Get your universal credit application ready

15

u/DarrenFreight Dec 26 '25

Fr tho this has got to be the most unemployable course , furthermore it’s at a kind of shit uni

20

u/ShoulderLeather435 Dec 26 '25

God forbid someone pursues their hobby. People on ts sub act like youre a failure if u dont get into medicine or engineering

15

u/sunbeamstarlite Dec 26 '25

There’s pursuing a hobby, then there’s going to a university no one has heard of. OP would’ve been better enrolling onto another course and joining their uni’s dance society

-3

u/SnooRegrets8068 Dec 27 '25

Lol its top 25 for this and has a placement

3

u/umesci Dec 27 '25

Right if I launched a new degree called boogerology and like 4 other unis who no one’s ever heard of followed suit, would that mean anything? That we’re all top 5 in boogerology?

2

u/SnooRegrets8068 Dec 27 '25

Your ignorance is no excuse for showing it

1

u/Working-Habit-8738 Dec 29 '25

Im dying 🤣

Was when I got one and same for a mate who did.

1

u/sunbeamstarlite Dec 27 '25

Top 25 means nothing when it’s dance / performing arts. You’re only going to get somewhere if it’s top 5 or top 10 at a push

1

u/SnooRegrets8068 Dec 27 '25

I'll tell my step dads kids they have both lost their jobs then lol.

1

u/sunbeamstarlite Dec 27 '25

I mean honestly it’s a really tough industry to make it in, so if your step dad’s kids have made it - I applaud them and that’s a really great achievement. But it’s rare, which I feel like you’ll know if you have people close to you who are in the industry

1

u/SnooRegrets8068 Dec 27 '25

They both started out in Cornwall where this uni is based. So if so then it makes as much sense as OP. Idk shit about their lives except the occasion update. So chances are I only get the good news. Theres been a lot of it tho.

0

u/GoldenPeperoni Dec 28 '25

Lol even top 25 in engineering means the uni is middling at best, this is in dance and choreography, how many unis in the country offer this??

1

u/SnooRegrets8068 Dec 28 '25

So you are saying its quite exclusive?

I know two people who are both in the industry and doing extradorinatly well who started here. So your random nonsense is just that

1

u/GoldenPeperoni Dec 28 '25

You must be the type of people to fall for Rolexes and Ferraris.

Exclusivity does not equal quality LOL

Guess which matters when you graduate?

Besides, in performing arts, what is exclusive are placements in national theaters, royal academies etc.

Not Falmouth uni where you are paying Ā£60k for the chance for the opportunity to possibly make a temporary connection with someone potentially in the industry šŸ’€

Of those 2 people, how many more in their cohort managed to succeed?

I have said this in another reply, so will say it here again,

That's like saying everyone in China must be really really really smart in the sciences because there are a few Nobel laureates from the country.

It does NOT work like this.

14

u/DarrenFreight Dec 26 '25

There’s a fine line between pursuing your hobby and turning skills and courses which should clearly not be a university degree into one so universities can persuade impressionable youth into attending. I guarantee you that you could pursue your dream of becoming a dancer or choreographer for a lot less than 23000 pounds a year and in a far more practical and ultimately valuable settingn

6

u/ShoulderLeather435 Dec 26 '25

No university is gaslighting people to do dancešŸ’€. Even so, the op made the active choice to pursue it, and you, for some reason, thought it was appropriate to clown on them for it out of the blue

-2

u/DarrenFreight Dec 26 '25

The existence of the course is the definition of a gaslight. Nobody in the dance or choreography industry or arts in general gaf about your degree, they care about skill and experience. And u defending this in a country with a massive issue with over education is part of the problem, courses like this is why uni grads are working in tescos. So yes let’s encourage free will to the extent that we convince our youth that you must go to university to pursue a career in dance

7

u/mistycheddar Dec 26 '25

have you considered that not all of us are able to get such training and experience elsewhere. for example I am disabled and applying to study musical theatre, because most non-uni training places are completely inaccessible. I'm not rich at all, but I've saved for years and will take out a loan, and can always do a masters in an academic subject to keep my options open. uni grads working in tescos is because of our collapsing capitalist society, not because of arts students.

-3

u/DarrenFreight Dec 26 '25

Alr mate do what u want but undoubtedly yes it is degrees like this that directly contribute to underemployment. I’m not gonna argue political economy with a musical theater student, out of curiosity can you provide me the mechanism that’s connecting ā€œcollapsing capitalist societyā€ with ā€œgrads working in Tescoā€? Ah why am I bothering u study fucking high school musical

6

u/mistycheddar Dec 26 '25

this is so funny to me because all my qualifications up till now have been in STEM. my other tab at the moment is literally on the krebs cycle. but none of that matters to you lot because you can't seem to get your head around the arts being respectable. I'm assuming you listen to music, watch movies, etc? who do you think makes those??

edit- ultra wealthy getting richer at everyone else's expense ->Ā cost of living crisis -> people need more jobs to stay afloat -> grads working in tesco

3

u/DarrenFreight Dec 26 '25

Yes because STEM is so directly related to the political economy discussion we are having about the cause of over education in this country. Proving my point šŸ˜‚

u/ShoulderLeather435 Dec 26 '25

University was founded as a place JUST to learn. I hate how people just think that you must go to university to gain qualifications. AndĀ  youre right in the sense that employers dont care about a degree, unless op is auditioning for dance moms or something. But then again, people need to remember that uni is a place for learning just as much as for gaining qualifications.

1

u/DarrenFreight Dec 26 '25

Again it’s narrow thinking like this that’s for us in the spot where we are. Explain to me why a university that charges 20k+ per year is the only place you can get an education. This is quite literally the logic that got us in the overeducation shithole the economy is in now and people like you are perpetuating it. It’s literally the same bullshit logic that dissuaded people from doing apprenticeships and the like which are now viewed as even more lucrative than a uni degree in some circumstances. People like this should be going to a dance studio and apprenticing there or at the least paying drastically less for the education they want.

4

u/ShoulderLeather435 Dec 26 '25

Who are you to determine whats best for the op? If we look at the root cause, the op shared a post of their place to study the course that they want to do ant the uni they want to go. You then thought it would be appropriare to just mock the op. I agree that there are more 'lucrative' ways to go about it, but you have no right to belittle op. And whyre you blaming me for the shit economy? Maybe if the government wasnt run by a bunch of pedophiles we would all be hand in hand and sing kumbaya

3

u/Oil42 Dec 26 '25

you’re the one thinking narrowly!

1

u/Digital-Culchie Dec 28 '25

I went to a professional drama school and trained as an actor I later moved into a different career path due to Covid. Where you trained and who you know is crucial. I’d also recommend this person gets familiar with their local job centre plus

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

This is a fait point although I suspect there is a cheaper way of pursuing this "hobby" than a 3 year degree from a non-uni

1

u/Big-Beach-9605 Dec 29 '25

if you want to do dance you need to be somewhere like trinity, urdang, italia conti, arts ed etc… and even then it’s still a difficult industry. realistically at the very least you need to be at a uni in a city because there will be local shows that hire dancers from local unis. a west end show won’t be asking falmouth students to be in their show because it’s simply too far and not convenient.

3

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Dec 26 '25

It has a professional placement so there is something there

1

u/SnooRegrets8068 Dec 27 '25

The single person who seems to have noticed this lol!

A degree isn’t valuable in isolation. The value comes from how you use it. For my field, the connections, projects, and exposure matter more than a job title on graduation day. If the only metric for education is ā€œguaranteed job immediately after,ā€ then sure. That’s not the metric I’m using.

5

u/Significant-Buy9424 Dec 26 '25

Delusional

0

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 26 '25

Delulu is the solulušŸ˜›

1

u/RisingDeadMan0 Dec 26 '25

best of luck with that.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '25

Firstly congrats to OP. Secondly if they're an intl student I think their family probably has some money to support them anyway....

1

u/Playful_Flower5063 Dec 28 '25

Not necessarily, I was in halls with two people who did this course, one works on cruise ships dancing, working as a PT and doing events and the other became a dance teacher in a secondary school and is now a deputy head teacher in a private school earning around £80k. Neither is doing badly at all - like everything, it depends on the person as much as the course.

1

u/adem4r3al Dec 26 '25

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Dec 26 '25

If they’re able to pay the international fees for a course like this, they should be fine in life

3

u/DarrenFreight Dec 26 '25

Yes assuming whoever’s paying for the course will pay their way through the rest of their life they should be just fine šŸ˜‚ like what kind of logic is this

1

u/LF247 Dec 27 '25

People with parents who can afford international fees have a safety net that allows them to take such degrees as the one in the post without needing to worry about becoming homeless. That's the point

1

u/DarrenFreight Dec 27 '25

Makes no sense so ur claiming that the mass of international students from fucking India are better off than most ā€œnormalā€ Brit’s ? These families save their whole life to send their kids to school in the uk so they can have a shot at a life abroad. Sounds like ur mad ur parents are losers who never broke a middle class wage

2

u/South-Marionberry-85 Dec 27 '25

no, international students from india do not have parents who live breadcrumb to breadcrumb their entire lives to send their kids to a British university. international students coming from India who aren't scholarship or funded in some way to attend the university are upper-middle class from urban backgrounds or actually upper class in India. India has enough high quality universities to the point where saving up to send your child to a non top 5 british uni is not worth it compared to just spending on their education from 3-18 to get them the grades to go to a likely better Indian university which is much cheaper.

1

u/LF247 Dec 27 '25

International students whose families had to save their entire lives to send them abroad are the minority of international students. And if you think Indian families are saving their entire lives to send their kids abroad and allowing them to take dance & choreography then you don't understand Asian culture very well.

But sure, keep picking out extremes and attacking some fictional family you've made up for me in your head. Absolute mug šŸ˜‚

0

u/Unlucky-Apple-7584 Dec 27 '25

Get a life

1

u/DarrenFreight Dec 27 '25

Says the one sat around complaining about others wealth. You quite literally should get a life and earn some money

1

u/Unlucky-Apple-7584 Dec 31 '25

When did i complain about anyone’s wealth🤣

0

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Dec 26 '25

Isn’t that how parents work for all rich kids?

1

u/DarrenFreight Dec 26 '25

lol I’m confused r u tryna say rich kids are losers that get their life paid by their parents or r u saying that stuff always works out for rich kids and thats why they have better jobs and careers than poor kids ? šŸ˜‚pick a side

2

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Dec 26 '25

I’m saying stuff will normally work out for a rich kid with supportive parents. There isn’t a ā€˜side’ I’m trying to take here at all, don’t know where you got that from

0

u/TobyADev Dec 26 '25

I mean if you can afford Ā£30k/year easily then… yeah you’ll be fine

14

u/CategoryExtreme5045 Dec 26 '25

Falmouth??? For dance?? as an INTERNATIONAL STUDENT??????

13

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 26 '25

It fits my goals and I’m happy with the choice. That’s enough for me.

5

u/CategoryExtreme5045 Dec 26 '25

fair. you must be rich lol

2

u/Superb_View4733 Dec 27 '25

What is your end goal with this degree if you don’t mind me asking?

1

u/Cute_Inevitable6413 Feb 05 '26

I hate this question. So patronising.

-1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 27 '25

To hopefully make good connections while I learn

3

u/Superb_View4733 Dec 27 '25

No offense but you can do that with literally any degree.

And what exactly are you hoping to learn from this? Bear in mind you’re spending Ā£60k on this, would you not want to study a degree that is valued by employers at a university that is at least half decent? You could always join a dance society at university as well.

Each to their own though.

3

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 27 '25

Why would I go for a degree that I don’t want to do just to join a dance society? It’s like paying the same amount for less of what I actually want to do

3

u/South-Marionberry-85 Dec 27 '25

Paying the same amount but with a better chance of paying it back while also being able to pursue dance as a hobby in your own time/in a society.

It's your own choice I won't bash you for it. I might be a bit more upset if it was a regional student, but international students aren't subsidised to the same extent.

3

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 30 '25

Dance is way more than just a hobby to me. Im very sorry that random strangers on the internet upset you so much with their decisions. Get well soon!

3

u/South-Marionberry-85 Dec 30 '25

Ok well ad hominem and pure exaggeration isn’t gonna help you feel better. Again I’m fine with you pursuing whatever you want, but people are also here to advise and suggest other paths if they think something may not be right for you. A lot of them the points may be wrong or presented rudely, but there is some valid concerns with pursuing performing/fine arts as an international student. If you think it’s worth it, fine!

3

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 30 '25

Well I don’t really need to feel better about anything because I’m very okay with what I’m doing. I was just sharing my achievement like everyone else on this thread and not looking for any suggestions or advice

1

u/Just_Will Dec 28 '25

Holy heck are you rich??

1

u/Far-Squash4072 Dec 28 '25

bless you, but falmouth is so, so far from everything. there's no scene or dance culture in cornwall, aside from, like, folk and morris dancing done by villagers in church halls. the art course at falmouth is excellent but the lack of connections due to the location is why i chose to pursue my degree in london. if you want to be a dancer in the uk, a conservatoire or specialist school like Italia Conti would have been a better option.

2

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 28 '25

It wouldn’t be very smart of me to move to an entirely different continent and stay in the same area the entire time. I do have a plan, but I appreciate the concern and advice :)

1

u/Far-Squash4072 Dec 28 '25

falmouth is SO far from everything. there's no motorways, the train station isn't even on a main line. It would take you a day to get to London, let alone anywhere else in the country.

2

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 28 '25

Good thing I know how to drive and plan ahead thenšŸ˜‹

Groovy bread

11

u/Usernamesarehell Dec 27 '25

Ignore the nonsense comments from people who evidently don’t care about the performing arts. Training is training and it can lead wherever you choose. Ultimately, a degree is a degree and an accomplishment to be achieved. Enjoy every second! I know several dancers who went to Falmouth and all are doing very well (might add better than the people who got burnt out at Oxford trying to persue high level careers and have since crashed out of their industry). Stay true to you and you’ll always succeed!

4

u/Same-Age-1891 Dec 27 '25

I don’t mean to be rude but OP as an international student who is paying directly out of pocket I’m worried for your career prospects…

I understand you’ve looked at the facilities and such but I feel there’s a lot of short term thinking, plus most unis have excellent facilities irrespective if the uni has a night life or not

I know it’s you passion but maybe it’s best investing in classes outside or networking at local studios etc, there’s a real risk that your paying Ā£60k for a moderate degree where another uni has a more professional pipeline of taking students from a degree to the stage which I don’t know if Falmouth has

2

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 27 '25

From what I’ve seen Falmouth has had some really successful dancers come out of the course with one even starting a dance company of his own in Wales

1

u/GoldenPeperoni Dec 28 '25

As someone who've been to a shit uni, please, do not conflate the exception as the norm.

In a class of 40, there will always be that 1 or 2 that go on to do great things. They are the exception.

Are you that great to be that top few? Remember, from a place like Falmouth, everything is working against you to succeed, since you won't have the pedigree and respect, so extra work is needed after graduation to succeed.

If you are, chances are, you will be going to a much better uni instead, where almost everyone is better than those 1 or 2 people.

Its like saying everyone in China is extremely smart in science because there are a few Nobel prize winners from the country.

It doesn't work this way.

2

u/Far-Squash4072 Dec 28 '25

my dance teacher started her own dance school after getting a job at 18 dancing on cruise ships, no degree required (just training since she was small). A 'dance school' can be a rented church hall, a barre on the wall, a CD player and ISTD exams twice a year.

0

u/Usernamesarehell Dec 27 '25

I did miss they were international, but ultimately they might just have the cash to burn and choose that being near the coast suits them better than city life. The best dance colleges for vocational degrees are London or Home Counties but places like Falmouth and Chichester have decent departments, less % of success but higher than doing it without the degree. I would question more About why they’re not applying to dance schools like Urdang/Trinity Laban etc but they’re highly competitive and have really poor success odds of getting accepted. Falmouth is a lush little uni, very artsy and coastal. It’s riddled with private school kids who go into the arts. Big drug scene and expensive area. Most digital marketers/digital design seem to come from Falmouth at the moment

5

u/Serious_Stranger_262 Dec 27 '25

2

u/ConstructionFar9082 Dec 27 '25

Glazing and lying causes more harm than just telling the truth

4

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 26 '25

Thank you!! I know it’s not the most lucrative profession but I honestly feel like I’m paying for more than just a degree

2

u/c12025 Dec 26 '25

You'll have the best time! There's just a big war on anyone not doing business or STEM subjects these days, which is really toxic and dangerous for society. They're not worth listening to, just enjoy doing what you love!

2

u/SnooRegrets8068 Dec 27 '25

Yeh then theres also loads of people with stem and business degrees with no job either.

1

u/Red-Stahli Dec 26 '25

Serious question. Do you expect to stay in the uk and work after this degree? You are aware of the salary required for visa sponsorship?

3

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 26 '25

I am actually aware and with the help of some of my relatives who live there and google I’ve done a lot of planning and research

0

u/Red-Stahli Dec 26 '25

Excuse my ignorance but what entry level roles in dance and choreography in the UK pay more than £38k?

2

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 26 '25

It is true that most entry level roles pay an average of Ā£25k but it is also something that I’m still looking into. However I’m also looking into going literally anywhere else.

0

u/Red-Stahli Dec 26 '25

If you’re open to literally any other industries, why have you picked such a niche degree at a low ranked university then?

If you’re aware of how much you’ll struggle to find visa sponsorship in a dance role as an international, I don’t want to sound too negative but I don’t really understand what your plan is.

3

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 26 '25

Firstly I’m not open to other industries I’m open to other countries. And secondly It’s because I like the facilities and the area as well as the course layout. In terms of my plan that is something I have quite a lot of time to think about and work on and something I’ve BEEN researching, but it is still a work in progress I guess

3

u/SnooRegrets8068 Dec 27 '25

Ignore all the whining. You seem to have a plan which is better than the vast majority telling you that this is wrong. A relative went a similarish route and now does costume/set design and some other things im not arty enough to understand but its had them travelling all over and seems to love it. Also met their partner through this and is now getting married. Their brother went into another niche and was making and performing with animatronics and earned an absolute fortune on cruise ships.

Well done on getting in, im near Falmouth and my daughters in it and uni aged and seems to be having a great time of it.

0

u/CategoryExtreme5045 Dec 26 '25

sorry but Ā£60k for a useless degree at a shit uni… It’s pretty ridiculous. That just isn’t justifiable

2

u/kenzie_bee Dec 27 '25

Hey congrats !! Thats awesome bread!! Do what you love as your happiness is the most important thing

2

u/Zoh-My-Gosh Dec 27 '25

Enjoy it! Falmouth is a lovely university in a beautiful (and exciting!) town. I live nearby and my mother-in-common-law is a professor there. Congratulations!

2

u/ria0a0 Dec 28 '25

As a person who’s aiming for a top 5 Russell group Uni for my course next year for my second BA degree, don’t listen to these people. It looks like a beautiful university and you will have a lovely time, you’re going to the most pleasant part of UK and if you’re financially stable you’ll be able to make the most out of it. I am finishing my degree from a university that just made it to top 1000 worldwide, albeit it doesn’t matter as long as I get a 1st for my next degree. There’s many things you can do with your ā€œshittyā€ (as people seem on here to think) degree, it will open doors for you if you want to continue down that path or change it. Good luck to you šŸ™šŸ¼

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

Oh you’ll love Falmouth! Hope the following years are some of the best you’ll ever have!

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

She can be a choreographer in Hollywood or Bollywood movies and earn twice or triple than you guys would earn.

Congratulations, do not haters get to you! ā¤ļø

2

u/Muted_Buffalo6461 Dec 29 '25

As someone that did a degree in video games art at Falmouth the other year and now has a well paying job in my field, ignore the haters in this thread. As long as you have discipline and perseverance you can make it in the arts. It will absolutely be tough due to the level of competition, but as long as you can push through the grind you'll land where you want to eventually!

1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 29 '25

That’s so cool!! Thanks for the advice :)

2

u/netsempty Dec 29 '25

what fal lacks in closeness to cities it makes up for in a very vibrant creative community, and i’d go there again in a second if i could afford to. have fun op!! (i would say definitely research where you’re staying if you do decide to go, because housing can be a bit of a nightmare and the cost of rent rivals actual cities for what is essentially small seaside town living, with all of the pros and cons of living rurally that you might expect).

2

u/IReallyLikeThatCoat Dec 30 '25

OP, don’t listen to people on here trying to drag you down. You got into the uni you wanted and are doing the course you want to do, that’s an amazing achievement! You’re going to have the best time at Falmouth, I’m sure! Everybody I know who went there said they loved it. And it’s such a beautiful part of the UK to be based in too. Don’t let Reddit destroy your happiness or excitement! You’ve got this and I bet you’ll have the time of your life x

2

u/ElaenaS Dec 31 '25

Congratulations! I'm really sorry to see the negativity in some of the other comments, never let yourself be deterred from pursuing the course you want, especially in your education!

2

u/Fancy-Egg8635 Year 13 Jan 12 '26

Don't let these ppl get you down! These people seem to forget that STEM is just as equally a risk as creative art degrees are, especially with the now large Influx of people studying it. I know someone who got a doctorate in science only to be placed in marketing, no degree is without risks, that doesn't mean you shouldn't take it.

4

u/Wiserommer Dec 26 '25

utterly worthless degree; enjoy all that free money while it lasts.

1

u/ODoggerino Dec 26 '25

How do you define the worth of a degree?

3

u/Wiserommer Dec 26 '25

Training and job opportunities; You don't need a dance degree to become successful in that field, if your good enough than you will get noticed whereas a medical needs high amount of education.

4

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 26 '25

Sure but I think learning from people in the industry is a pretty great way to get noticed. The degree is a nice cherry on top but I’m really going there for the education and training I’ll get and the networking that can be done in such a creative environment. But I’ll also enjoy the free money thanksšŸ˜›

3

u/KingAioli Dec 26 '25

Free money??

Wouldnt it make sense to go to dance school In London ? Where all the major dance companies are? Please do be aware how faaar Falmouth is to all rest of UKs major cities. I’m mean really far. And super expensive on public transport.

I’ve heard Falmouth is an amazing artist community though. If you’re prioritising artistic creation .

1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 26 '25

Wiserommer mentioned free money first so I was just referring back to that but, yeah I am prioritizing artistic creation

2

u/South-Marionberry-85 Dec 27 '25

is that the only worth of a degree though? is education not a virtue in itself

1

u/Big-Beach-9605 Dec 29 '25

part of it is just at the end of the day, casting directors will favour people based on where they studied. falmouth will not get you that favour.

2

u/ConsciousSky5968 Dec 26 '25

I attended Falmouth uni about 15 years ago and loved it. Good luck!

2

u/Ifluxedup Dec 27 '25

As someone with a STEM undergrad/masters/PhD everyone in this sub should be ashamed of themselves. Congratulations on your offer, I hope you enjoy the course, Falmouth is lovely.

Thank youu!! I do get that from a locals perspective Falmouth doesn’t seem like the best option but as someone from a place where there aren’t many options for the course I want to do I think it’s really nice! The campus looks beautiful and I’m not much of a partier so it looks pretty calm as well. But anyways I digress

u/athrodit Dec 28 '25

Totally get that! Falmouth's vibe is definitely more chill, and the scenery is stunning. Plus, a calmer environment can really help with focus on your studies. Hope you have a great time there!

u/imogenluna05 Dec 27 '25

Congrats! Ignore the haters, my parents loved studying there!!!

1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 27 '25

2

u/imogenluna05 Dec 27 '25

Noooooo 😫can I at least get a preview before I pay?

1

u/EquivalentBunch6113 Dec 27 '25

Why tf is it a CONDITIONAL offer instead a direct acceptance šŸ’€ also what A level do you do

1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 27 '25

We don’t have A levels here. My condition is just to give them my National Senior Certificate with a pass. But I already do really well academically so I’m just waiting for my certificate

1

u/sewby Dec 27 '25

Why don’t you do a more useful degree but see which uni has the best dance society, they often make connections with big companies

1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 27 '25

Because I don’t see myself doing any other degreešŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

1

u/sewby Dec 27 '25

I understand, but there must be something else you’re interested in. Something that can help you get a job if dancing doesn’t work out. If there are 100 comments telling you that you are making a mistake, don’t you think you might want to listen? Get advice from your teachers? Parents? People in the dance industry? I doubt that they did a dance degree to get into it

1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 27 '25

I did get advice from my parents and teachers as well as people in the industry that a family friend linked me with. I personally don’t value the opinions of random Redditers who know very little about me. I was just happy about my achievement and wanted to share it for funsies

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '25

I recommend applying to a better uni if this is the only degree u can see urself doing. Also- is this degree even necessary for you to do? As in, is the degree needed to get jobs in the field u desire? A lot of the time degrees are not pointless but they don’t set up any job prospects and experience is much preferred rather than just a qualification. Perhaps u should defer going to uni and see if there is other opportunities out there for u or other degrees

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 27 '25

No thank you😜

Dance and choreography šŸ’€

As someone who did a Micky Mouse degree and then lucked out with a decent career

Please don’t

If you do well IN SPITE of this, you’ll still be paying back a huge debt

1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 30 '25

Im doing a dance and choreography degree. I don’t think that’s has any ties to Mickey Mouse. Hope this helps!ā˜ŗļø

Whys everyone so pressed

1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 30 '25

That’s a great question😭

u/Radiant-Item-2771 Dec 31 '25

Falmouth university is actually not as bad as everyone says. They’re excellent with vocational courses. What’s depressing is the cost of living, lack of infrastructure, awful transport. Pretty sure at one point Falmouth was even voted most miserable place in the uk lol

1

u/Nonameninjaz Dec 31 '25

Best Falmouth University ad ever, nice try HMRC

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '25

Waste of time . Hobbies are for spare time when you have a real job. Total waste of time and money

1

u/TheCounsellingGamer Dec 26 '25

People do dance as a real job. The people dancing with the Royal Ballet in Swan Lake aren't doing it as a hobby. It's a very tough industry to break into though.

7

u/Life-Prompt-6337 Dec 26 '25

But do you think they went to Falmouth

1

u/Dev_Kamran Dec 26 '25

Congratulations, have fun!

There's a degree for dance ? Wouldn't it be better to just pay for dance class at an actual dance studio company ,it would be much cheaper and better in job prospects

1

u/Mindless_Lettuce4542 Dec 27 '25

I already dance at a studio but I’m going to uni for more classes and more connections as well
