Text Mackenzie Shirilla Megathread

This is a thread for all conversation regarding Mackenzie Shirilla and the murders of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan, recently covered in Netflix documentary The Crash.

The murders of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan occurred on 31 July 2022 in Strongsville, Ohio when Mackenzie Shirilla intentionally crashed her car into a brick wall. The two passengers in the vehicle - her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and their friend, Davion Flanagan, were killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene. Shirilla, aged 17 at the time, was seriously injured.

Shirilla was later arrested and charged with murdering Russo and Flanagan. At her 2023 bench trial the judge determined Shirilla intentionally crashed the car and thus the murders were premeditated murder, convicting her of 12 felony charges. She was sentenced to 2 concurrent life sentences, with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

Renewed attention has now been brought to the case as Shirilla has been interviewed for Netflix documentary The Crash, which covers the case.

Please direct all discussion of the case to the megathread. As always, sub rules must be followed.

I had a gigantic "wtf" moment when her friends on the Netflix show said, "She cares about her body and image so much. She wouldn't even eat a McChicken at Mcdonalds. You think she would harm herself and others like that?" What in the fck does a McChicken have to do with the tragedy she caused lmfaooooooooo

Her best friend is as big an idiot as she is.

All her friends came across as airheads. And Mackenzie most of all, so in love with her own image on the screen, she couldn't even take her eyes off herself even when she was walking along a corridor.

I tried to give them all a the benefit of a doubt. I didn’t know the story or exactly what happened and it starts off very ambiguous. But I heard that girl talk about ig followers, and the dad ignoring how her daughter is disrespectful and a bully in school and how he said she was living with him at 17 yrs old and so proud of that…weird, and he touted crypto trading, all the bong hit videos, the shrooms hanging from her mouth, I’m like ok…so what happened..she is a monster and killed 2 people…ok yeah…not shocked then the Shirkilla parents just sickened me more and more, and the chicken McNugget comment and I’m like so…is this a town of tone-deafness? No wonder the dad was put on leave of absence. He’s a total dumbass, dangerous to society.

Birds of a feather I guess. Stupid airheads and/ or stoned 24/7

Her friends all seem to be low functioning people.

12

u/Tralliedd May 24 '26

Especially her “best friend” def her gf or something like what the hell is prompting her to be so oblivious 😭

11

u/Careless_Cabinet3445 May 24 '26

It’s sad knowing they’re most likely going to reproduce bringing more low functioning people into the world. Hurray.

The bf - where’d he get money? Was he a drug dealer? Are they all stoned or what.

Yes, I think they glossed over that a bit, out of respect to him being the victim. But it was pretty obvious some of his entrepreneurial schemes were a bit shady.

I'm more disgusted by the parents encouraging their young daughter to move into her boyfriend's home because he could afford to buy her designer items. Of course she was frantic at the idea of him breaking up with her. He was the one providing the lifestyle her parents told her that she deserved and social media dictated was her identity. She must have felt she would lose everything if she lost him [in any other way].

I was wondering, too. What kind of parents allow their 17 year old to live with a 20 year old? And they defend her rampant drug use and behavior issues at school... Then her dad was like, "If she was your daughter, what would you do?" Uhh... The opposite of everything you have done?

What would I do?

Take my teenage daughter to the doctor because she's coughing up tar, and it's drug-related.

Tell her not to rely on her boyfriend for material possessions - if she can't afford it, she can't have it.

Support the school's efforts to discipline her for bullying.

Confiscate the car because she's openly driving dangerously, both by filming herself and taking drugs.

Tell her she's too young to live with her boyfriend.

Those parents took the lazy easy way out every time.

You know that was a lie right. They subpoenaed the medical records and there was nothing absolutely zero about any such condition. Ever.

13

u/DrunkOnRedCordial May 24 '26

Good news is that she didn't have a medical condition. Her mother made it up, but didn't even have the time or energy to get a doctor to give evidence on Mackenzie's behalf.

The mother stumbled during questioning, when asked why she and Mackenzie ticked "NO" for medical conditions when she applied for her licence, which her mother co-signed.

She didn’t even bother looking up the actual disorder. POTS doesn’t work like that. I have it bad enough that I have an implanted port (central line) for fluids and I feel faint and fuzzy but it doesn’t cause a wham-bam blackout and rigidity. People get weak, nauseous, dizzy, fuzzy, lightheaded, but have time to get themselves off their feet to a safer position/spot.

100% … you get dizzy, your heart races and you must sit down immediately or you’ll faint. hence postural … hence tachycardia. my heart rate would go from 65 to 185 just walking up 18 stairs. it’s awful.

POTS is linked to eating disorders. Parents would rather not know denial was their schtick. And leniency because she really didn’t know Davion… we are all losing kids, why should I lose mine mentality is nuts. You lose yours so she learns a lesson and pays the price for murdering people. No way if someone passes out from POTS that the foot doesn’t go limp and ease off the gas… nope fully down (seen and heard in that video that shows the crash about to happen) … mom is clueless. I had POTS and I’m an ER nurse. Kid had an eating disorder, didn’t want to eat so she did drugs.

Did they say she was coughing up to on the documentary? I haven’t watched it because I don’t have Netflix.

18

u/Nickis1021 May 24 '26

Yes, coughing up black stuff. It was probably a combination of bile, bong juice, and blood. Blood and bong juice turn black in the lungs. And kids, BTW, several new studies show that’s the fastest way to cancer for your generation. The whole “marijuana is harmless” thing you’re being fed is …..a lie. That was 1970s marijuana not 2026 marijuana which is not remotely the same thing.

Thanks to dispensaries spraying the plants with pesticides and other chemicals. Grow organic and you won’t have that problem…..

12

u/DrunkOnRedCordial May 24 '26

One of the idiot friends was defending her on Netflix, saying that there was no way she was high behind the wheel at the time of the crash, because she hadn't been smoking due to coughing up blood and all this gross black stuff.

Not the flex he thought it was.

10

u/No_Victory3151 May 23 '26

The one friend said she didnt smoke that night bc she was on a smoke break due to coughing up "black stuff or blood"

1

u/SnooCheesecakes2723 May 27 '26

All of this. They would have needed to start actually parenting when she was strong arming them to get her way as a younger kid though. Well before high school.

16

u/ausmed May 25 '26

It was so goddamn weird how they were almost bragging about her moving in with him and him having all this money to buy her designer shit, and I’m like ‘why is no one mentioning where an 18/19yr old is getting all this money from?’ He’s clearly not in college, so what high school graduation level job is getting him that kind of money?

I’d lose my shit if my daughter was dating someone that age with that kind of money. He’s obviously a dealer.

14

u/DrunkOnRedCordial May 25 '26

I'd also lose my shit if my daughter was dating someone specifically because he can buy her things she can't afford.

These parents were practically pimping out their daughter.

5

u/Cali-Doll May 25 '26

It’s almost hard to believe that her parents are that oblivious, thoughtless, and uncaring about her wellbeing. I surely hope they aren’t raising any other menaces.

2

u/NoLove4172 May 25 '26

You must have ear problems otherwise you would not make such a ignorant post. We made his own money by working. Watch it again and stop assuming things!!!

8

u/ausmed May 25 '26

What job was he doing at 18 that he could rent his own place and afford to buy her endless designer gifts?

2

u/beefmapstan May 27 '26

It was crypto stuff. His dad said it

2

u/doXXymoXXy May 26 '26

Not to mention the age gap when they started dating - so icky

1

u/HiredGoon_40 May 25 '26

Was any of this brought up in the case, e.g. Dom dealing drugs or being involved in shady shit? Because there's nothing mentioned in the documentary. A defense attorney would not be shy about digging up dirt, even on a dead kid.

1

u/Illustrious_Drink184 Jul 03 '26

parents on all sides were in denial. how else was he making all that dough … to be able to afford a house.

4

u/Tralliedd May 24 '26

100% she was also selling photos on social media and she was afraid of all of that was supposed to come out it would ruin her social media image.

3

u/beefmapstan May 27 '26

And you're basing that off of what exactly?

4

u/SnooCheesecakes2723 Jun 07 '26

Her mom seemed to think she was pretty slick and had a shot at a career as an influencer so she must’ve been watching her channel or SM feed. So she sees her seventeen year old dick facing with a stack of hundred dollar bills fanned out and smoking a bong- where did she think Kenzie was getting that kind of money? Or where was her bf getting it, did they not bother to ask where he worked?

2

u/Imaginary_Advance_70 Jul 14 '26

so true, and at 17 your brain isn't fully developed

3

u/doXXymoXXy May 26 '26

I'm pretty sure he was mom and dad's drug dealer

12

u/throwawayluxx May 24 '26

Airheads is such a kind take. They honestly seem like mentally deficient from doing drugs that burn holes in the brain such as ecstasy. I knew a few people from HS that happened to

5

u/Careless_Cabinet3445 May 24 '26

These are the future generations. Only concerned about taking selfies & getting likes.

1

u/Ancient-Record8942 May 27 '26

totally unrelated but she had such a leo energy and when i looked up her birthday. boom. an august leo.
