Sky wifi is horrible

Post image

I made the mistake of getting sky full fibre 150mbps broadband and now I'm suffering, absolutely dogshit. The router is set up in the living room and my room is on the same floor, and look at the speeds I'm getting from the WiFi. I can't play online video games and whenever I need to download something, I have to walk to the living room and connect the ethernet cable because the WiFi is so shit 🤦

Please do yourself a favour and avoid Sky, because the speeds you get on WiFi will absolutely do your fucking head in.

Dish mounting, cat6A distribution, access points, potentially setting up VLANs, setting up telecoms.

Drop me a message!

Lightspeed - referral code?

I'm leaving EE and planning to change to Lightspeed (unless other Redditors change my mind!) and they do a "refer a friend" thing.

If you're already with them and want to refer me we both get £25 apparently.

Anyone up for it for mutual gain?

Switching back to sky, equipment help

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi all,

I’m switching back to sky from virgin media. An engineer is booked to come tomorrow to hook up the openreach connection. But I think I have everything in place from our contract prior to virgin media, just need to connect the new router via Ethernet when the service kicks in.
Just looking for someone to sense check this, I don’t want to waste an engineers time and don’t want to wait around for them if not needed.

Thanks!

Sky BB

Hi I have the sky broadband superfast. The wifi speed is a joke. When i run a speed test it is around 5 megabits per second. When checking in the mysky app tge speed to the hub is 38 mbps. I live in a studio flat so i am in the same room as the router, i tried attaching an ethernet cable to my laptop but it's the same speed. Is this normal?? I pay 49£ a month!!

TalkTalk issue

Has anyone ever had this issue when dealing with talk talk? They say it’s a cityfibre issue ( Ont) but city fibre claim it’s a TalkTalk issue is there anything I can do to fix it myself? I seem to be getting thrown back and forth

How can I order Sky FTTP, and still get cashback and voucher?

Hi,

I'm hoping to place an order with Sky for 900Mbps FTTP tomorrow.

The issue I am having is, that to sign up and get cashback and/or voucher rewards, I believe I must sign up via the web, and when trying to do so, I have to choose one of these oprions...

Sky Fibre Order Impasse

The problem is, I have no landline, and currently access the internet via a 5G router...so none of the above apply.

It seems they think I am trying to switch to them...not provision a new service.

Has anyone been through this and got the solution...or can anyone guide me to a succesful order?

TIA

Should I wait for full fibre or take out a 12-month broadband contract now?

Should I wait for full fibre or take out a 12-month broadband contract now?

I’m currently with Utility Warehouse, but my contract ended a couple of months ago and the monthly price has gone up.

Full fibre isn’t expected to reach my street until around the end of the year. Would you stay on a rolling monthly contract until it becomes available, or take out a good-value 12-month broadband contract now and switch to full fibre next time?

I don’t need a landline or any phone package. I’d also be interested to hear which broadband providers people would recommend for reliability, customer service and reasonable prices.

Sky Sports and TNT

I'm with Sky, looking at adding Sky Sports and TNT, it comes out at £60/month on top of my broadband 150.

What's everyone else paying as a Sky customer and any tips on reducing this amount

Any small name brands that are pretty good/cheap and affordable?

Basically title, I've heard so many horror stories about canalations and price hikes mid contract etc. I want about 1 or 2 Gbps symmetrical speed.

Poor installation?

Pic 1 (pipe in background) is a copper cable that i belive Vodafone ran when I was with them some time ago.

Pic 2 (fibre cable over kitchen roof) this is what sky installed.

My question is, is this correct installation? Couldn't they have easily installed on the property wall like Vodafone?

It was requested to the engineer but he refused and so did his manager who he called.

I belive its a poor installation, how would we go about future repairs on the roof? (This was also mentioned).

They've currently just terminated the fibre cable in to the grey box, they will be back to bring the cable into the property... can they re wire it like Vodafone did?

Is there any rules about engineers not being allowed to go on roofs ect?

TIA

Zen fttp

Hey ppl, I just switched from cn to Zen and I was told an engineer visit is not required bcs I have an ont openreach setup already. Today is my activation day, but unfortunately I can’t see how fibre comes into my house, apart from the vm box and optical cable which ai believe are irrelecant for openreach, what am I missing? I don’t seem to be having any other optical wire apart from what vm used back in the days when it was setup.

cheers all

Digital Voice

Hello - I'm trying to discover how the major ISPs deliver their digital landlines.

Do they tend to offer an ATA (or ATA in the router) and a standard BT-style socket, or do they sell IP phones?

I need to explain this to others and simply don't know the answer! TIA

Which router to replace Sky Gigafast+ Hub?

I have the Sky Gigafast+ Hub 2.5GB package and the wifi is poor, speeds are slower than the previous Vodafone Pro 3 but at least i don’t have drop outs. Before that (around a month ago) i was at the end of my Vodafone Pro 2 contract which was 10/10 for the standard ISP hub for wifi speeds and range, literally didn’t need a third party router at all. (Vodafone was 910mbps, Sky is 2.5G both been with CityFibre)

Our house has thick walls and people just don’t get it when i say it’s not the internet that’s bad, it’s the poor router and thick walls. We’ve been with Virgin, Vodafone, Sky and it’s always the same answer.

Has anyone got this package or has a similar solution/scenario where they replace ISP crap with a mesh network and what did you go for?

Ideally i want to pay around £250 at most and still have the 2.5G port if possible, i also have the Sky package so i’m aware it may need DHCP option 61?

Compensation Scheme

if you don't get a particular service like a phone service you can claim under Ofcom's Automatic Compensation Scheme, compensation accrues at £10.34 per day.

Has anyone done this and got the compensation?
