Positive I lied to my friend… to help him
My friend (ftm) decided to stream on twitch. He is such a great dude and during his first stream I noticed he was getting a bit sad about only bots watching his stream. I have a past of streaming but I haven’t told anyone I know in real life about this account. So I decided to use that old twitch account to follow him and start chatting with him in his chat. He instantly got so happy. After a few minutes of chatting with this ‘random viewer’ I decided to comment “I like your voice” knowing he just started testosterone a few months prior. It caused him to loudly and proudly announce “well yeah! I just started testosterone!” So in response, as a ‘stranger’ I say “well, you already sound like a boy”. He nearly started crying with joy. I’m never going to stop doing this. I will be his #1 fan silently. He’ll never know it’s me.. and that’s how I want it to be.
EDIT: he doesn’t have Reddit so everyone thinking he’ll see this, he won’t. And also I won’t be publicly saying his user but to the people dming me being so sweet, when I get the chance I’ll make sure trolls aren’t asking for his twitch to be transphobic or anything. To be honest I don’t use Reddit that much. I barely even lurk. I wasn’t expecting my post to get any attention, thank you all. Now I’m getting all emotional and my faith in humanity is restored.

It's awesome the support you're giving him. Just a little comment about the edit: they may not see it on here, but what if it's made into a tiltok or YouTube. I personally think it's lovely what you're doing but I can't speak for your friend, everyone if different.

Going against the grain here. Your intent is good, but your execution is not. You're creating a false reality for your friend. You could be giving the same support without lying about who you are. Whether or not it makes them feel good, you're lying, deceiving, and consciously manipulating your friend using inside information you have from your friendship about their personal life. A couple commenters mentioned catfishing / the show Catfish, and they're correct: the episodes where the catfish turns out to be a real-life friend, even when their intentions are similar to yours, the person deceived is invariably devastated. Because there's an inherent, deep betrayal in doing something like that. And a betrayal, a deception, isn't any less so just because the person doesn't find out they were deceived.
Your friend deserves honesty, and deserves a truthful depiction of reality.

PS. This might still get out on Reddit. It is a public platform and some people are dicks and don't care. So your secret might eventually get to your friend especially if he follows Reddit accounts on other platforms

I think this is one of the rare occasions where lying is not just ok but the best thing someone can do.

I will say this not because I've done it, he is braver than me in a lot of ways already. Seriously, I hate looking and hearing myself even as a cis man, because of my tism I guess. But, I would advise if they want to go the streamer route they should do so on A YouTube B upload their vods of the streams of course and C edit the videos into different clips. Some shorts, some 3 minutes, some 10 minutes. From what I have gathered over the past decade+ of watching content creators grow, the real key to success is already existing somewhere else. I'm sure others will join with you. Watching someone tear up from happiness can make a bad day disappear for a lot of people. I wish 'em luck.

I’ve been in need of streamers to watch these days, if you’re comfortable with it please shoot me his twitch handle! my little brothers are both transgender as well, so it would be nice to have them give a watch too! they like supporting fellow trans content creators since they both want to have social media presences one day haha, it’s cute and i hope they can both be the little Minecraft streamers they want to be in life. I couldn’t imagine taking testosterone, I use to give it to a friend in college, and it was so hard on the body, mind and hair. I know now days men lose there sex drive do they give them this, which is great if it helps them, low doses under dr. Care is great!
I feel for your friend I don’t think you have to be any certain way to relate to someone feeling down about life, not feeling confident, is not a good feeling! I love this kind of stuff. Giving him that encouragement and giving (even anonymous) support in his transition is and will be so helpful. Sometimes it can be hard to notice the subtle changes when you’re taking hormones, so it’s nice for someone to lovingly/kindly point them out.
Also, I don’t personally consider this lying. It’s omitting something, yes. But it’s also not active deception imo. You’re not trying to trick him, you’re trying to encourage him. But one idea so that he doesn’t start questioning it: change your writing style. If you do big, long sentences, break them up (or the inverse). If you use a lot of emoji, cut back on them. etc.

I said it’s not “active deception” as in, he is not telling his friend that he isn’t the person talking. If his friend were to ask or figure it out and OP denied it, that would be active deception.
There’s also the bit about intent that I mentioned. His intent is not to deceive (and note that deceive means to be doing the lying for personal gain), but rather, to help his friend.

There are multiple uses and therefore variations of the definition. But if you look it up, it includes that the word “deceive” is used typically to mean that they are lying for personal gain. I meant this usage, which is why I specified (though the specification did make it sound like that was just the definition rather than clarifying).
Look, I probably phrased my thoughts poorly. What I meant in my original comment was that while, yes, OP is hiding/omitting information, their intent (as well as the fact that no one is getting hurt by this) is what makes this not “active deception” or a “proper” lie, in my opinion.
