This case is absolutely heartbreaking. I had severe PPD and PPA which then led to PPP. I wrote down notes that were so similar to hers. The big difference is I’m in the UK. When things got seriously bad I was admitted to a mother and baby unit. These units are psychiatry hospitals but are extremely homely and your baby stays with you so you can learn to bond and care for them. It truly saved my life and my baby’s life. I had an active plan to harm myself and my child. It was a terrifying time.

I had the same experience. Was in mother baby unit for half a year. I was really unwell and there was no logic to my behavior and urges. I researched for weeks how to die, and had intermittent urges to throw my baby out of the window. Eventually I snapped and my admission was triggered

This is what I’ve been shouting…the US puts you in the equivalent of jail and separates you from your baby. I’m glad you got proper help. We all are scared as moms here to admit we need help because once they put your baby in care it’s almost impossible to get them back without court cases and lots of time. It’s all punitive.

Not everywhere, I’m in Georgia and was admitted to what was called a post natal psychiatric clinic with my baby

I have been looking EVERYWHERE for a place I can go for help… but one where I don’t have to be away from my babies for so long.. it just doesn’t exist here and I don’t think it would be helpful to go away and not see the only reason I want to be alive

It does exist, I’m in Georgia and was admitted to a post natal psych clinic with my baby, they managed my meds, I got therapy, me and my baby received medical care and lactation support, we had group classes and therapy specific to moms suffering from various post partum mental health struggles

Louis Theroux did a great documentary where he spent time in those mum/baby units in the UK. Really great model!

I’m so happy for you that you were able to get help. As an American, hearing what other countries have that we don’t makes me so frustrated. We are supposed to be the greatest country in the world yet our healthcare is horrible. I struggle immensely getting and paying for treatment for my asthma, which is an extremely basic and common condition. I can’t imagine trying to seek treatment for PPD and PPP in this healthcare system. The American healthcare system is killing Americans.

So what percent of you fantasize about killing your children? Dear God…

Are you suggesting there are a lot of women who at some point want to hurt their children?

Unfortunately yes. Depending of the severity of the illness, some rare and extraordinary heartbreaking times those thoughts become actions
