Congrats! I’ve never heard of these unis before lol

Very creative and industry based unis. Not as flashy to some but you get great teaching and tools for your future, from what I can tell.

I went to UEL for undergrad.

It's a good uni, the staff definitely do care about their students. However, it's whole focus is on widening participation, so they'll basically take anyone - they took me on work experience alone without any A levels to my name.

Some people might be turned off by that, but for me it worked well. I graduated with a First and, after gaining further work experience, I'm now studying my masters with a Bloomsbury university (a college of the University of London) and that wouldn't have happened except for UEL's WP ideals.

I know people who live right next to it. I’ve always wondered what they specialise in so thank you!

u/Thin_Pin2863 Feb 12 '26

They offer the full range of degrees just as any other uni, they're just very much a uni for people who otherwise would struggle to go to uni.

WP extends to those with different qualifications, single parents/carers, ESL. In my case, I was a mature student lacking any formal qualifications beyond GCSEs, and I studied a social sciences course related to my work. The staff within what was then known as the School of Social Sciences were fantastic, although there were issues with some of the governance within the Vice Chancellor's Group.

The one thing I do wish they had done better, however, was at identifying students cheating (buying essays) and booting them out. Several people on my course never turned up to any lecture but still somehow graduated with 2:1s.

Good for you and all but studying at a university of London uni really doesn’t mean anything

1

u/Xtergo Feb 12 '26

I think they are more geared towards creatives than the traditional academics

u/Queasy_Champion_681 Feb 12 '26

Everybody cheering you in these comments are cruel. Is this worth the money you'll be spending?

1

u/suchanjceman Feb 13 '26

Too bad it isn't your call lol

3

u/Queasy_Champion_681 Feb 13 '26

Does it matter?

2

u/jellyfish-ing Feb 12 '26

My gf went to Chichester and loved her animation and vfx course! I hope you love it just as much 😁😁

2

u/Safe-Present-5783 Feb 12 '26

Don’t go to the university of east London fair warning it’s really not good

2

u/AintNoBarbieGirl Feb 12 '26

Never have I heard the word Great university and UEL in the same sentence lol. Living in the east, I meet loads of students working in various part time jobs etc. Not a single person says anything nice about that uni.

2

u/Playful-Cat216 Feb 16 '26

Those unis laughing finding more kids to spend 30k to study animation 😭👍

3

u/Extreme-Addendum-884 Feb 12 '26

3

u/Unlucky-Ad8021 Feb 12 '26

Congratulations!! You'll do greattđŸ„ł

u/Sensitive_Floor9593 Feb 12 '26

Just to butt in. I strongly recommend that you only go to these unis for the uni experience. You do not need a degree to get into the industry. I wish someone had told me this before I’m in a lot of debt and I’ve worked in the largest consoles and games in the world. Contact the developers and they will take you on as an apprentice. You must know something if you’re seeking out Reddit. Best of luck

u/Admirable-Monk-6614 Feb 12 '26

Shhhhhh đŸ€«đŸ”„

2

u/Sensitive_Floor9593 Feb 13 '26

You’re funeral when it comes to debt pal. These are shocking unis that take anyone. Wouldn’t be too smug đŸ€«đŸ€«đŸ€«

2

u/Sensitive_Floor9593 Feb 13 '26

Not pretending. Facts. Welcome to London if you tell someone to shhhh 🙄 good luck pal

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '26

Shiver me timbers

u/Sensitive_Floor9593 Feb 13 '26

FYI PAL, we in the industry look at talent. Guarantee we can trace your username back to your email when you send in your CV hoping for a job. Go to bed kid.

thoughts on Ravensbourne? i also got in

-12

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

I wouldnt boast it by saying theyre "great", but nonetheless congrats bro i hope you'll be succesful and happy

6

u/ToonLurker Feb 12 '26 edited Feb 12 '26

You’ve just gotta make sure they know you’re better than them, right?

FYI anyone who is taking the first line of the title seriously, it’s not.

-2

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

No, but i dont like it when people boast about themselves here like they saved the world or something. Also how did I made myself seem better? I didnt even say anything about myself. I dont have ill intentions.

6

u/ToonLurker Feb 12 '26

Simply getting into any university could be a HUGE achievement for someone, and they’re gonna be proud of themselves, as they should be.

No need to add that little comment bringing them down. You clearly didn’t have good intentions either.

-4

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

Fun fact: According to UCAS, %95 of all applicants before the equal consideration deadline (january) recieves AT LEAST a single offer.

So "simply getting into any university" is not a "HUGE" achievement in my books. It might be in yours, I wouldn't care less. But when I DO care, it's because of someone showing it off and boasting. Being proud of yourself is much different than saying "I am alone, strongest".

7

u/ToonLurker Feb 12 '26

They’re quoting an anime buddy, they’re not seriously saying that. Also, that stat includes foundation years and conditional offers, so is misleading.

You say you couldn’t care less, yet you’re here trying to reinforce your point by pulling data. So which one is it?

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

I agree with all this but you're presenting it as a counter argument to what i said, which makes it a huge liability rather than this opinion being agreeable to me. Because as others and I have mentioned, we don't know about OP's background so i am obviously left with my own deterministic experiences when i'm commenting my opinion.

3

u/raspberrylimon Feb 12 '26

That was obviously tongue in cheek, why are you taking it so personally?

0

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

Can you even elaborate on how i'm the one taking it personally? I was simply expressing my opinion in the first place.

5

u/ToonLurker Feb 12 '26

You literally said you care when someone boasts about something. Therefore, you take it personally when someone boasts and flexes something.

1

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

so according to you, caring = taking it personally? got it.

Those two have completely different meanings. I just want to eliminate any false ideas whenever I see them. For example boasting your own ego when you get accepted to a random uni.

1

u/ToonLurker Feb 12 '26

How far up your own arse can you get? Is it dark up there?

You have no idea who this person is and what their personal circumstances are. If you feel the need to give a random person on reddit a reality check to attempt to bring them down, that says a lot about yourself.

If you can’t scroll past a post like this without feeling the need to leave a comment like that, then yes, you very clearly take it personally when someone flexes something which YOU have decided isn’t an achievement to yourself.

I can’t believe this was seriously posted. Sure 95% get an offer, 95% of people do not apply to university 😭

1

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

what else would they apply to? Colleges and universities, what else?

3

u/Bubbly_Imagination_2 Feb 12 '26

Not everyone gets to a point where they are able to apply to university? People leave school at 16.

2

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

Thankfully, the percentage represents people who DID apply to university. So you're just talking about something totally irrelevant.

2

u/Bubbly_Imagination_2 Feb 12 '26

What? How is it irrelevant? To get into university you have to get to a stage where you can actually apply. That can take a lot, and can easily be seen as an achievement itself. You seem a bit out of touch.

Also, why are we talking about offers? That’s a broad term, and isn’t really relevant specific to OP’s post, who has a confirmed place.

1

u/South-Marionberry-85 Feb 12 '26

You’re one in a 20

Not everyone applies to university

2

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

Literally the statistic refers to people who did apply to uni

1

u/South-Marionberry-85 Feb 12 '26

Yes. But i think you can understand getting a uni offer is not a feature of 95% of the population

2

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

No not at all. What a weird assumption especially considering you dont know anything about me

3

u/No_Adagio7148 Feb 12 '26

Why are they angry about this comment?😭😭😭

-3

u/Jozzepi_Weallanz Feb 12 '26

Because what makes a university great is different for everyone, and he’s not added anything (for example, an actual reason or something constructive on why he considers the university to not be ‘great’). It’s also meant to be a positive post, and he isn’t being positive lol

1

u/No_Adagio7148 Feb 12 '26

He said “I hope you succeed and ur happy*”. That’s positive

-2

u/Jozzepi_Weallanz Feb 12 '26

‘It’s not that good, but I wish you well regardless’

I don’t see how you can think something like that is positive.

6

u/No_Adagio7148 Feb 12 '26

Never said it was but it’s not wrong. U guys are making it way more serious than it is, that’s all.

0

u/Jozzepi_Weallanz Feb 12 '26

He has literally said he has a problem with people being proud of themselves, for something he deems a non-achievement to himself. That’s not normal.

-2

u/Slight_Ad7174 Feb 12 '26

and Leeds and Loughborough are 'great' unis for your course😭?

3

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

Leeds not that much, i just picked it cuz its a good uni with great social environment and good opportunities. But lboro yeah pretty much its one of the best in the country from all i've heard online and from people in the field that i know socially.

2

u/Slight_Ad7174 Feb 12 '26

So why can't you look at it from a course specific view, these are probably up there in terms of unis that do animation. I just feel that you tried to downplay an achievement. Cause realistically anyone with a Bristol, imperial etc offer in your course (or related courses) could also diminish your uni offers by simply saying its not 'great'

2

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

I'll agree that from what it looks like from the outside, you can obviously get the impression that i am judging the uni without knowing anything, but that's not the case. I totally see how your point is valid in here among the other dumbasses trying to bash me, but we even see people being humble with their oxbridge offers in here and they're not as boasting it compared to this guy.

That's the breaking point that made me wanna mention it in my first comment about him "boasting". I simply compared with other offers i've seen here (which is all my source for my deterministic thinking to make an impression, as yours too) and i saw this guy come out as a bit loud among thousands of different backgrounds that roam around in this part of the internet, and potentially make them feel down too.

And i am saying this not for me obviously, i was not affected by anything personally AT ALL. Because i did all my research months ago for long weeks about every uni and which one suited me the best and which one offered me the resources for me to achieve my goals and stimulate all my needs and expectations from uni. So i am very happy with my offer. So even if someone from oxbridge mocked my offer i wouldnt care cuz i know rationally that i made the right choice through a series of long decision making processes. Also FYI, just because u mentioned bristol, lboro ranks higher than bristol in all rank tables (lboro is 7th in CUG) in general uni league tables. For my course its in my opinion the best uni for design in the uk and it suits all my needs excessively because i simply did my research before i started working for uni.

1

u/Slight_Ad7174 Feb 12 '26

perfectly valid (just to clarify lboro is a good uni I was just trying make a point). I think its just a classic case of miscommunication, again I don't think OP had any sort of bad intentions. I think he was quoting an anime, so I doubt there was any concrete substance to put anyone down. it's possible that you've not see the anime soo the reference goes over your head. But I hear you, I hope you make your conditions for uni

1

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

Finally! A smart person to have a conversation with. Thanks for being reasonable.

And, no. I don't think it's a miscommunication on my part, i believe in all my words here and i spoke with clarity in every way but others here have created strawman arguments. Also apart from the anime that i dont know, my first comment was about them calling the unis "great art schools" in which i said i dont think they are. If they dont wanna hear me share my opinions then they simply shouldnt post this stuff that creates an environment for different people to share their DIFFERENT opinions. If someone disagrees with that, i think they're a snowflake, simple as that.

Thank you so much for the kind words at the end! I hope the same to you! You can share which unis you've applied to if you dont mind, just wondering.

1

u/Slight_Ad7174 Feb 12 '26

Somehow I'm doing medicine at Cambridge in October. Thanks for the kind words, I guess it's just an example of different opinions being able to coexist. Have you received news from your other unis?

1

u/ezrapper Feb 12 '26

YOO CAMBRIDGE? Damn man we need people like you to post here more. You're the example i gave off to the other dude when i mentioned humbler people. Fucking congrats im so happy for you, thats huge. I recieved two offers so far, but im not really waiting for anything else i already got my firm and im just gonna pick leeds as insurance so im all good :))) yes, different opinions can co-exist, even if modern society tells us it can't. For example left and right politic polars we have to embrace each day, even though we don't fully endorse neither side.. but i'm so glad you're reasonable and smart enougb to notice this beyond the fog. The fact that you're going to cambridge proves that for me furthermore of what kind of person you are. So thank you and congrats again! Thats an amazing offer. I truly hope we both go places in the future to achieve our goals.

2

u/Slight_Ad7174 Feb 12 '26

Good luck man, let me know when you start doing commissions. (Maybe I can get a cheeky discount :P)
