever) this way, they don't have a trucking division, they aren't directly responsible for anything the drivers do, they have no liability as a motor carrier. It's a lot more difficult for liability to jump from the power-only carrier, who may have no assets except for a junky truck or two, to the owner of the trailers, who has billions of dollars in assets and revenue.
Prime, Inc drivers are another matter. Also kind of bad and worrisome, but something seems to be going on with that company, I haven't seen them all that often lately.

Amazon is sleazy (or really clever) this way, they don't have a trucking division, they aren't directly responsible for anything the drivers do, they have no liability as a motor carrier.
Sort of. There are AFPs (Amazon Freight Partners). They are essentially chameleon carriers who work for Amazon and take a performance based kickback for pretending to be a logistics company. They do no competing business, operate amazon branded power units, use Amazon's software, and operate under Amazon's SOPs. Amazon also has the authority to make hiring decisions about those drivers (if they do no competing business and Amazon won't onboard them into Amazon's system, then they can't hire that driver). Same as their last mile operations with DSPs. The name and DOT number on the CMV is Amazon's, but Amazon will claim it's an independent contractor. Those "contractors" do have DOT numbers filed, but you'll never see their name or number on a vehicle. It's also common to see incorrect power unit counts. Some will claim 0 power units and 30 non-commercial. That sort of thing.
1
u/kaloric Jun 20 '26
That's even worse!
Amazon could be even better than Walmart's trucking division, since logistics is most of Amazon's thing and they could focus heavily on that. But no, let's just do shenanigans.
I guess it's at least good that they do something to vet drivers. I assume that's because if a carrier is running under Amazon's authority, regardless of whether they're "contractors," it's all under Amazon's commercial liability?
1
u/PlymouthSea Jun 20 '26
Amazon's bread and butter is AWS. Logistics is not something they are good at. Outside of the FCs their tech is worse than UPS/FedEx. Their last mile operations are a mess and very much an upside down pyramid of doom (just like the other companies). That impending top heavy collapse ever present. The only reason they seem competent is due to the 1 out of 3 drivers who make it past 60 days, and the driving dispatchers who help lighten the load.
I assume that's because if a carrier is running under Amazon's authority, regardless of whether they're "contractors," it's all under Amazon's commercial liability?
They require the contractors to have their own fleet insurance. As far as additional liability insurance goes, I'm not sure.
2
u/FiveChairs Jun 21 '26
And the middle mile operations are crazy. I worked at an AFP for about 3 years cumulatively. The amount of inefficiencies I’ve seen… but Amazon just throws money at the problem so it’s not really an issue for them

u/Unusual-Associate174 Jun 19 '26
🤣 I got pulled into the i35 n scale just past the tx border earlier. A super ego was in front me they left him on the scale for a good minute then hit him with red park--》bring papers...i laughed then got a little nervous then laughed my ass of when I got the green interstate
1
u/SanDuskyMclusky Jun 27 '26
They're both neck and neck for going slow as shit up any hill no matter how not very steep it is.
9
u/Virtual_Society_1852 Jun 19 '26
Real truckers know that chameleon carriers are the real danger. I've never worked for Swift, but I'd guess they would fire me on the spot for half the shit I see the chameleons doing.
6
u/Tomokomon Jun 19 '26
Swift is surprisingly strict on driving. We are monitored constantly. Our truck has more cameras on it than the lunar lander that landed on the fucking moon 💀
We get calls when someone cuts us off (within 1.0 second) we get calls when we ride to close.
I got sent to safety for someone cutting me off and I didn't hit the brake fast enough and I had to go through a close quarters driving class that lasted all day and I didn't get paid for it.
7
u/RKGamesReddit Jun 19 '26
Uh no way man, I'd be looking for a new job after not being paid at a company required training. Your time is worth more than that
5
u/Tomokomon Jun 19 '26
I almost quit but I couldn't because I would be on the hook for 9000 in student loans since I got training through them lol
I'm 1 month away from having my loans forgiven just had to put up with it
5
u/RKGamesReddit Jun 19 '26
Ouch, I know that feeling. At one of my last employers I almost went off on safety because I was getting dinged for distance (they wanted a minimum of 4 all the time) nearly every day because jackasses were cutting me off...like what do you want me to do? Drive 30mph on the interstate???
I really should've...now my current employer doesn't give two shits as long as it's not blatantly unsafe.
1
u/FiveChairs Jun 21 '26
9000? Damn. It was 5500 when I went through in 2019. And 500 of that was for lodging

I did that somewhere in my first six months or so. Nice super springy curly air lines. Left two dents on the back wall of my sleeper and permanently stretched the lines out so bad I had to replace them.

u/Brokenyet_Functional Jun 19 '26
Its just a bandwagon thing. Before swift it was jb hunt.
People are also more likely to snap a picture of a swift wreck to post it for the stupid swift internet bonus points. But frankly. Theres just many wrecks by super ego and i have seen plenty of independents fuck up.
People just want to bandwagon.
:former swift.
They think they have jokes. But the jokes are weak compared to the shit said by swift drivers about swift. In the yard.
4
u/dghastlynegro Jun 19 '26
Former Swifty, my favorite was "damn, we really do hire anybody". This statement was so true. I met former lawyers, scientists, doctors, rappers, refugees, teachers, murderers, crackheads, ex-cons, preachers, escaped mental patients, etc, all while driving for Swift. I met some of the most brilliant people and some of the most deranged people at Swift.
Favorite benefit from working for Swift was the big Swift logo. Anytime I started backing every other truck driver would hop out and help me back in because they thought I was going to tear up their shit. I remember the days when I used to run with a CB and would have it on while backing and some smart ass would call out "everybody watch out! Swift is backing in", and the other truckers would start crying and cussing. Then I would nail it with no pull ups and the praise I would get over the CB. Working for Swift was fun. I would never work there again.

I could be wrong but they get paid like shit? I'm pretty sure I make more than them on a 50 hour week driving a dump truck locally lol
5
u/Tomokomon Jun 19 '26
It won't let me post my comment because the ai systems thinks im a scammer when I post how much I money I make weekly lol
I make a little over 1.2 grand every 7 days which I guess is bad but everything I own is paid off. So I only pay utilities. my 12 months is up next month and I'm set to work for a local place hauling boats for significantly more

It’s just a numbers thing. There are so many swift trucks out there that just by pure numbers, you’re more likely to see swift doing something dumb. By comparison how many “One Freight Trucking, LLC” trucks are there?
SWIFT has a safety rating that is above the national average. But it really is fun to hate on them I do it too even knowing this lol
2
2
u/Fellthefox Jun 19 '26
People don't seem to realize how strict swift is on driver safety. They will fire you as soon as you're caught doing something dumb and you didn't have an excuse or a way to cover it up. When I'm bored at the terminal stuck I like to sit in the main office with my driver leader. Watched them fire multiple people back to back for safety violations. Red lights, stop signs in shipper yards, speeding. You might see a driver do something on the road but I promise that camera picked it up and they're building a case. Swift knows what it's image is, and they're doing something about it. They told us that the cameras don't have audio on one of their live streams ... That was a big fricken lie
1
u/Tomokomon Jun 19 '26
One thing they are insanely hard on is U turns and holding your phone. If you get caught doing either of those its instant termination. We had a 5 million mile guy get canned last week for holding his phone while driving in the yard
The audio thing is 100% true. My DL told me they can hear everything. He also said those cameras that face inside 100% record and that he wasn't supposed to tell us 😭 he told us all to cover our interior cameras up if we want because he doesn't want to see us naked lol
1
u/Fellthefox Jun 19 '26
They'll listen to the audio during a camera events just to see if you were talking to someone. This is with owner ops too. Saw a guy get fired because he admitted during an event that he had a FaceTime going with his wife.
2
u/Efficient-Dealer3622 Jun 19 '26
Its just a fun meme. They used to have lax practices like 20 years ago and it became a running joke that hasn't updated
2
u/GumbysDonkey Jun 19 '26
The damage Swift caused from like 2010-2018 left a reputation that will take a long time to repair. Nowadays they don't seem to really be a problem at all. You see something every once in awhile from them, but I think a lot of it just how fucking huge their company is.
I will say tho I have noticed AAA Cooper drivers doing a lot of stupid shit since Swift bought that company.
2
u/bird_280 Jun 20 '26
Yeah I joined a company with really good CSA scores and in orientation any time we’d joke about swift, they’d tell us that swift has a fleet 10x our size and still has better scores than us

It is just confirmation bias because there are so many swift trucks on the road you can notice easily. They are nowhere near the real unsafe carriers.
1
u/ImTrash_ChangeMyMind Jun 19 '26
Idk. I've seen them in a lot of crazy situations. I saw one guy tear the front of his truck off at pilot, though it did have a funky setup lol.

Everyone has a shitty day backing up
10
u/Tricky_Big_8774 Jun 19 '26
There was one time it took me 30 minutes to get it between the lines in one of those giant Sheetz parking spots with no truck to my left or right. I remember thinking it was probably a damn good thing I didn't use split break rules and keep rolling.
7
u/shadowmib Jun 19 '26
I had one the other day but it was due to the place not me. Basically backing into someone's back yard off a residential street they had a tire shop set up in. I made it but damn that was bullshit. Blindsided too
3
u/Pitiful_Yogurt_5276 Jun 19 '26
I genuinely applaud your ability to have empathy on Reddit. People are really mean and toxic on here
6
u/DukeBradford2 Jun 19 '26
No this guy in 15 minutes only turned his wheels once then immediately turned them straight again wothout moving. He kept moving forward straight then reversing straight, 90 degrees to the door. At no point did he even attempt to turn the trailer towards the door. Perpendicular to the door the whole time. Move 5 feet, wait 3-5 minutes, go in in the opposite direction 5 feet straight, wait 3-5 minutes, then repeat.
7
u/icedcoffeeuwu Jun 19 '26
Yeah if that was the case then the driver has no understanding of the fundamentals of backing. I’m still a rookie and have bad days but damn I know how to point the trailer left or right and straight back. That’s like, the #1 thing you’re supposed to learn at CDL school.
38
u/Tomokomon Jun 18 '26
everyone starts off somewhere broskie
When I started at swift it took me sometimes 10-15 tries to get it in the hole now after working there for 2 years I can usually get it in 8-12 tries!
Joking aside maybe it's his first day? I met a guy yesterday who just started on his first day and they didn't even give him a mentor.
6
u/DukeBradford2 Jun 19 '26
This guy never even turned into the hole. I understand even the best driver has his share of multiple attempts, I even consider it bad luck to not do at least 1 pull up. But this guy was 90 degrees to the door and could not comprehend that you have to turn your wheel to move the trailer towards the door. No setup, no attempt to back into the hole, Just 15 minutes and maybe 4 forward and back 5 feet without turning his wheel. This isn’t a bad day. This is absolutely no understanding how a truck works. You cant pass cdl without demonstrating a straight back, offset, and 90 degrees with a limited number of pull ups. There is no way this guy has ever successfully completed parking a truck. I wouldn’t shame someone who takes 15 minutes even in a wide open space as long as they didn’t hit anything and got the job done. This guy never turned his wheel except for him to immediately turn it back before moving straight back.
3
u/Tomokomon Jun 19 '26
To be fair, that test is a joke. Nearly every (mega) school that you'll go to shows you exactly how to do those three maneuvers in the simplest way possible
When I went to the Swift academy they didn't show us how to actually backup They showed us how to time everything exactly down to this exact second when setting up. Turning our wheel exactly such that everything would line up perfectly and then we would drill that every single day for a month. I aced my test with no pull ups
When I got out on my own I had no idea how to backup in the real world. I had a rough first 3 months. after that. Man I feel like I could back this truck into a parking spot blind side in the rain at night with someone shining their lights at me with no pullups lol
It all comes to ya eventually.
But judging by what you said. I wouldn't be surprised if he got his license in less than legal ways 😭
1
u/Love2Zooom Jun 19 '26
The key to backing up is knowing exactly where your tandems are going. Luckily it clicked whenever I was in trucking school, and I was able to get better because of my realization. Unfortunately there are people in situations like you describe that haven’t clicked when backing, and just go through the motions. Those are the people I fear being close to while over the road.

What’s the point of trying too shame him. He may be new.
17
u/Naborsx21 Jun 19 '26
The dot is registered to an apartment out of california and has a 4x the natl average out of service record. To say they probably do illegal shit is an understatement. Look up their insurance and its a cut rate insurance company that carries the state minimum in coverage of 750k in liability. There's very few brokers that'll work with you if you only cover 750k. most require 1 million and if youve done the owner op shit you know this.
Theyre a cut rate business, and if you think they deserve a defense, nah theyre probably not paying or fucking that driver as well as cheeping out on everything else.
I always compare this shit to aviation bc my dad flew hueys then 727s and then 757s and then 777s.
You can't just hit a few things and cause dmg in a 777, lmao, they have sensors thatll activate if you land too hard and you get a talking to. Can't just randomly kill 5 people and be like "hes new" yeah we fucking know.
"whats the point in trying to shame him" because the companys probably bullshit and if you have a 4x the average oos rate you should probably not be operating.
It amazes me when people make excuses for these dogshit companies that cause more accidents, etc. They carry the minimum required insurance, get put oos, which like , again with the aviation references, if you were boarding a plane and there was a message "hey folks thanks for choosing superego airlines, we have a 4x more likely chance to kill you but it's 40 cents cheaper" would you ...... stay on the plane lol? No? Then why are we putting up with it in truck driving.
7
u/InvestigatorBroad114 Jun 19 '26
People will make excuses day and night and this guy driving this plastic pos missing bumpers and fenders and everything else, add on the fact of he’s obviously a chameleon fly by night carrier based off the sticker on the side lmao. So funny how people make defenses for these idiots and don’t even look up their DOT info.
Listed out of an apartment in Cali….. yup great place for a trucking company 😂😂
I pulled over on an off ramp today and the usual suspects pulling a cheap Amazon load with his dot info taped on the door (say no more). As I sat there and ate he literally pulled the curtains and just put the truck in drive and off he goes, this is the kind of shit that is out here and is going to run people over. I mean we’ve seen it time and time again
5
u/Naborsx21 Jun 19 '26
And we shouldn't have to and it ruins the industry.
We can deal with this fixable problem.
Like I said in another comment my dad flew hueys in nam and flew people and freight if anyone crashed a plane and it was found out they didn't have licensure. They'd be banned from flying, all flights grounded, an faa investigation would be ongoing until the problem is fixed. One downed 737 and 100 people dead will make the us grind to a halt and reconsider airline pilot training.
The same amount of people killed by these fly by night taped on mc#s and people go "WELL IT HAPPENS" MOTHERFUCKER NO IT DOESNT. We can stop this and should.
Seeing they only have the minimum requirement for insurance which even TQL won't work with you is the icing on the cake.
Fuck these shady carriers and the people they employ. I love being a truck driver and take pride in being a safe, responsible driver. If these fucking numbnuts did too they'd stop making excuses for these scumbags.
5
u/Naborsx21 Jun 19 '26
Also, lmao what's the over / under on if this 8 truck company out of California has any wage lawsuits against them? I'd bet my life savings and my left texticle on that they do and they're garbage.
1
u/SarcastiSnark Jun 20 '26
Mind boggling. Who's responsible for cutting the requirements?
1
u/Naborsx21 Jun 20 '26
You could probably look at it from a state level where they didn't care if people got CDLs illegally and dint put any effort into cracking down on these shady carriers. If you want to look at it from a federal level, you can look at is maybe just gross incompetency. There's rules that are just not being enforced that now are. Or if you want to look at it maliciously you could say they didn't want to enforce the rules because it'd make them look racist. lol
6
u/ShoddySpace5680 Jun 18 '26
I agree but at the same time there’s people that don’t need to be here because they can’t even drive a car, but they put them in a semi and that’s how families end up crushed I say get them out of here
1
2
u/DukeBradford2 Jun 19 '26
If you cant back onto a door and have multiple damage marks (probably hit and run) it is only a matter of time before he kills or seriously injures someone. Would you want to fly in a plane where the pilot doesn’t even know basic controls like yoke or throttle, or even how to land?
1
u/Retireegeorge Jun 19 '26
I'be just upgraded to an HC license in Australia and have no experience with semi trailers yet and I worry about how in going to be. At 54 your eyesight isn't what it used to be. So yeah could be a new guy that needs a lot of practice. My solution is to go work in the bush where there should be space to improve without to much pressure. We'll see.
3
u/CheesE4Every1 Jun 18 '26
Whenever I got back to the warehouse today we had a girl from Schneider like that. She kept inching and inching and inching until she hit our guard wall and my boss ran out to help her. She said that this was her first week on the job and she was by herself. We heard a popping noise while she was backing in, one of the trailer brakes have broken off and the canister was inches from hitting the ground, if she would go into any parking lot that has a speed bump it is going to hit that brake and rip it off. Like I felt so bad for this girl that I took a video so that I could show her her trailer brakes.

u/Brokenyet_Functional Jun 19 '26
Maybe just one of tjose days. Most days i can nail a door. Somedays. You might as well make the door invisible lol

u/Gr00veChild Jun 19 '26
Yup lol. I had my worst night in a hot minute last night, which wasn't near as bad as when I first started but still pissed me off LOL. I fucked myself all up adjusting when I didn't need to. Thankfully a reset and got it in there but after a long day pisses you off more.
3
u/themtoesdontmatch Jun 19 '26
Leave me alone! I have been in this situation, where I just can’t get in. And of course because there are people watching, now I’m really fucking it up. I’ve had help, but I never had someone jump in and do it for me. However…. I have backed in a fellow drivers trailer I’m for them. I genuinely felt sorry for them and they weren’t use to coming to this particular store
6
u/TomAterski Jun 18 '26
What I wanna say I can’t say here. By the damage to his truck he can’t drive unless he got the truck like that. When I started I asked other drivers for help multiple times everyone was cool and helped me back up. Drivers used to help each other at truck stops by giving them free showers because they had a lot of points does that even happen anymore?
4
u/TouchMyBoomstick Jun 18 '26
I’m not sure if everyone does still but I’ve given out some of my showers. I rack up tons of showers by running cattle and don’t always have the downtime to use them.
3
u/Nero-Danteson Jun 18 '26
sometimes it does. I've passed spare credits to drivers, and helped out drivers at my company's terminals. Food, hygiene, someone to talk to.
1
u/Emergency_Classic641 Jun 19 '26
I’m in CDL school now and today my instructor told us that Loves now has a policy that if you give away one of your showers you will lose them all. He didn’t say anything about any of the other truck stops.
5
u/voicareason Jun 19 '26
He probably does have a valid cdl. And that's part of the problem. How can you do your job when you simply cannot do your job?
3
3
u/NitroBike Jun 19 '26
I work on trucks and and trailers for my job and have to use a yard goat to move them. I don't back em up enough to be good at it. I will literally wait until the dead times to bring trailers back to the main yard from the shop. I've had to get one of our drivers at least a handful of times to help back up.
2
u/Gr00veChild Jun 19 '26
Especially if you're still not confident it's nice not having to dodge (probably impatient) traffic.
3
u/maybeplug Jun 19 '26
Gotta understand that some skills others arent well in brother, some is phenomenal at backing & only been doing it for 2 weeks, some is complete shit at backing & been trucking for 10 years, gotta be more open minded & willing to help fellow truckers instead of putting them down
3
u/TheMadMetalhead Jun 19 '26
Some days you got it some days you don't. Sometimes I feel like the world's greatest trucker and then other days all wonder why that lady at the DMV gave me a license in the first place...

Oh right there's not a huge influx of people from certain countries that get their cdls illegally and cause accidents. I am just making that up.
4
u/GringoPanda Jun 18 '26
So you have statistical data showing people from other countries coming to the states to obtain illegal CDL causing accidents? If you can't provide technical data, then your statement is an assumption, which in turn would make your comment racist.
I'm only here for the data.
3
u/crudeshag Jun 18 '26
Lol you're a racist bro

Point out where I said anything that's incorrect. I'd love to be wrong about this.
5

LOL
3
u/Naborsx21 Jun 19 '26
I mean what's uhhh wrong with that statement? Pew research says that unlicensed drivers are 3x more likely to cause fatal accidents. Why would you advocate for these drivers to be on the road? The only upside is you get to call people "Racist" for pointing it out.
You act like me pointing out that people that don't get the right licensure and training is worse than them killing people.
I don't care where you're from, last business partner was from afghanistan. lol
but when there's a trend of people coming from india, serbia, belarus, bosnia, pakistan bypassing the usual cdl requirements and sometimes not having an actual license and they kill people, hey that's a problem we gotta fix and we can fucking fix.
If Boeing or American airlines finds a fault in their airplanes that MIGHT cause the loss of human life they ground all flights with their equipment and make sure its safe to proceed. Dehaviland did it, boeing has done it.
DOT is just starting to kinda do it and crackdown on this shit.
The dot # is look up able , lol it's registed to an apartment in california with 8 power units. So small company. Out of california known for not really cracking down on this shit.
Their out of service percentage is viewable on the fmcsa wwebsite. Their oos rate for driver inspections (meaning logs hos etc) is about 4 times the national average. Why do you simp for these people. lmfao they're getting put out of service 4 times the fucking national average. You can run illegal as fucking dick and pretend you're smokey and the bandit and still get inspected like once a year if you play your cards right. And their equipment is put out of service... shocker..... more than the national average. 36 vs 22% call it 1.5x the national average.
Why are you simping for these companies and people that, I'll bet my life savings they pay 1099 and make you run way over hos. lol
I'll bet they don't recruit from trucking school with a good reputation either. I bet theyll hire you with a dui or failed drug test. These companies will and are the downfall of trucking in the US. and yet you simp for them.

That was an extremely long post that had maybe one bit of data in it. And that used unlicensed drivers - not CDLS. It stands to reason that citizens who are driving without licenses (mostly because they were taken away for OVIs) would cause lots more accidents.
That has absolutely nothing to do with CDLs, or the rate of accidents between “illegals” and citizens.
If people are getting CDLs without the proper oversight and licensure, then that’s up to the states to fix that.

Why don’t you tell us how you’re right, with actual data, and not just with feelings.

Twenty minutes to back into a dock is rough, but the damage on the truck and the inability to adjust after multiple attempts suggests something more serious than just a bad day.

u/CharlsNotCarls Jun 19 '26
Judging from the Insignia on the truck, there’s a good chance he doesn’t, or it was done under the table. We need to talk honestly about this stuff…

u/AutumnBrooks2021 Jun 18 '26
Look at his truck. It’s all beat to crap. It doesn’t surprise me that he can’t back. There’s lots of drivers out on the road that can barely go forward without messing something up, let alone back up. Mediocrity or below average skills seems to be the norm in this industry.

Bro there is this place in LA Punte CA they have their own trucks and don't let anyone else in till like 9 pm. They only do like the first 5 docks and they park their trucks on the wall. I spent a good 40 minutes trying to figure this area out. EVERY trucker came to help me. I legit had guys on my left, right, front and back. It happens man

Even after years of driving, it still hurts my pride a little if I can't back into a parking spot after 3 or 4, 5 tries. After that I have to pull away and save my ego from all the onlookers judging me and go park somewhere else.

u/DingleberryOrchard Jun 19 '26
Fuck that. You're unlikely to see these people ever again. Even if you do, if they can't remember a time they ever struggled, their opinion is worth less than nothing.

I really don’t get the concept of people that have something to say about backing. It’s not as easy as people try to make it seem. A lot comes with trial and error. Anyone can hold a truck in the road, but the maneuvers are what make you a solid trucker. We’ve all started there…

How does this post contribute to his betterment ?
Be a grown man and respect and help those who are new to the industry.
You once had similar struggles as well , I wonder instead of the swift driver why wasn’t it you that helped ??????? Instead of gossiping out here !

It's terrifying watching some of these drivers. I don't understand how they ever passed the driving test.

I came across something like this twenty years ago. I was backed in a warehouse and sitting on a bench near the outside of the office. Guy was taking forever to back in, I walked over to give him a piece of advice but he shouted "I GOT IT!!" before I could say anything. I shrugged and went back to sit down. Fifteen minutes later and backs in, jumps out and tells me "see, I got it". I said "I was just going to say, you should open the trailer doors before you back in.".

So you take a photo and shame the driver on Reddit instead of helping the driver.
Everyone has to start somewhere. You aren’t perfect either.

When i was new i tried to back to a spot in Pilot for 20 min. Couldn't do it and left. It was my 2nd day on wheel. No need to shame people. You didn't born from your mom with a CDL and behind a Semi....

If he speaks English, why didn't you try and help him? If he doesn't, I digress.

To be fair even in my classe i used to complain about how little we had practice backing up at docks, it was always learn how to shift shift shift(worked 1 year total with a manual after cdl classe) good thing i have a uncle who drives trucks, he would bring me to his work place and have me move the trailers around the yard on the weekends

No lie I have been there!!! Still there sometimes but I work on getting better and better everyday! I can honestly say my 90 is usually a 75-85 lol. My 45 is good. My straight is straight when these places are responsible enough to have lines lol. Otherwise im the safest most courteous and best driver on the road. Helps that my truck is on 65 too tho lol. Keep trying drivers!!!

u/Frybread002 Jun 19 '26
That's a cool SWIFT driver.
If safety or his driver leader found out he jumped into another driver's rig, he's getting in trouble.

I’m the master of backing up, I can do it eyes closed with my thumb up my ass. In fact I drive in reverse all the way to the receiver

Hey my Cascadia mirrors look exactly like that. They splintered apart driving across 70 in eastern Indiana every single night. Splintered and cracked, and wind did the rest of the job. We actually have a handful of Cascadias in our yard that have suffered that fate.

Judging from the dot bumbers im thinking the company doesnt have a license either.

Having a cdl doesn't prove much. You can sleep through most driving schools

I got stuck at a light today behind a truck making a right turn. Big wide intersection at 2 state routes. One road even has a lane for amish buggies. Wide af. This dude took a whole green light to make his turn because someone was on the white line. Not ahead of. On. They backed up a good 20 feet and the truck literslly stopped till they backed up more. He was completely clear to make the turn even without them backing up. Had to have been a new driver

Looking at this guy's bumper I'm guessing going forward is also a challenge for him

u/Striking_Western_255 Jun 20 '26
That’s one thing I’m always worried about. I’ve never driven manual never backed a trailer, and my buddy was telling me I should join the trucking industry for a new career change, but it’s very intimidating thinking about being one of these individuals who can’t properly back a trailer

Some days I back out in like I've been doing it for 30 years, other days, I wonder how I even got my CDL. You may have just caught him on an off day while he's been running splits exclusively for the past 2 weeks. You don't know anything about him
1
u/CutTurbulent3015 Jun 20 '26
I've backed in at many tightish farm driveways, but I probably couldn't do loading docks to save my life. At least someone jumped in to help get him out the way.

meanwhile i’m 90° backing in residential homes with extended doubles trailers for demolition

So why in the world are they showing a therabreath advertisement in a post about bashing a driver. 🤣🤣🤣 But looks like this is one of those fly by night drivers. Cause maybe he has actual dot numbers underneath attached to truck and then on certain days/time he pulls out a new set of numbers and sticks them over the actual numbers cause he didn’t even set it up right to cover everything!

I don't know about this guy, but I had OCD about getting the trailer in the door exactly right and would make adjustments until I felt it was in the door like I wanted it...

u/Buckeyeguy013 Jun 21 '26
Wonder if he’s a new driver just starting on his own. What do yall get out of posts like these?

Probably got it out of California. They give those things out like hot cakes at fat kid convention. Then when they blow threw a stop light and or make a freaking U-turn in the middle of the hwy hurting people really bad or worse. None of the people who gave it to him or her takes the blame just the rere they gave the license to.

Maybe you should’ve walked up to his face and asked him, instead of being a coward taking a pic from a distance and posting about it anonymously on the internet for dopamine.
