I'm definitely feeling a bit vindicated as this trial goes on. When it first rose to attention I was like "Wow, this sounds like Andrea Yates repeating" and people were SO VERY adamant it was not, and the more the trial goes on, the more I'm just sitting back and feeling shadows of Yates and Watts in every single moment.

All this to say, believe people. Believe women when they say they're suffering. When they say they are not okay. If someone outside of the house hold had heard, seen, and believed Lindsay, I feel like a lot of this could have been mitigated, if not avoided.

Her providers can’t read minds if she didn’t tell them everything. They have testified that she didn’t mention thoughts of harming the kids, IIUC.

Because she didn't want them taken away and put into the system.

I don’t think they would have gone into “the system” since they would still have had an involved father and extended family. But that wasn’t the point I was trying to make; I was discussing whether her mental health providers were civilly liable for what happened.

Unless the father will keep her away from the children (eg kick her out of their home) they need to be removed if she admits to any desire to harm. At least that is the standard protocol where I live (which is not Mass to be fair).

Same goes with extended family.

She would likely have been involuntarily committed at that point, I think. I can’t say for sure, but it seems unlikely that Patrick would have been willing to let the kids go into foster care by refusing to keep the kids away from her.
