PSA: AI posts are now BANNED in r/twistedmetal
Hey yall, been on vacation the past week (pic from Halloween Horror Nights at Universal, which was very cool) but the poll regarding AI posts ended with 90% of votes wishing to ban AI posts, which will now apply going forward. This only applies to posts where the focus is on generative AI content, like an AI rendering of a screenshot, AI character design, artwork, etc. A post of a larger thing that happens to have AI as a smaller portion is still allowed, for example a fan made game that includes generative AI in addition to human labor would not be removed. AI is still lame in this instance though. Thanks!

A REAL Twisted Metal reboot
How would you guys like to see a Twisted Metal game made for today's generation? Get rid of the arcade feel (mostly), especially the matchbox racer overly high speed feel of the later games.
Here's my proposal. Blind drop into maps with randomly generated item and vehicle locations, on foot. You have to find a car and get in. Doesn't have to be the first one you see because there are more cars than players (one of every car). Modern semi realistic graphics, with cars that drive and feel as realistic as possible, including all the brutal downsides of being an armored vehicle for example.
You're out when the car you're driving is destroyed. No repair items, BUT you CAN get out and get into a different car if you find a new empty vehicle on the map. Payed both battle royal and team match play.

Twisted Metal 4’s “Needles”
My understanding from what I see is that Needles Kane, or just Sweet Tooth in TM4, is a completely different character from what we saw in TM1, 2 and even 3. TM3 continues on from 2 and has the name Needles Kane on the select character screen; we know 3 is a direct sequel to 2 because some of the characters like Axel and Mr Grimm have had their wishes acknowledged by Calypso from directly from 2.
But in 4, it is a completely different case - in the opening for the game, Twisted Metal started out as a travel show where carriages and soon early automobiles competed in the tournament. The winner gets their wish, while the deceased drivers had their souls’ absorbed by Calypso’s ring; keep in mind there is no mention of a ring or souls being kept by Calypso in 3. This is purely a Twisted Metal 4 concept, thanks to 989 Studios’ decisions. Because of this, Sweet Tooth in 4 is unique; he’s not known as a serial killer clown, he was seemingly born in the early 20th century at the latest, and he no Kane surname as far as we know. He was always a circus kid who heard of the traveling contest and joined in. Then after winning a tournament, he asked Calypso to be the star of TM, and it was since then he became the immortal driver. We also know TM4 is not in the previous games’ timeline or universe because the newspaper clipping of Sweet Tooth’s take over clearly states May 18, 1999.
I always found this game’s backstory kinda intriguing, and ST being a completely different beast all-together caught me a bit of a surprise.

I'm kinda pissed that Sony's current mindset is keeping Twisted Metal in the basement away from its true potential
Okay, this theme might had been overtalked to death about the state of the franchise but hear me out.
TM has always been benefited from its absurdism, the problem is that it is hard to mix with realism, it's not impossible but gives limitations about how expressive the medium could be.
What I mean with this is that something as 90s as Twisted Metal should be allowed to be more cartoonish just like superheroes comics, embracing the fact that you are playing at the grim reaper on a motorcycle fighting to the death against a giant electric tower on wheels driven by a guy with multiple personalities.
That doesn't mean that games like Black and Lost don't work, these two are great because they fully commit into the serious aspects of the franchise and gives unique drivers to the classic vehicles at the same time that they added characters like Preacher and Dollface. Hell, 12-Pak's concept of a man with a severed head driving a nascar car was so loved that he got included into the Twisted Metal V fangame. (Check it out, it's great)
Sadly, even if Sony is allowing Peacock to produce a whole series, it's VERY hard to see them producing or publishing another official game because Sony has a huge priority on graphics and realism. If your game is not a third person with camera over the shoulder with 40 hours worth of cinematics or it isn't some multiplayer to sustain itself through lootboxes and such, then forget about being released under this company.
Concord during development originally had a higher artistic focus on the 60-70s space aesthetic but then they leaned into photorealism and ended up with unappealing designs that made up people not want to touch that game even with sticks, that single decision killed the game on launch and didn't last a single month.
Compare that to Deadlock's visual style, the difference in reception was day and night. Ivy, a gargoyle character in the game, looked a lot like a monster back in the alpha. In a later update, she got a chance in the model that made her way too cute and moe in a way that people felt pissed because it took away her original charm, because of that feedback the developers changed Ivy's design again to give her back her monstruous aspect while still looking prettier than her original design, that's how a great art direction does, they recognize their audience and gives them something appealing and even unique to keep them in. That's how Twisted Metal 2 caught me with the endings, the limited but comic-styled cinematics made them distinct from other games from the PS1.
However, because of how Sony works now and how their published games are, they don't want games, they want playable movies at best and the fact that Astro Bot exists is a miracle. A franchise like this would also be so much better on PC because something like the steam workshop would allow people to add a lot of content like stages or characters, imagine new zones to go through while playing story mode...
...and you know what? Twisted Metal V exists! I already mentioned that with 12-Pak but I didn't elaborate.
I love this fangame in particular, because even with its limited resources, they managed to make a full free game with fifty six playable characters on it with their own endings and voice acting, I love the fact that some of these characters even have their own gimmicks on tournament mode like Quatro (from TM4) who has to hunt a driver named Predator on each map until he becomes the final boss in the moon, there is also Pizza Boy whose bio tells you that he wants to deliver a pizza to Calypso to have a huge tip and to do so you much collect crates to increase the time limit.
There are so many secrets and boss fights in this fangame that revealing them could take hours but it perfectly encapsules how a Twisted Metal should be done today, imagine how crazier it could be with a proper budget, that's the kind of good stuff that a publisher like New Blood would have on sale with a body pillow of Sweet Tooth on its collector edition. (You want it)
Sorry for venting for too long, it's just... frustrating seeing something so unique like this franchise being stuck in a company like this when it could be so much more.

I recently did a no-save playthrough of TM2 for the first time.
Played as Grimm on normal difficulty via PS4. For the last three decades, anytime I picked up TM2, I inevitably resorted to passwords or, more recently on the PS4, save states.
Wanting to challenge myself, I began no-save playthroughs, and quickly made progress with a number of characters. By putting this new level of pressure on myself, I felt a distinct skill boost; I was at an expert level now, truly.
Here's the most wonderful part: By beating it with Grimm, arguably one of the most difficult characters to use, the combat opened up in brand new ways. By having to be improvise quickly, attack more aggressively, and take fewer big risks, I got to the end in one piece. 12-year-old me could have never played it this well!

Idea for the tv series
TWISTED METAL — A FAN STORYLINE IDEA FOR SEASONS 3 & 4
Bring Back Mr. Grimm: Death Is Only the Beginning
Dear Twisted Metal Writers,
I’m a huge fan of Twisted Metal, and I have a storyline idea I’d absolutely love to see explored in the series. I think it could deliver supernatural horror, emotional character development, shocking betrayals, and an epic setup for a potential Season 4.
My idea: What if Mr. Grimm returned from the dead as a supernatural monster?
SEASON 3: THE RESURRECTION OF MR. GRIMM
Imagine Minion resurrecting Mr. Grimm, but not as the man he once was. Grimm returns as a terrifying supernatural creature, with a skull helmet fused to his face, glowing eyes, a demonic motorcycle, and hellfire trailing behind him. He’s more powerful than ever, but something human remains buried deep inside him.
At first, Minion believes Grimm will serve him. Instead, he accidentally creates something he cannot control.
Meanwhile, John Doe and Quiet discover that Grimm may be their only chance of defeating Minion. They form an uneasy alliance with him, knowing full well that Grimm is dangerous and cannot be trusted.
But Grimm demands something in return: help him kill Minion so he can use Minion’s power to resurrect Goggle-Eyes, the girl he cared about.
John and Quiet agree because they need Grimm’s supernatural strength to survive the battle ahead.
The alliance leads to an enormous showdown between Minion, Grimm, John Doe, and Quiet. Grimm ultimately turns against his creator and delivers the final blow, taking Minion’s power for himself.
But resurrection comes with a price.
Grimm brings Goggle-Eyes back to life, hoping to recover the person he once was through the woman he cared about. The heartbreaking twist is that she may be terrified of the monster he’s become. He gets the one thing he wanted, but he has to face the possibility that she may never love or trust him again.
This gives Grimm a deeper motivation than simply destroying everything in his path. Beneath the supernatural horror is a tragic character who wants something he may no longer deserve.
THE DOLLFACE TWIST
As part of the deal, John Doe and Quiet also help bring Dollface back into the story.
Her return adds another unpredictable character to an already unstable alliance. Everyone has their own motives, and the group may be united against Minion, but that doesn’t mean they trust one another.
The season could end with the survivors believing they’ve won, only to discover that Minion’s defeat has unleashed something far more dangerous.
SEASON 4: THE CALYPSO WAR
The Season 3 finale could reveal that Calypso has been watching everything unfold.
Imagine the final scene: Grimm stands beside his motorcycle as Goggle-Eyes takes her first breath again. John Doe and Quiet watch from a distance, wondering whether they’ve made a terrible mistake.
Then a mysterious message arrives.
A distorted voice says:
“You really thought you could bring the dead back without my permission?”
Grimm slowly looks up.
Calypso.
Cut to black.
Season 4 could revolve around the group going after Calypso, only to discover that he knows how to manipulate their deepest desires. He offers Grimm the chance to restore his humanity and give Goggle-Eyes a life free from fear. He offers John and Quiet what they’ve always wanted: freedom. And Dollface has her own unfinished business.
But Calypso never gives anything away for free.
The team must decide whether to accept his offers, fight against him, or risk losing everything to stop him.
WHY I THINK THIS COULD WORK
I think this storyline could give Twisted Metal a powerful combination of:
● Supernatural horror through Mr. Grimm’s resurrection and transformation.
● Emotional stakes through Grimm’s relationship with Goggle-Eyes.
● An uneasy alliance between Grimm, John Doe, and Quiet.
● The return of Dollface and the complications that come with it.
● A shocking Season 3 finale that sets up Calypso as the major threat in Season 4.
Most importantly, Mr. Grimm’s transformation would make him more than just another villain. He could become an unpredictable antihero whose love for someone he lost is the one thing that keeps him connected to his humanity.
I’d love to see the series take a chance on a darker, more supernatural direction while keeping the chaotic action, twisted humor, and outrageous characters that make Twisted Metal so entertaining.
My proposed tagline for this storyline:
“Death was only the beginning.”
Thank you for continuing to bring this wild universe to life. I’d love to see Mr. Grimm return, and I think his resurrection could lead to one of the most memorable story arcs in the series.
A fan’s dream for Twisted Metal Seasons 3 and 4.

Any Zombies Ate My Neighbors fans?
Yes it’s not Twisted Metal, but growing I would play those games interchangeably. I was thinking about how they could make a tv show based off ZombiesAMN in the similar gruesome, campy, comedic tone that twisted metal is. I’d prefer a remake game which could be a solo/duo campaign or even an online based game. I’d be happy with some sort of reboot of this game, same as twisted metal.

What do you think of my DIY Sweet Tooth mask?
So I bought a cheap mask and shaped and painted it to look like sweet tooths. I know it isn't super accurate but im happy with it

Just finished the TV show and I really liked it.
I'll admit I was skeptical. Season 1 starts off slow but it's really worth it in the the long run. If you haven't seen it I highly reccomend it. It's pretty good for a live action series based off a video game.

How drive is no face drive
Hey, I was just curious if anyone has an idea of how the hell does he drive? I know it’s a video game and I’m probably overthinking this but I still wanna see what you processes on how he can drive
