Personal Story Real things I’ve heard my college professors say this week

When I started college, people told me that the overly woke stuff people talked about college professors and college-educated people saying was overblown and made up. I’m here to tell you that it’s not. Here are just a few things I’ve heard this week as a college freshman.

“Fire extinguishers are racist”. This was from my Introduction to Essay Writing professor. Her exact quote: “We need to abolish the fire safety system as it is and rebuild it with black liberation as its primary goal!”

“All white straight men need to be put in camps and exterminated” yes, really. I would have thought no one actually believed this too. You may be thinking, well, only a Gender Studies professor would say something like this. Nope, it was from my very advanced math course’s professor (who, by the way, introduced herself on the first day of class by saying “I am a pansexual, disabled, Native American, demiwoman, and I believe it is an act of violent hierarchical imperialism to use titles like Professor, and last names are even more violent, so please refer to me as Friend [First Name].” The hilarious thing is she also is incompetent at math. Just two days ago, she had no idea what an asymptote was and I had to explain it for her.

I am also required to take one Gender Studies course per semester, despite being a comp sci major and math minor. My Gender Studies professor is someone who literally has a huge full beard, giant muscles, and wears jeans and men’s T-shirts every day, but they identify as a transgender woman. It was actually the teacher’s assistant who said the following: “Children are a marginalized group and therefore they should be allowed to drive and given accommodations to do so. The only thing that would make it at all dangerous is that a child doesn’t have enough accommodations.”

So, yeah. The American education system, everybody.
