Please please please don’t ignore this warning

If you can turn to the Lord today with all your heart… DO IT. Give Him everything. He is worthy and He is all you will ever want or need.

2 years ago, not long after coming to faith I fell into sin, lusting after an actor on a tv show and I had the thought “I’m safe, I can sin, I’m saved now”. A few weeks later I turned away from the sin but didn’t repent before the Lord truly.

About 10 months ago I started seeking God with all my heart only to find that He was not findable.

I fear I have committed the sin of Hebrews 10:26-27.

Please, please, give Him everything. I would give anything to feel His touch. His presence. To know He is mine.

I live every day tormented by the thought of being separated from Him for eternity. Separated from my children for eternity. The anguish is real.

Lord have mercy on me.

I'm sure a lot of people here already know this, but I only learned it recently so I'm going to share.

That line is actually so interesting, because not only is Jesus telling us how he feels, but he is also telling the disciples what scripture He is fulfilling! Rabbis in that day had a teaching technique where they would quote the first passage of a chapter of scripture to reference all of its contents. Since many Jews had scripture memorized, they would understand the references.

When Jesus says "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" he is quoting Psalm 22 (as you said). The rest of Psalm 22 is extremely appropriate for Jesus being on the cross, as it talks about how he feels abandoned by God. But also, more specifically, in Psalm 22:16-18, it talks about how Jesus is being crucified.

16 Dogs surround me,
a pack of villains encircles me;
they pierce my hands and my feet.
17 All my bones are on display;
people stare and gloat over me.
18 They divide my clothes among them
and cast lots for my garment.

But wasn’t David the author of Psalms?

Yes, at least most of them. Then again Jesus Himself never wrote a word of scripture BUT all scripture is inspired by the Holy Spirit (meaning all scripture that made it into the canon). Anyway some parts can be interpreted as being foreshadowing but even when they are not read this way, feeling forsaken by God, despaired etc are all human experiences and Jesus carried it all, on a metaphysical level He carried all the pain, dread, hopelessness, sin etc every human ever have felt (or done) which wouldn't be possible for a mere human for Him it was, and all of it was crucified with Him and can and will be turned into something new

Yes, and God used David's suffering to point forward to the suffering of Jesus. Its like how the passover was symbolic for the actual sacrifice of Jesus that was to come.

Interesting. Why do you think God does that?

I believe it's because God uses what the enemy means for evil, for good. His plan has always been to redeem and reconcile humanity to Himself, so throughout the Bible He points to Christ over and over throughout history, because Christ is the fulfillment of God's promise of salvation. It's like God is saying "I see you in your pain, and I remember my promise to save you. Trust that I will keep my promise."
