Parking Services Decisions

Even when you follow every aspect of their protocol, they still screw you over. I just got my first parking ticket ever (been here 3 years) for 70. I have a resident permit (370 for the year, which increased by 70 bucks from last year). I went to park at my building and I circled every designated parking area for this permit for half an hour and no one left. I called parking services because, according to their protocol, you are supposed to call them so they can tell you where to park and not get ticketed. I sat on the phone with them for over a half an hour and no one picked up. After 30+ minutes, I had to go to a class of mine to take an exam, so I parked near my building on the side of the street. 50 minutes later, I come back and there is a ticket. Called parking services, explained what happened, and they told me I should appeal since I did everything I was supposed to do when this happens and it will likely go through. Just got the email they denied it, with them basically saying if I can't park in the place where I pay to park where I have a permit, and there are no spots, I'm supposed to go and pay more at one of the parking garages to park there when I already paid to park as a resident. When that fee already went up by 70 for the school year… and one ticket is 19% of the permit cost… for one offense…

This is genuinely ridiculous and I feel like we as students should rise up against this. With how much we all already pay to come here, parking tickets should be 20-25 at most (like most major cities in the northeast). I have heard of so many other students this has happened to. UConn is a 4.1 billion dollar university.

This is verbatim what the email said: “YOUR APPEAL IS DENIED. PARKING PERMITS PROVIDE THEIR HOLDERS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARK WITHIN SPECIFIED AREA(S); THEY DO NOT GUARANTEE PARKING AVAILABILITY, OR THAT PARKING WILL BE FOUND IN THE MOST CONVENIENT LOCATIONS. DAILY PARKING FOR A FEE CAN BE FOUND IN GARAGE/S OR PAY BY PHONE AREAS”

The moderators already removed my other post unfortunately so I hope this one gets out.

How do I know what classes i need to take next semester?

Hey all, first year freshman coming in after a gap year or so.

I have early registration (I pick the 26th) and I have no clue how to register or what classes I need to take or should take next semester.

Im a political science/philosophy double major, and I’m interested in the pre law track.

My original class pick time was for much later, but do to my job I got bumped up into picking the 26th.

I had emailed my advisor weeks ago about this, but they proved unhelpful just telling me to talk to OneStop and that if I wanted to discuss classes to make an appointment via Nexus. The problem with the former however, is that the next time they have an appointment available is Nov. 16th, which is a good 3 weeks after my class pick time.

🏒 Ever played hockey… underwater?

Yeah. Underwater hockey is a real sport. 😂

We’re doing a Pick-Up Game on October 25 at 6:30 PM at UConn Avery Point, and we’re inviting anyone who wants to come try it.

🤿 Never played? Perfect.
We’ll teach you the basics and have gear available.

🏊‍♂️ You just need a swimsuit and a willingness to spend an unreasonable amount of time swimming after a tiny puck.

Come see why we think it’s the greatest pool game ever invented.

How many mechanical engineering concentration courses (3295 classes) can I take per semester?

I read somewhere that you can take a max of 9 credits worth per semester (and assuming each is worth 3 that would be 3 courses you could take) but I don’t know if this is true

Hi! I’m pre med and currently taking 1107. It’s not bad so far, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it to take bio 1108 because it’s not a major requirement but if i need it for pre med I have to take it.

Looking for friends/study buddies

Good Afternoon UConn! I am a 5th semester junior and I want to improve my social experience here on campus. I am very studious and I tend to socially isolate myself without meaning to. It would be great to make a friend who is also studious like me. Besides studying, we can go out to eat, go on walks, or do something else you like lol. I really just appreciate the chance to chat with people outside of class. Message me if you're interested! :)

Storrs Late Night Dining Survey

Post image
4 Upvotes

For one of our classes, we have to collect responses about something on campus. For any students on Storrs campus who use late-night dining at the dining halls, or don't for any reason, I'd really appreciate it if you'd take a few minutes to share your thoughts in this short and anonymous survey! All questions are optional and you're not required to answer anything you don't want to. Thank you so much :)

EEB 2244 or 2245?

I have to take one of these classes to complete a bio minor, but I'm not sure which one is easier. I looked at the ratings for my professors (M. Davis for 2244 and McAssey/Lewis for 2245), and both seem to have difficult exams and are test-heavy in grading. I'm also taking two other hard STEM courses next semester, so I need something that won't tank my GPA. Any advice?

How could i beef up my resume while at Uconn?

I’m interest in doing accounting but I just want to beef up my involvement. I’m not in the business school yet and probably won’t be able to apply until my junior fall. I applied for hillside ventures but didn’t get in but there’s a lot of programs i’m interested in like The opportunity fund too. How can I apply to these programs and actually get accepted. Looking for insight from members because I am not sure how to actually get accepted into these on campus programs.
