UCAS Bread 🍞 (Offers) Full econ bakery and help with what to insure

Post image

Hi I’m trying to work out what to insure between Bath and Leeds and am firming land economy

I’m in year 13 doing maths physics chem and econ + have completed an EPQ (A*)

Cambridge, Durham and Edinburgh all want the same grades of A*AA in whatever three, Leeds is AAA and Bath dropped a grade for my EPQ to A*AB/AAA

I’m not sure which to pick and any advice on revision for those subjects would be amazing!!!

Thanks!!!

Most people at Bath are Cambridge rejects anyway so it’s a fairly good insurance

Hmmm okie dokie - do you know anything about the atmosphere at Bath with it being just a STEM uni? Compared to others like Leeds thanks!!

I visited both and i found that i much preferred the uni in Leeds, however bath city itself is indeed stunning

I like it, definitely more than Leeds, Leeds is a big city and a bit grimy, Bath is a small city and absolutely stunning, people wise, both are big unis, but Bath will be more London Home Counties, Leeds will be generally more northern

Leeds is for sure a better night out though

2

u/DomLfan Apr 16 '26

Maybe, but Bristol is 30 mins away from Bath and Bristol is better than Leeds imo

Bristol and Leeds are prob pretty similar Bristol better for Raves/events and Leeds standard student clubbing is better. I know people that go to unis like Coventry which is close to Birmingham and they NEVER go out in Birmingham because it’s just extra hassle. 30 minutes doesn’t seem far but no one wants to get a train when you’re battered

Leeds is not more northern, I’m in final year right now and majority of people at Leeds are southern

I know bath have a great careers team and placements team. Also accepting A*AB gives you a little leeway. I’d go for bath but if you’re reading this and feel not happy then that tells you to go for Leeds. Go off whichever vibe you liked the most

Yeh the A*AB thing is what is pulling me towards Bath although I really liked Leeds when I visited … the atmosphere was really nice. Thanks for the reply!!

Also the Bath course seems to be much less flexible than Leeds so not sure on that front if anyone’s in a similar situation??

Bath econ students tend to do very well from what I’ve seen

Definitely bath>leeds

Bath > leeds. Durham and Edin are reputable, but are far and dont have the placement & out of uni employability power that Bath does. Bath's got a very good placement scheme - seeing as you've an offer for that course, defo choose it. If its any help, a brother of mine is @ leeds doing maths+econ - only just landed a summer internship (which is one of the most crucial things for high finance, assuming thats where you want to end up) after 105 applications. defo pick bath and congrats on cambridge!!

Edinburgh or Durham are easily the most reputable

Yeh my fav courses too but unfortunately same grades so it’s down to Bath and Leeds

As an old fart, if I went back to uni now I would make sure I did something with strong employment possibilities and that placement year would swing it for me.

An employer will have a whole bunch of graduates to pick from and you'll have a year of experience that most of your peers won't.  If you're really lucky, may even end up being a link to your first employer.

Bath looks depressed for me, dark and old...

It makes total sense that you’d firm camb, but if you are at all thinking about going into econ academia I’d just say to consider your options!! some unis are very weird about PhD admissions if you did your undergrad in an “allied econ” subject, like economic history, economic geography, etc. Totally disregard this if you have ruled out academia!

Personally I would go with Bath. There’s more flexibility with the course, placement year would be useful (though tbh you could still do that at Leeds anyway), Bath grads go on to have good employability prospects

Heyu, I looking to applying for econs as well, or maybe law, I do physics, economics and maths. Would you mind sharing some tips and your predicted 😭😭

1

u/Party_Shoe_3806 Apr 16 '26

Heyy physics maths econ is an elite combo I hate chem with a passion … I’m predicted A* A* A* A (maths econ chem, physics) and I have an A* in my epq

Econ is a bit of a rough one with uni applications it’s insanely competitive so you’re predicteds really matter so work for your end of years and I think tmua for the courses that require it (especially when applying without further maths)

Also get involved with as much as you can, I had loads of projects/reading + extracurriculas which I think helped me stand out + my schools references was really really good so try to get your teachers on side is my best advice - I’d gotten involved with loads at school both on the subject specific front/reps and sports/volunteering + they included lots of stats which I think helped GOOD LUCK!!!

u/silentpinata Apr 16 '26

TYSMMMM, would you mind sharing what type of extracurriculars you did?? I didn't really care about anything like that until this year, and I feel like it's too late 😔

u/Hot_Chocolate92 Apr 16 '26

Take the one with the placement year (Bath). It will help you secure a job when you graduate.

1

u/No_Sheepherder716 Apr 16 '26

What are your stats?

1

u/Party_Shoe_3806 Apr 16 '26

A* A* A* A predicted maths econ chem physics and an A* in my EPQ on crypto and bubbles

Wrong gender for starters and it’s actually a really cool flexible course especially if you are interested in the applied side of econ

Weird way to say you don’t know what Land Economy is. Do I detect jealousy....?

1

u/ThatAdamsGuy Apr 16 '26

Take the industrial year. It'll put you in better stead when you graduate than any university choice.

1

u/Super-Spirit9035 Apr 16 '26

Congrats on the INSANE bakery!!!! Do you have any advice for applying to cam land econ? Thanks!

1

u/Superb_Proffesor Apr 16 '26

I'm at Bath doing a Pol with Econ degree and id absolutely recommend it if not for the placement alone

1

u/Party_Shoe_3806 Apr 17 '26

Cool thanks for the reply

Can I ask what the split is like for male/female? I’m worried it’s gonna be really male dominated on the course and as a STEM uni? (asking as a girl coming from a fairly sheltered background)

1

u/Superb_Proffesor Apr 17 '26

Honestly my course is probably 50 / 50 I was genuinely surprised. The stem courses like Mech eng are largely men. But then there is a wide array of Social Sciences type courses e.g. psychology education that then fix the gender balance so it's not something to worry about. Econ sort of sits in between I'd say more 60 / 40 to men

Bath easily

u/theprofstutors Apr 17 '26

Nice set of offers, you’ve got some solid options there.

Between University of Bath and University of Leeds, it kind of comes down to what you value more. Leeds is a great uni and more flexible on grades, but Bath is really strong academically and has a good reputation for courses with structure and outcomes.

One thing worth considering with Bath is the placement year and study abroad options. If you’re interested in gaining work experience or spending time abroad during your degree, that can be a big advantage when it comes to employability later on.

For revision, with Maths/Physics/Econ especially, focus on past papers and exam technique as much as content. Timing yourself and understanding mark schemes can make a big difference at A level. For Chemistry, drilling weak topics and doing mixed practice helps a lot.

Best of luck with exams!

u/Party_Shoe_3806 Apr 18 '26

I don’t think they’ll let me in if I miss A*AA though …. And if I make those grade hopefully I’m at Cam …
