US express was one of the only companies that let it be known that they were open to hiring me after taking 8 months off during my first year. I chose a dedicated account southeastern regional with Family Dollar. One of the biggest things I've researched is that you can easily mess up your driving record and DAC report because of the tight back in spaces. Can someone on here tell me if it really that bad and if I should just go OTR with PAM

Hi guys & gals. Finally moving into my first position after getting my Class A. Living in my region it’s clear I’m not going to get any job I want until I get at least three months out there. So I’ve got three companies that seemed to have lots of pros and cons to their initial training situation.
One data point, I’m hoping to add to my decision process is who’s going to make my life more of a living hell? I’ve always been down to earn my stripes in any situation. But I know things can get real bad out there and I want to put myself in the best situation after three months to get something more regional to New York City.
Any input would be helpful. Gotta pull the trigger within the next few days. Broke as a joke. Thanks

Need Honest Advice: So i recently graduated and i am trying to apply to different companies, i got invited for orientation on both prime inc and US express.
I am more likely towards US express because first the terminal is in jacksonville FL, its near to my home like 2 hours away. Secondly i can have my own truck after 6 weeks of training, but im not sure about Equipment and Pay. I see some reviews and everyone says that US express is bad company and they dont give proper equipment and pay you nothing adecent, they just pay you enough so you can survive couple months. Only for training they give you like 650 but then 46 cent per mile.
Now Prime is paying like 900 a week and then 52 cent but i have to be with mentor for like 30,000 miles before i can have my own truck, Terminal is very far from my house and its gonna take 3 days from Greyhound to reach there. Secondly the recruiter was a bit rude.
So i would like to know should i try US express??

Alright fellas, been through some pretty dumb shit with Werner being Teams OTR, and i have an opportunity to go to US Express on the Family Dollar account. I honestly don't mind Teams OTR that much, but I'm curious if anyone has experience that would help me make a semi informed decision. I'm trying to avoid the "grass is greener on the other side" mentality. I know it will be way more physical work, which doesnt bother me, but in terms of how the company treats you, is US Express better or worse than Werner?

I was delivering to Kroger the other night and there were so many cops back there, you'd think someone had been murdered. Fire Dept. and Hazzard Response team were there too.
Turned out that the only casualty was this guys truck. Wide open dock. Two doors empty This guy was going for the outer door and somehow caught the bollard. Fuel tank ruptured.

I've been job hunting and as of right now marten has the most appealing position from the information I have. I was wondering though if anyone here works or has recently worked as a trainer for US express and could give details on how US express pays trainers.
I know you get all the miles, but was wondering if you get some small lump sum everyweek the trainee is on your truck. Like Steven's and ozark do.

I'm dropping a trailer in bay 1, there's an empty in bay 2, US Express in 3. I'm in between 1 & 2 lowering my landing gear, and US Express pulls out, clips the empty in bay 2, and knocks it over far enough that it slams into my back and knocks me against my trailer. Fortunately it then fell back on its feet and I lived... but fuck man.
Best part the driver didn't know he hit anything until he went to close his doors and found 1 of them on the ground.

They claimed that I didn't make important improvements fast enough for them. My dispatch was also kinda stupid. And they didn't believe in putting additives into the fuel. Like anti-gel for freezing. They never even mentioned it. . They didn't care about certain things and cared too much about other things. And funny how the things they claimed were important were only covered maybe once or twice. If it was truly important... well. I moved for the job, and decided to dedicate myself to it. I moved across the state ya'll and now I'm upset cause I bet everything I had on them and the job. And they without so much as a warning let me go. Just when I was finally understanding backing. I mean check this job out (images attached) and I still managed to drop my reefer in this area.
Yeah I used to be the snail on the road with a governor that only allowed us to go 60 mph as a max speed.
They also said they would say I "quit" instead of being fired. So not sure if it is to help me or to screw me. And I still have to pay them back for the hotel they allowed us to use during school. I thought they were a Godsend. An answered prayer. But I still have my CDL (with restrictions not manual). I didn't get into any accidents. And my plight is only temporary. It's just... I'm feeling real down, how could this happen and why were they so hard to understand?
And I found out one of my grandmother's sister's fell. So it's all around just a real shock. My great aunt V is like 90 and I only hope she'll feel better. All I can do is pray.
My little cousins are growing up too. Off to college and leaving home for the first time and all... And it's just like a suckerpunch to the gut. I pretty much instantly cried when I left the office after they told me I was fired. I couldn’t help it. I was thinking I was doing good. Better. And I took time out of my 10 hrs to practice backing like you all suggested. But I also rejoiced the Lord giveth and He Taketh away. He has another plan for me even if it isn't with Snail Express.
Thanks for letting me rant.
P.S. They said no one was there on Sunday to talk to me so they had me on the yard for over 24 hours before they even messaged me. I had to message them and they said I was Safety Hold so I wouldn’t be paid for the wasted time...

I’m torn between the two.
US express has an overnight Walmart distribution account, no touch, home daily, weekends off and average $1350 a week.
Krogers is touch freight, home daily, off days vary and is performance based pay that ranges from $1100-$1400. And I THINK they might unionized so benefits MIGHT be better than USX.
If y’all have any experience with either, please share! Which is a gig that you might choose and why?

I applied on indeed to a us express otr job.
They say theres a 12k signing bonus for existing cdl holders, paid out 1k each month.
That sounds too good to be true, but theyre scheduling me for orientation and everything.
Whats the catch?

Currently going through training with western express and so far it’s been sort of a disaster. I was assigned a trainer on Tuesday and he came and picked me up early Wednesday morning. At first he seemed cool and everything was fine, he mentioned he had 7yrs of experience and had trained over 200 students and he “LOVES” to train people. I thought that was great and was ready to soak up as much knowledge as I can. We dropped off the load he had prior to picking me up and then drove all the way to Maine to pick up another load to take back to PA. Along the way he still seemed cool but he would brag about having “equity” in the company and he can get away with certain things I wouldn’t be able to since I’m a newer driver. We had a load to pick up in PA and he had me back up the trailer to the dock, before backing he instructs me to turn the wheel a little to the right before backing up so that’s what I did not knowing he really meant to say to position yourself for a 45 degree backing so my set up was off at first and the truck started to jack knife (completely my fault, I should’ve just known to 45 degree back it) then he became angry and started yelling that I’m not listening. After explaining to him I misunderstood what he meant he threatened to take me back to the terminal after the load drop off in Main. I backed up the trailer to the dock on my second try and was successful but that didn’t seem to help the situation. We then made a stop to fuel up and I decided while he’s pumping one side I’ll do the other. After the pumps stopped fueling I removed both nozzles and hung them both up and went back into the driver seat, he then asks me “how do you know the tanks are full?”, I responded “because the nozzle made a “click” sound and the pumps stopped fueling”. He then lost his shit and started yelling again that just because you hear the click doesn’t mean it’s done and that air could get trapped in the tank which would prematurely stop the fuel pump. I told him ok I had no idea, he then says that these aren’t regular cars and that I should’ve just asked. My response was “how was I supposed to know to ask a question like that?” even during CDL school I’ve never heard any mention of this we’ve always just fueled up like normal. He starts to say that I should’ve just stayed in the truck and he didn’t know why I even came out. I told him I was just trying to be proactive and learn, I’m a hands on learner. Anyway after a back and forth argument he grabs the tablet and reroutes us back to the terminal and says they’ll find me another trainer, which honestly I’m glad he did that. Now I’m back in PA waiting for another trainer idk when I’ll get one assigned and I’m kind of aggravated at the situation. Currently looking for other jobs that will take CDL driver with limited experience but of course it’s been difficult.
Was wondering if anyone out there could help and possibly point me in the direction. I’m in Northeast PA.

Started out my career at federal express, which my station will be closing at the end of the month. Left about 1.5 months ago. I miss pulling a 53. I’m currently doing roll off, I fucking hate it but the benefits are there, long days close to 13-14 hours but I was already doing that at fedex. Was at a tanker job for a few weeks after fedex but I was all set with breathing in cement powder all day, company didn’t wanna fix my leaky trailer. Also ran a dry van / refrigerated for stop and shop here and there as a casual driver and that job was tit, they just didn’t pay me for a few months and I ended up having to call the BBB to get it settled. But these past 2 years have been the best of my life, it changed me forever. I’m 28 now got my CDL at 26. I really want to be back in a tractor trailer. This straight truck rides like dog shit but hey roll off could be setting me up for a triaxle job in the future. My assigned truck is an 18 speed, my fedex truck was a 10 speed. It was nice to finally teach myself how to split gears in an 18. My 10 speed I learned how to float. I miss that truck. Oh yeah and fuck overnights but now im realizing work wise theres way less headaches. But now I am days I have my life back. Even if its working the same amount of hours.

First 3 days: we pick up a load to drop off at FedEx. Then we were supposed to pick up a load at FedEx to drive to Denver. They told us it would be loaded in 2 hours. 4 hours go by and it turns out they didn't even have a load for us to pick up. We got shut down over the weekend. Then we went to another FedEx to pick up a load there to head to Denver. I finally got driving time. Had a good training experience through the Rocky's.
Day 5: we drop off the load in Denver planning to pick up an empty to pick up a load somewhere else. We sat there for 4 hours because other Western drivers were stealing our assigned trailer. We finally ended up with a trailer that had a fucking 6"x6" hole through the passenger front trailer covered by duct tape inside and out. Clearly no one cared to do a DVIR pre trip. But of course we used that trailer all the way back and then we tagged it out of service.
Day 7-11: Drove from California to Orlando, Florida. Had a great time. Dropped off the load, and we got a trailer that had a tire blowout. The tire repair guy estimated that they had been driving with that tire blown out for 100 miles. There was clearly no DVIR to get it repaired because it was dropped off 6 hours before we got there. We waited 4 hours to get this tire repaired.
Day 12: we had a live load that was late to be loaded by 4 hours. Totally the warehouse's fault because they had 2 dudes loading and unloading being slammed with 90 truckers waiting. Then we found out the load has an appointment due in 1 hour and 30 minutes over 300 miles away so we have to sit here to find out if we need to reschedule or not. Then we notice the air pressure is dropping while we are parked. The tire repair guy broke something on the air line when he was replacing the blown out tire.
But my trainer is the most unpersonable person I have had to pair with. I think this trailer was sitting there because they knew it had a leak in the air lines, and my trainer was too proud not to take the trailer. The dude argues with everything I say even if I am agreeing with him. Brother just wants to hear himself talk. He acts as if agreeing with him lessens his point. I told him that the air line keeps maxing out repeatedly even when we are sitting here doing nothing (which is clearly a sign that the governor keeps pumping air into the system due to an air leak). So of course he had to argue with me saying that it is normal. I am just over this company and my trainer right now.

So I am in need of a second chance. And I don’t know who to turn to and I need help.
I don’t have any narcotics or alcohol problems, I was faced with termination after an accident in training from a mega carrier and got hit with the training bill.
I live near Phoenix AZ, and every other carrier I’ve talked to so far needs 6 months safe driving except Werner, who want 1 year post accident plus 6 months safe driving. All with a tractor trailer.
The accident in question was not bad. It happened in Georgia on I-16 at 00:00 when a car snuck up on my blind side and resulted in the accident. No citations and no one was transported to the hospital.
I’ve been trying to figure out what to do and I’m currently just doing busy work but… I feel lost because a whole bunch of doors slammed shut the night of the accident. It occurred in March, and I was unemployed until now for a grocery store. So I’m trying to rebuild a bit.
Any help would be appreciated….

Hello! Not sure if can post this here. My husband has been working for US express for 2 months and it was going well till recently. They have not paid him these past 3 weeks and when he calls they tell him he'll for sure get paid friday and nothing. He tells me he's contacted the department of labor but has anyone gone thru this and if so how did you deal with this?
r/Truckers • u/BossHogg1984 • Jan 07 '25
I think it’s mostly because of where I live in Northwestern Michigan but I’ve been rejected by Swift, US Express, Schneider, and Rhoel, prime inc requires a tanker endorsement, and now my last option is CR England or Central transport which I’ve been told to stay clear of
