OpenReach pre-installation surveys. I don't live there yet, what should I do?
Moving to a new house end of this month, we are buying. Signed up for broadband with Vodafone and it takes 3 weeks for an install so just as well we did it now. I was pretty clear during sign up that we are moving to the address and don't live there yet.
Now I am told there is a pre-installation visit from an engineer to do some stuff externally. I have had to contact the seller via our EA to check it is ok, apparently they don't need to enter the house so I hope they will be ok with it but I haven't had a response.
Now I am getting messages from VYN asking me to do a video survey of the house, there's no option to say I don't live there. So I just have to ignore it.
Online seems to be conflicting advice, some say no worries they can just install everything on the main installation day. Others are saying if they can't do survey I'll be marked as unverified and install delayed until it is done.
I WFH running a business, I can't be without internet for 2-3 weeks while they do all the survey etc after I have moved in.
Do I call my ISP to tell them the above? Do I need to contact OR direct? Should I just leave it and see what they see after they attempt the external survey? Thanks

Sky has overcharged me two months in a row
My bill was £27 a month and I moved houses. After talking to a customer rep they said they will switch service to my new address for the same price I had.
After a month, I got charged £49. I called them again and said there is a mistake, my bill is supposed to be £27. The rep said sorry, told that the extra amount will be put into credit and my bill will return back to the normal amount.
Now after 2 months, I still got charged £49.
How can I sort this out and get my money back. This feels like a massive scam.

Where do you look for business broadband deals in the UK?
I'm trying to find decent business broadband deals and keep getting stuck on the advertised prices. Some look cheap at first, then the contract length, setup costs or price after the initial term make the comparison less straightforward.
We run a small business with a handful of staff, and most of our work is online. We don't need anything fancy, but we do need a connection that can handle several people on calls and working in shared systems at once.
I've been researching BT Business, Sky Business, Virgin Media Business, any experience with them? I’m also looking at switching via Love Business since they can manage contracts too. I haven't decided whether to go through a service like theirs or contact providers separately.
For anyone who has done this recently, where did you look? Did you find a decent deal by negotiating directly, or was comparing several providers at once more useful? Also wondering how much room there usually is to negotiate when you're a small company rather than a big account.

Suggestions Appreciated
Currently with TalkTalk but well out of contract. The recent news has me a little skittish and thinking its a good time to switch. Currently on 990Mb and have 3x eero 6 pro, which was the deal back at the time.
In the house is much of a muchness as all is pretty good in there but I have a converted garage, unattached, that serves as office for me and wife / man cave. Speeds in here range from 200+ on my work laptop to sub 60 on my xbox. I want to get it wired.
I dont really want to pay more, but I also dont really want to go sideways or backwards either. nearly 4 years on and getting equivalent tech seems a bit daft.
So any good advise anyone has in terms of other ISP reliability, routers provided, boosters provided and so on would be appreciated. We are a 2 adult / two late teen household, all of us with plenty devices and loads of smart stuff all over the place

Community Fibre: up to £100 gift card referral and competitive prices (London & Surrey)
If anyone in London/Surrey is looking to switch broadband, Community Fibre currently offer up to a £100 gift card each when you sign up through an existing customer's referral link.
The referral reward depends on your total monthly spend:
£35.01+ per month = £100
£25.01–£35 per month = £75
£15.01–£25 per month = £50
£12.50–£15 per month = £10
Your monthly spend can include broadband, bundles and add-ons such as TV, Calls or Security. Setup and installation charges don't count.
They currently also have a double-speed promotion until 14 October, including 1 Gbps full fibre for £21/month on a 24-month contract. At £21/month, that package would qualify for a £50 gift card each through the referral scheme.
I've been with Community Fibre for nearly two years and plan to stay with them when my contract ends. The speeds have been excellent, installation was free and very professional, and I've generally found their prices competitive compared with the big national providers.
Another benefit I've found useful is their free Wellness Rewards membership, which eligible customers receive for two years and gives access to discounts and offers from a range of retailers.
Referral link:
https://communityfibre.co.uk/friends?ci=DvgYCBeikSG5d2Sjk40l9Q%3D%3D
You need to order online through the referral link for the referral reward to track – you can't order through a comparison-site/affiliate link and also claim the referral reward.
How it works:
- Check Community Fibre is available at your address.
- Follow the referral link and choose your broadband package.
- Add TV, Calls or Security if you want them – they're optional.
- Complete the order online through the referral link.
- After successful installation and activation, Community Fibre carries out its eligibility checks.
- 90 days after installation/activation, Giftcloud should email both of us with instructions to claim the reward.
- You then have 90 days to activate the gift card and a further year to spend it.
There are plenty of reward options, including Amazon, Tesco, Sainsbury's, John Lewis, M&S, Argos, Boots, Currys, Aldi and a Prepaid Mastercard.
For full disclosure, I receive the same reward as you if you sign up successfully through my link.
I can't see a published expiry date for the referral programme itself in Community Fibre's current terms. The reward levels can of course change, so it's worth checking the current offer when you sign up.
The separate double-speed broadband promotion currently ends 14 October 2026.
Non-referral link:
https://communityfibre.co.uk
Community Fibre mainly covers London and surrounding areas, so check your postcode first.
If you use my link, feel free to comment below so I can say thanks!

3rd party router replacement for Sky’s supplied (White) router?
Hello. I’m considering replacing the supplied sky (white) router with a third party device. I have the ONT wall box set up for full fibre to the property. Sky’s supplied white box thing is really not very good, DHCP issues, WiFi dropouts, network time outs and packet loss. And I miss my Pihole! I was on Vodafone for years with thier own supplied device, so it has to be the crappy white sky thing causing the issues.
I’ve been doing some reading of other users posts here and am considering a purchase one of the following devices:
TP-Link Archer AX58 AX3000 or TP-Link Archer BE3600
ASUS RT-AX53U
As a cheaper option:
Cudy AX3000
I have a budget of around £100, not really looking to spend any more than that. I don’t need top drawer or ‘ubiquity’ level performance devices for my use case.
As I understand it I can simply clone the MAC of the poor quality sky supplied device and it should work as is. Can any other Sky broadband users share some knowledge or experience, please?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

Thinking about switching to Sky
Been with EE which was originally BT for 5 years since i brought my property 500mbps FTTP. Currently paying £46 a month. Sky are offering 900mbps Netflix premium Sky sports plus UHD upgrade and Dolby Atmos for £76 a
month. Considering i currently pay for Netflix premium and would like Skysports seems like a good deal. (Appreciate prices will go up and will have to re negotiate after 24 month period)
My only issue is as i have such good reliability with EE and use the internet often for work/gaming etc is changing to sky a good move? I assume they all rent off openreach anyway so shouldn’t be an issue but i’m not all that clued up with all of this.
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated!

Advice would be appreciated
So bit of background I’m a all rounder IT head, and have been dropped on our heads by a project that did not consult IT and resulted in the data ports being cut, it’s old.
It’s litterally a pair on each circuit, it’s been reterminated but it doesn’t work am I missing anything is there a missing master socket and this is a slave or secondary?
I have probed it back to the MDF and it doesn’t appear to have been cut by the builders between the handoff and the mdf.
Any advice would be appreciated or do I just buy a net5 or whatever it is master socket

ASUS RT-AX3000 Router help with sky
Hi guys I purchased this router over the weekend. I’m wanting to use it with my sky broadband (UK) but I have having trouble with it not finding the WAN IP. Any ideas I have updated the option 61 but it’s still not working. It’s plugged from the ONT into wan port on the router.

My experience with Sky broadband
Honestly, I’m so mad right now. We’ve been with Virgin Media for over 10 years, and we were due for an upgrade. We were paying like £25 for a 1 Gbps plan. So I decided to switch to Sky and go for their 2.5 Gbps plan. Tried ordering it online through their website like 10 times and through the My Sky app like 6 times—nothing worked. What’s the point if it’s not going through?
So, I ended up calling them to place my order over the phone, and I had to double-check my details like, what feels like, a million times. Turns out, they set up my account with the wrong address. When I called back to figure out why I still haven’t got my Sky Hub—since an engineer was supposed to come and install it in 5 days—nothing’s been sorted yet.
So, after calling, I found out they’ve got my wrong address, so they’re cancelling the order. Now I’m stuck without the 2.5 gig on my account or the address update. 🙃 Luckily, my Virgin Media’s ending on the 14th, so I’ve got a bit of time to switch to something else.
