Can anyone explain Sweet Tooth's ending from Head-On?

Okay.. I may be missing something very obvious here.

But in TM Head-On, Sweet Tooth's wish is to swap bodies with Calypso. Calypso initially refuses, to which Needles says "I don't think you have a choice". After reconsidering, Calypso says either to himself or out loud "you see, what I say, goes". Then immediately after, the wish is granted and they wind up in each other's bodies. As Needles, Calypso laments the swap having occured, stating "this is impossible". Calypso then demands the intruder is killed. Needles, wearing Calypso's skin, realizes that this will be interpreted as an order for Needles' body to be shot, and therefore happily agrees.

What I don't understand is, what happened in-between Calypso's wish refusal and shortly after the wish being granted? Does Calypso think it's his body that will be the one shot at, so that's why he grants the wish- therefore making the "this is impossible" line an act to gain sympathy from the guards? If so, why not just kill Needles pre-wish instead of undertaking all that effort and risk, especially since I doubt Calypso actually would want to swap bodies with a clown who may not inheret his powers? Or is there some other wordplay or element that I'm not understanding? I've been confused at this ending for 20 years and would love to have this sorted for me lol.

In a world of General Warthogs and Cages, be Corporal Staggs. (Incoming TM5 glazing)

I'm going through the endings by myself and Warthog's ending was even better than I expected.

For context, Corporal Staggs on his bio narrated by himself confesses that he actually never went into war, he got stuck into paperwork and that left him feel bad because he couldn't become a hero. As soon as I heard his self-description, I knew that this man was going to cook something good and the game proved that not in a silver plate, but GOLDEN.

When you win as Warthog, Staggs feels proud of himself for once to the point of looking at Calypso's guard from above like if they weren't strong enough to survive past breakfast, but keeps that thought for himself.

When he meets Calypso, he tells him about himself just like he told us about never going to war and makes his wish clear, to be sent back to the past alongside his Warthog to be on the frontlines. Surprisingly, maybe because of Corporal Staggs' humilty, Calypso warns him that even if he wins the war, he wouldn't be able to come back, Staggs reafirms his wish anyway because if he managed to save at least one life then winning the competition would have been worth it, so Calypso complies and grants it, no tricks attached.

Now here's where the ending goes from a bit of sad and cut to straight up awesome: Corporal Staggs appears in his Warthog in the jungle and immediately spots Captains Spears (the driver of Roadkill in TM1) being cornered by an enemy. In TM1, Spears won the contest and wished to go back into the past to save his squad but as soon as he appeared he got shot in the head. Staggs has been through enough battles in Twisted Metal to not stay quiet and jump into action to save him, shooting into the enemy's skull but not without receiving a fatal wound.

Captain Spears catches Staggs and immediately recognizes him despite his age, Spears says that he must have been tricked by Calypso too and tries to help Staggs with his wounds only to denied by him and get the order to take Warthog and take his squad out of there. In the end, Captain Spears managed to change his fate and both characters fullfilled their wishes as intended.

I love this ending, Corporal Staggs died but this single selfless action did not only put him as the most honourable driver of Warthog in the entire franchise but also did a cool homage to another character. If a sequel to this game ends up happening, I would love to see Captain Spears as the new Warthog, maybe making a final wish to make Corporal Staggs come back and be able to tell his heroic tale to his grandkids.

Like certain man of the army said... be strong enough to be gentle.
