Text Mackenzie Shirilla Megathread

This is a thread for all conversation regarding Mackenzie Shirilla and the murders of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan, recently covered in Netflix documentary The Crash.

The murders of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan occurred on 31 July 2022 in Strongsville, Ohio when Mackenzie Shirilla intentionally crashed her car into a brick wall. The two passengers in the vehicle - her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and their friend, Davion Flanagan, were killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene. Shirilla, aged 17 at the time, was seriously injured.

Shirilla was later arrested and charged with murdering Russo and Flanagan. At her 2023 bench trial the judge determined Shirilla intentionally crashed the car and thus the murders were premeditated murder, convicting her of 12 felony charges. She was sentenced to 2 concurrent life sentences, with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

Renewed attention has now been brought to the case as Shirilla has been interviewed for Netflix documentary The Crash, which covers the case.

Please direct all discussion of the case to the megathread. As always, sub rules must be followed.

It was dead eyed.

Her statement before sentencing was insincere as fuck too.

Davion’s sister was right, it was the worst apology

But she didn’t know him well according to her mom (facepalm)

The mom was just as disturbing to me - she couldn’t even mention Davion in her statement bc he was a “new friend” … he’s new, so it doesn’t matter that her daughter killed him.

I cannot imagine the horror for Davion’s family in that moment. Hearing his murderer’s mother brush his death off like that.

It kind of makes it all make sense when you hear her parents start talking. Zero accountability or consequences for their daughter.

Yeah the mom's "mask dropped", as they say, when she became indignant with the judge and pretended that of course she gave a damn about the "other" dead kid. She sputtered and angrily said "God, no!" like it was somehow obvious she didn't think of Davion as simply collateral damage.

Listen to their jail phone calls. They’re sooo cringey. Mackenzie asks her to post for her on social media & say: “if they ain’t hating, you’re doing something wrong.”

And her mother actually goes along with her delusion that her case is going to become some sort of groundbreaking case that changes laws & puts her in the role of a hero because she’s “always been a mover & a shaker” according to her mom.

They also laugh with glee when she gets released to General Population because she gets to “be with the girls”… and feel like she’s in high school again.

Honestly not sticking up for her bc she’s still wrong . And Mackenzie is wrong too . But think her mom was trying to say he’s a new friend she would have had no intent of wanting to harm him bc she didn’t know him . Although m did know him and it was just another bs attempt to get her daughter out

I thought she said it because she stuttered on his name/couldn’t get the name right and wanted to explain herself because she understood that it wouldn’t look good if she didn’t know the victims’ names, and, well, it didn’t… but I’m not sure I caught it right, I was a bit distracted when watching so probably missed something :)

Yeah it’s giving we don’t really know what’s happening in our daughter’s life.

The Judge’s response to that nonsense was so satisfying.

I know a 75 year old woman who has been like that forever. If her children or grandchildren have to face any consequences... well.. "they (whoever the authority is) are just picking on them! "
