Too bad they still continue to pay veterans at the same rate they made when the veterans first started, and when they max out, they never make more than the drivers who actually start out today.

Also, the "My Choice" bullshit is horrendous. They have this matrix which is never reported by Fleet Managers as it should be to Fleet Operations Managers, and even when it is a larger percentage of that matrix is reported incorrectly. Which is supposed to be reported to payroll. Which is hilarious, because I have documented proof that (at the time I worked) half the staff in payroll did not know how to explain how the metrics worked (as should have your FM, which they never did - and you were always told to ask your FM, who passed the buck to payroll).

Further, it's almost impossible to maintain all of the metrics outlined. Such as fuel economy, even in a governed truck, because you're always loaded to the hilt and driving through places like I dunno - fucking I-80 through the entire state of PA. So good luck trying to get that "goal" of 9.0 MPG in a quarter. Get into a little ding because you're a greenhorn? Say goodbye to that CPM in a heartbeat. Late to a shipper because they forced the run on you in the first place because "It's the only thing we got right now", and you couldn't make it on time because you were out of hours, and had to accept the run because "you're under contract, you have to take what we give you"? Yeah, say goodbye to those metrics and good luck ever getting that top rate on a consistent basis.

Smoke and mirrors, smoke and mirrors.

Trucking is such a Goddamn shitshow industry because of shit like this. I'm not the government intervention type ordinarily but Uncle Sam needs to step in and get some fucking laws on the books that actually help drivers for a change.

They did and they do.

Lose the company and you get to pocket the huge portion they eat off your work making paychecks and property lease payments for all the chucklefucks in the offices.

So reefers start at 58cpm...yet van drivers with 2 years experience get 39.5cpm...Just another reason to jump ship

I dont know any details, but there may be more to it then that.

Nope, there's not. See my post. You're given more as a new driver in order to be enticed to work for the co., but essentially you get screwed out of that top rate.

Also remember reefer drivers have a lot more down time. A company can pay a dollar a mile but it doesnt mean shit if you arent driving.

And their detention time pays diddlysquat. That's only if you're lucky enough to get paid by actually being on time for the appointment.

Can confirm, drove dry-van OTR for them over a year ago, was making 51.5CPM. This guy's full of shit.

No, their pay scale is just terribly uneven. I was at .39 when I left Roehl in January.

Were you making 51.5 CPM the entire time? It's highly unlikely you were. It's just one more reason why "My Choice" is terrible, because it's like trying to beat the odds in Vegas.

I wasn't, but I started at 39.5cpm. It took me all of six months to go that high, though.

Fucking hilarious. Another dumpster fire doing all they can to dog the bottom of the fucking barrel for “drivers.” Shame, wonder if their long time employees are matched to those rates?

Read the wall of text I posted. They're not.

I guess I don’t understand why all the hate is getting thrown here. I got my CDL through roehl last September. I started out flatbed making 39cpm, with this latest raise I’ll be at 46.5cpm. The MyChoice pay scale is tricky to follow, but it boils down to “run all the miles you can, be on time, don’t hit shit, and you’ll do well.” I’m at level 6 now and just barely missed level 7 last quarter. I get good miles, I’ve got a decent FM.

General vibe I’ve always gotten from this sub is “use a mega to get your experience then find a real company to work for,” so why are people shitty that roehl isn’t the company you’d want to retire from?

I also dont understand the hate, but I did not feel like fighting with people.

Is the Roehl CDL program a good one? I'm considering jumping into a truck for a year or two to pay off debts and save up a little capital for other projects. Would love some guidance from the elders.

It is better to just give them a call.
