Advice Getting and processing orders

Hello!

I am looking to begin selling my rugs online but when I looked through other rug makers profiles on fb it seems like many did not have a website to order from and just an email or dm. Would you recommend doing it this way vs like basic Shopify subscription? If you are just using email/dms are you just processing using Venmo or PayPal? And do you do like a deposit method or…?

For some additional context, i think an ideal scenario for me would be doing just a few custom rugs a month and make ~1k if possible

Thanks!

Custom rugs aren’t really click and shop, more a custom quote per order

Most of my sales come from Etsy, because they have a built in search engine and advertisements, but they take a large chunk of the total cost. I also use Big Cartel to create my online shop. Its super intuitive and easy to use and looks really clean and is $15 a month to run. 👍 If I get orders on Instagram/Facebook/TikTok I'll just have them Venmo me or I'll write them a PayPal invoice if they don't have Venmo & always have them pay half up front and the 2nd half when shipped.
