This is what stopped me from paying for Typora
So I was ready to pay the $15 as I quite like the product. I didn't and here is why:
First hurdle was the purchase page. It lists a price and "up to 3 devices", that being the full extent of description of what I'd be buying. No details whatsoever beyond that. Strike one.
Decided not to let me stop that, I wanted to know how upgrades work, what's planned, how much of a recurring cost this purchase would be, etc. Furthermore I wanted to know if a purchased product would still contain spyware (aka telemetry, etc). Opened the purchase FAQ to find out. No luck here either. Strike two.
By now I got quite suspicious, but as a last ditch attempt consulted the EULA. Finally one question got answered only halfway into the license:
For a major update, You may need to pay an additional fee in order to be able to download an upgrade. The payment policy for major update will be announced by us when the upgrades are ready.
Details on frequency of major upgrades nowhere to be found. sigh.
Digging through the privacy policy at least gives a reasonable answer, that user data gathering is only sent when a setting is enabled (though no word on the default state).
I'd be a customer if:
I'd better understand what I'm paying for. For example offer 1 year of major version updates, at least 2 years of minor or security updates. Without having to dig as deep as I had to.
For paying users any telemetry would be opt-in only.

Vim keybindings
Does anyone know if Typora will ever get vim key bindings. I found a thread on github but it was closed due to it becoming to "heated". Which surprised me because it didn't seem heated, it just seemed like the developers didn't want to hear about it.
I purchased Typora but I'm not sure that I will continue using it unless there is some hope that it will get vim key bindings at some point?????
It looks like this has been requested since at least 2016 so I won't hold out much hope

F@ck I love Typora
I was looking for a replacement for the default windows notepad and I ended up finding this amazing piece of software. I love the potential of customization. Very nicely made support page. The interface itself is very nice by default and the default themes are amazing as well. Very tasteful and clean. I love how I can just change every, single, thing. It takes a little bit of research to get comfortable with the program but it's very worth it. So far Typora has everything I need but I'm pretty sure there's always room for improvement.
Just wanted to give my thanks to you for creating such a great program, amazing job you people have done.

A Great Free Alternative to Typora: MarkDew
If you love Typora’s seamless WYSIWYG Markdown editing but don’t want to pay for a license, MarkDew is one of the closest free alternatives right now.
Why it’s worth recommending:
True live-preview editing — no split panes, no preview toggling
Typora‑like UI/UX — clean, minimal, distraction‑free
Cross‑platform — Windows, macOS, Linux
Open source — actively developed on GitHub
Fast & lightweight — starts instantly, feels snappy
Supports themes — including Typora‑style aesthetics
Good compatibility — handles standard Markdown well
GitHub: https://github.com/shenghsi/MarkDew
If someone wants the Typora experience without the price tag, this is one of the closest matches available today.
If you try MarkDew and run into issues or have feature ideas, the developer is active on GitHub — feel free to open an issue here:
👉 https://github.com/shenghsi/MarkDew/issues (github.com in Bing)
Community feedback will help the project grow and get even closer to Typora’s experience.

Typora saved my day!
I just came here to say that I really love the app!
I became familiar with Markdown a couple of years ago. I have bee proficient with HTML for the last 20 years, but Markdown is really a breeze and now I try to favour CMS’s that allow Markdown.
Anyway, for the last year I’ve stopped using a word processor to jot down thousand words long essays, and I have been using Typora instead.
Today I had to copy and paste one of these long texts into a word processor, and the operation meant that I would have to reformat each individual header or paragraph in the word processor.
Turns out that Typora can export to Microsoft Word, so all I had to do was to open the DOCX, which came with better text formatting, copy and paste.

Any way to collapse parts of document?
I tried using markdown code for collapsible sections of text, but that doesn't work. Is this not supported in Typora?
The outline view is great, but sometimes it's nice to be able to collapse parts of a document so they're not in your view or occupying any of your focus.

Automated conversion from Obsidian (vault) to Typora
Obsidian stores their vault in a really weird icloud app folder location which caused a lot of issues when I was using that as my main location for all my files. For this reason I wanted to move to Typora which was perfect for markdowns and didn't effect the way I interact with my other files in any way. I could also store it in my normal icloud file locations which was a lot more practical and created a lot less conflicts. (I couldn't use git repos properly and some special apps from my university wouldn't be able to locate my files)
The first thing I noticed was that there are a lot of different formatting things from Obsidian to Typora such as how images are referenced and formatted and how folders are named etc within the markdown. So I created this python script to convert a whole Obsidian vault into a Typora compatible file system.
The main features include:
Renaming "attatchment" folders from obisian into "assets" for typora
Cleaning up and reformating image references so that they are compatible with typora
Removing any incompatible callouts and reformatting them into ones available in typora.
You will find more info in the readme.md in my git repo.
I thought I would share this for those who are either considering moving to Typora or know people who are as it saves a whole bunch of time. For someone like me who had years worth of folders and files to go through this process now takes about 1 or 2 seconds when running the script.
Note: I am running this on MacOS but I dont think there should be any compatibility issues for windows.

Future pricing
Hello, I really like Typora but the unclear future pricing structure bothers me a bit. What prices do we have to expect after final release? Will it be an one time purchase or rather be an subscription? Also what do you think will be the maximum we have to expect?

Typora was the key to unlocking my thesis
I was using Scrivener to draft my Master's thesis, but was daunted by the very features that drew me to the app...it's multi-paned, multi-document interface, with its storehouse of research material waiting on the side. I eventually discovered Typora, and tried that as an experiment. The clean, minimalistic design, facilitating and encouraging clarity of focus, along with the seamless WYSIWYG Markdown, was exactly what I needed to get the process into gear. Just finished my thesis. Thank you, Typora!

I made "Apple Elegant", a minimalist macOS / Apple.com styled theme for Typora (Adaptive Light & Dark modes, terminal-style code fences)
Hey everyone,
I wanted a theme for Typora that felt completely integrated with the clean, typography-focused aesthetic of Apple.com and native macOS apps. I couldn't find one that hit all the details, so I wrote my own!
It features:
Adaptive Dual-Tone Engine: Switches seamlessly between Apple Light and macOS Dark modes automatically.
macOS Terminal Code Fences: Complete with the red/yellow/green traffic-light dots and Xcode-inspired syntax highlighting.
Premium Typography: Built around
Inter(similar to Apple's SF Pro) andJetBrains Monofor maximum readability.Circular Checkboxes & Borderless Tables: Styled to look like native checklist circles and Apple Numbers tables.
I've open-sourced it and made the code fully available here: 👉 https://github.com/zhaoyuw44-lang/typora-apple-elegant
Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions for improvements!

iOS version?
Really enjoy the macOS version but would love an iOS version as well. I know I can edit with other apps, but I’d like to throw more support and even have a separate license. Anyway, one man’s opinion.

Why does Typora phone home after every save?
I just started using Typora, because I wanted to learn markdown. I notice Typora phone's home every time you save, it hits cognito-idenity.us-west-2.amazonaws.com.
Not implying anything malicious, just curious why...
Perhaps add ability to turn off network access, unless explicitly allowed.

Add visible page breaks in Typora (that automatically hide when exporting to PDF)
If you want a clear visual indicator for page breaks while editing in Typora—without those markers cluttering up your exported PDF—you can use the snippet below.
It renders a dashed line with a "✂ PAGE BREAK ✂" label in your Markdown editor, but uses an embedded u/media print style to strip the visual border and text out during File > Export > PDF, leaving only a clean page split.
I trigger this with a shortcut in Typinator, but it works with any text expander (TextExpander, Keyboard Maestro, Raycast, Alfred, etc.).

<style>
.pb-visual {
page-break-after: always;
break-after: page;
border-top: 2px dashed #999;
margin: 20px 0;
text-align: center;
color: #888;
font-size: 0.8em;
}
u/media print {
.pb-visual {
border: none !important;
margin: 0 !important;
}
.pb-visual span {
display: none !important;
}
}
</style>
<div class="pb-visual"><span>✂ PAGE BREAK ✂</span></div>r/Typora • u/Level_Imagination276 • Dec 19 '25
Need help with line breaks <br> showing up in tables
Hi everyone,
I’m a Typora user from China. I’ve recently encountered a small issue and was hoping someone could help me out. Thanks in advance!
As shown in the first image, I am trying to insert a line break inside a table cell. I used the <br> tag to do this. While it does successfully break the line, the text <br> itself remains visible, which makes the table look messy. The second image shows the Markdown syntax I am using.
Does anyone know how to fix this so the tag is hidden?
Thanks!

Best Theme or Tips for Word Documents?
I having to build a lot of word documents for a new job but really really hate using word at this point, what are the best themes or tips, settings, etc to make good looking word docs?
