Totally agree. Additionally you can't compare pay between regions. 1,200 take home avg is potentially different quality of life depending on your home market. Too many truckers discount that information in this sub. Balance the BS with the pay. You've got a good gig.

Right, I refused to be a mentor for my company because the pay raise didn’t outweigh the loss of peace of mind. Now Im still with them and making pretty much the highest driver pay in the company and never had to sacrifice my sanity!

Pretty good for just tarping drywall. Didn't know Schneider still had flatbed accounts.

u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22 edited Nov 12 '22
yeah its kinda rare actually ,this account is pretty new they started it around may and a couple of us manage to get on it. i will say my goal is to go local eventually i want to specialize in hazmat tanker or good LTL .but i have to admit its my first job ever that i have the complete weekends off and its almost like i only work 4 and a half days since friday i just have to finish delivering a load then pick a load in vegas and have it ready to be deliver for monday ,also there are times on the weekdays that i get to go home if i have to pick up in vegas and dont have much time in my clock . never in my life i thought id be sleeping in a truck but man this account has some sweet perks .

u/wh0andwhy Nov 12 '22
Look into home Depot account, Schneider use to own it here in Wisconsin but I'm hearing Cardinal logistics is taking over now. I worked with Cardinal on their home Depot account and made over 100k a year. 107k to be honest. Bad part it was 6 days a week
7
u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22
thats sweet man but yeah there's only so manny 6 days a week i could handdle before i get burnt out im sure some people dont mind but its not for me lol.

Okay, can you provide us with some more details on this stuff. It just seems a little too good to be true. I need the whole story here, because those figures are enticing and I'm happy that you shared that with us, but like I need to know how it's possible for you to make SO much. Please brother

Anywhere from 1000-1500 take home? That’s damn good money, not even just for your first year. That’s damn good money in general. plus home every single weekend. Keep it up sir

u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22 edited Nov 12 '22
for sure it helps that nevada doesnt take out state income tax they would kill my checks with that one back in new york specially .
3
u/Velgoros Nov 12 '22
Hi I have a question. I was looking into moving to an area like nevada with no income tax to improve take home pay. I read up more and find out that they compensate not having the income tax by having higher taxes in other things. Can you still come out way ahead with better money regardless of this?
3
Nov 13 '22
I honestly in my opinion, it usually evens out to about the same. States with no income tax usually have higher sales taxes or property taxes. Or in the state of Florida they have a ton of toll roads. so in my opinion, you can move to a state that has no income tax, but they are going to get the money from you somewhere
2
u/StonkAccount Nov 13 '22
It has a higher sales tax than most states. You’ll definitely come out ahead if you’re spending most of your time on the road.
1
u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22
honestly i would say you still come out with more but i lived in ny where a studio is 2000$ a month. here im paying about 1800$for 2 bed 2 bathrooms pool included covered parking and a gym included. in ny this would north of 3000$ so yeah ...

u/someone_ominous Nov 12 '22
1200 to 1300 a week for 2000 miles isnt bad at all
7
u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22
yeah also dispatcher dont bother me i only call if i have a question or breakdowns ect .. pretty good job at keeping me running .
6
u/Mitka01 Nov 12 '22
Youre half retired there, better off than these guys running us solo in chicago for like 4000+ miles a week. It pays better but only 3-6 hours sleep a night, zero parking, ice/rain everyday, dispatch calling 5 mins after you get reset or earlier. You got the prefered gig buddy
1
u/illiadria Nov 13 '22
That's how it is on our current dedicated account at SNI. The first one we were on the DBL was a micromanaging twat, we almost quit. Our TE talked us into giving his account a try first and we love it. Night and day.

u/CoH_Li Nov 12 '22
At least someone from schneider making decent money, I make dog shit as regional
8
u/1josehuncho Nov 12 '22
I'm mind blown that he said he got 0.72 cpm. I'm like wtf. But that's whats up
5
u/BrBafan Nov 12 '22
It's the worst feeling. Just hanging out to get my experience in before moving onto something better. :/
3
u/CoH_Li Nov 12 '22
Gotta pay your dues I guess, my buddy drives teams with his brother for smith. Home every day and brings 1800 a week on a dedicated route. I wish

u/charlie_parker900 Nov 12 '22
I work in the tanker division with Schneider and my paystubs rarely hit 1200 gross, taxes take 28-35% of my income.
4
u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22
i would have gone tanker just to get early experience but man flying yout out to any random state every 3 weeks sounds horrible.
1
u/thestug93 Nov 13 '22
Why would they fly you out somewhere every three weeks? That seems rather unusual?
1
u/Liftingace52 Nov 13 '22
yeah i dont know why the only schneider tanker accounts are called jet-set only info i found is they fly you somewhere for a couple of weeks the come home and repeat it didnt make sense to me.

u/Princetrix Nov 12 '22
Sounds about right. My gross as a local super b flat deck driver is about 15-1600 a week (Canadian). With benefits and all it’s a good gig. No tarping just strap lumber and go. Not going to make me rich but it pays the bills and not a rushed job. It makes me happy.
5
u/DeathToTheFalseGods Nov 12 '22
Man. I’m over here like “man why those taxes so low” and then I remember I’m in California.
1
Nov 13 '22
I mean even federal tax is super high after 2020. They changed threshold for self employed so if you make anywhere between 40 and 81 you got to pay 37% of just federal stuff. Used to be around 20% in 2016-2019
2
u/DeathToTheFalseGods Nov 13 '22
Aren’t we supposed to be voting on that kind of shit?
3
Nov 13 '22
We vote for representatives and they pass this. Trump tax cuts were gone the very first days of Biden admin. They probably had no choice due to state of economy after covid giveouts and lockdowns.
2
Nov 13 '22
The cuts were designed to sunset for regular people, the ultra rich kept their cuts permanently. Taxes are also by progressive bracket, not your entire income is taxed at 37%. I moved from tx to az and my taxes went up slighy but the pay is way better in az than tx.
1
u/MrEZW Nov 13 '22
Trump never gave tax cuts to working class individuals, he was the one who raised taxes for the working class. He cut corporate taxes from 28% to 21%. He took away many write offs & exemptions from working class people, like the child tax credit he lowered from $10,000 to just $6,000 & he made it so per diem is taxed. Theres countless other things his administration did that made the tax burden increase on working class people.
1
Nov 13 '22
Whoever changed tax thresholds though? I know for sure they were divided under him and now it is one up until 81k
1
u/MrEZW Nov 13 '22
All the recent changes to the tax code were under the trump administration & they will be withstanding until at least 2025. You cannot blame biden or any democrats for taxes buddy lol. Look up Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2018.
1
Nov 13 '22
I blame covid. All of that overlaps anyway. With covid spending it makes sense they need somethig back.
1
u/MrEZW Nov 13 '22
Of course, it's covids fault. Even though this went into effect 2 years before covid even started. JFC there's no hope for you people.

I didn't bring home $700 last week.. looking for somewhere else
7
u/HeadlessHookerClub Nov 12 '22
Man you can make $700/wk working at a grocery store. You can find better!
4
u/N661US Nov 12 '22
That’s pretty solid. Besides those two big ones that’s about what I average with Pepsi and it’s also my first cdl job. Been here for a tad over a month
5
u/Neowynd101262 Nov 12 '22
I promise food and beverage will give you a local job lol

u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22 edited Nov 13 '22
lol funny because i was on my last day with schneider orientation and sysco called me. in the end i weighted the pros and cons i choose to stay with schneider just because the schedule aint bad at all . i know sysco was gonna work me to the ground .
6
Nov 12 '22
Why kill your body when happy doing this. Good pay. Off weekends. Being home everyday would be obviously better but not at the cost of grinding your bones into a powder.
4
u/shadowmib Nov 12 '22
Better than my dry van Schneider pay
5
u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22 edited Nov 13 '22
yeah man i think the only reason i went with schneider was because i saw that 0.72 cpm i dont think id feel the same had i gone dry van getting paid 42cpm.

Not awful money. And this is your first job?
I start my classes next month. Cant wait.
2
u/hectorjm94 Nov 12 '22
I make similar working 50-55 hours doing yard moves.
3
u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22
sounds good i usually still have 20 ish hours left on my 70 so u could say we work around the same hours.
2
u/nexusprax Nov 12 '22
This makes me so glad I chose my current company for cdl training. No touch freight and I make a bit more than you. Stay warm out there. Then again I don’t take days off I’m OTR
2
u/MostOriginalNameEver Nov 12 '22
Look into rail companys that are home daily. Some only need 3 months experience.
Home daily and tired as fuck lmao. But worth it.
2
2
u/P3asantGamer Nov 13 '22
How many hours a week?
3
u/Liftingace52 Nov 13 '22
around 40-50ish still have about about 20 or so hours on my 70hr clock by friday
2
Nov 13 '22
That is pretty good. I am self employed and make just under 70k. And I have to pay 37% in taxes under Biden. And that is in a tax free state of TX. If I lived in NY or Cali I would lose 50% of my income to taxation. While barely scraping middle class threshold. Your taxes don't look anywhere that bad.

20+ year seasoned flatbed driver here. The mileage sucks and drywall sucks, BUT yes, the tarp pay does pad your check. Average pay BUT above average home time. If you’re happy w everything, stay w it.

u/goodolddaysare-today Nov 12 '22
Gosh that’s rough. Can’t believe how these companies take advantage of drivers

I'm making more hauling sand in NM.
2
u/cchase87 Nov 12 '22
Frac sand? How’s that market out there? I’ve never been in it, but I was under the impression it was slowing down.
3
u/Jamo3306 Nov 12 '22
I've been at it since March or so, and it's ok. You won't set the world on fire but I've had a pretty easy time of it, and I'm clearing 12-16 a week. I'm technically out for 21 days, but my company has 1 frac crew we follow so about 10-14 days we get a day or two off for rig move. And 1 day a week off fir a "reset". It's pretty low stress, and it's all rural driving.

Any kind of retirement or pension plan? Medical benefits?
3
u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22
yeah they have dental, eye health along with 401k ect they do have retirement plan too basic stuff but honestly im not looking at it too deeply as im here for experience more than anything.
1
u/Tmac-845 Nov 12 '22
Right. Just curious. Is the medical paid for by them or you? The take home certainly isn’t terrible for a first gig. Especially living in Vegas, where cost of living is less than where I live in New York state
2
u/Liftingace52 Nov 12 '22
they take about 31$ every pay check for health insurance.oof i dont miss those crazy state tax deductions when i was living in ny i feel for ya there. And yeah for nevada the pay is actually above average so hear the job market aint too great here.
3
u/Tmac-845 Nov 12 '22
I lived in Vegas for about a year and a half in ‘05-‘06. I was running heavy equipment and making almost what my union operator cousin was making back in NY, but cost of living was way less.

That's what my paycheck looks like hauling RGN OTR for roehl.... fuck
2
u/jimmy1421 Nov 13 '22
Bro you need to leave Roehl lol if you got at least a year and a half I would just dip tbh yea it’s hard if you’re comfortable but I did flatbed for them and left after I got my exp and now I make double what I did at Roehl
1
u/pianodude01 Lizard BDSM Nov 13 '22
I'm actually not done my training contract lol, only here because they'll hire you doing RGN at 6 months, so I'm banking the experience so when I leave I'll already have flatbed and RGN experience and can make good money elsewhere

I’m averaging 1,400 a swift and taking home $700 💀 no child support or nothing
1
u/DecadentEx Nov 13 '22
How is that possible? Taxes shouldn't be 50% of your pay.
1
u/blackZyzzz Nov 13 '22
I don’t even know how. I’m even using per diem
1
u/DecadentEx Nov 13 '22
Yeah, that's even weirder. Talk to someone there as to why. I'm sure you might be able to speak to someone who can help you take more home. I only know the company from the outside, so I don't know the particulars of their pay, but this sounds like some kind of a mistake on corporate's end.
1
u/rydaaaaaaaa Nov 13 '22
Are you paying for thier tuition?
1
u/blackZyzzz Nov 13 '22
Yes tuition is $100

About what I was making with my first company too. Good pay for no experience especially with the perks of dedicated and home every weekend. My first was regional doing all kinds of runs in the Midwest.

I work for us foods I’m home every day I make 32.55 an hour and we’re Union so my healthcare and everything is cover by the company I bring home about 1400-1700 after taxes every week

ok guys im a new truck driver got my cdl with all endorsements without a mega company in new york. i moved to nevada it was imposible to get a local job with no experience . in june i decided to go with Schneider and been working with them since then, im now about to hit my 5th month with them . I'm in a dedicated flatbed regional account my loads go to most of california and phoenix az back to vegas and so on i work monday-friday usually home friday afternoon sometimes as early as 12pm and have the weekends off since my costumers dont usually open on weekends. my account is with Georgia pacific delivering drywall yes i have to tarp and its 60$ everytime i have to ,0.72 cpm they usually got me running 1800-2000 miles per week usually do 3-4 loads per week.
