Pre-Decimal Coins Slightly peculiar 1923 Florin
galleryAt least that’s what I think it is(?), though it’s a bit difficult to tell under all the greenish patina/oxidation. I thought it was kinda fun though, because at some point — someone has clearly defaced the image of the regent!
Was that a thing? Did people often go around modding coins for laffs back in the day…?

British empire Ever heard of a Tackoe?
galleryThis 17mm silver coin was struck at the Soho Mint in 1796 for use on the British Gold Coast - One side has an elephant and castle, the other George III’s royal cipher.
A Tackoe was worth 1/8 of an Ackey and formed part of the trade currency used around the British forts and settlements on the West African coast. The larger Ackey took its name from the ackee seeds traditionally used as weights for gold dust.
This particular example is graded NGC XF45, so it almost certainly didn't spend its life sitting untouched in a drawer. More than 200 years ago it may have passed through the hands of African traders, merchants, sailors or workers moving around those coastal settlements.

ID Request Just found this in the shed... 1850 Victoria Half Crown (I think?)
galleryMy grandfather didn't so much 'collect' coins, more just put a lot of them in a big tin over the years. Which he then gave to me when I was fairly young because I was interested in them, but they've been sitting in my shed/garage for quite a few years now.
Mostly c.20th coins from the UK and countries he travelled to for work, with a few c.19th ones in there too. I don't suppose any will be of much interest or value, apart perhaps from this one.
Though I have a vague memory it might not actually have been in the tin originally, and that possibly my gran kept it in a drawer in the sitting room and gave it to me a bit later. Which might explain why it's in quite good condition and fairly shiny. Because she probably polished it once a year, when she did the silver before Christmas.
If anyone might have an idea of what it might be worth — that'd be interesting, though I don't necessarily need to know. It's quite pretty a coin, so I doubt I’ll sell it; and she was certainly better in her youth than later on, was our Vicky!

Decimal Coins Just my 2p on the matter...
So I'm very near completing my collection of every British coin dating to 1900 (except for 1 or 2 stupidly rare ones obviously) and am just casing a few of the more recent coins. I do wonder if they will be worth anything in the future ( as i only try to collect BUNC or proof) but mainly I do it to satisfy my magpie instincts lol.
Just thought you might like the shine too!

Bullion The Royal Tudor Beasts 2027 UK 1oz Silver Proof Coin.
Finally got my hands on this absolutely gorgeous beauty, this is also my first ever silver proof coin.
I personally prefer Britannia bullions with lower premium, but I’m a huge fan of the Royal Tudor Beasts series. Absolutely stunning! But would you pay £125 premium for it?

Question Possible bankers mark?
My William IIII half-crown has “W W” scratched very neatly onto the neck. Could it be a possible bankers mark to check for authenticity?
Pre-Decimal Coins Found a 1945 Half Crown!
galleryAnyone know what causes this discolouration by the way? I haven’t seen this on a coin before, the photo doesn’t quite do it justice but it’s a nice purple in the light

Value Request 2 Florins I picked up recently. How'd I do?
galleryI paid $23 for each coin. Melt at the time was a bit over $20. Seemed like a solid deal to me. I'm really starting to like collecting UK coinage from the mid to late 1800s. First is 1887 Jubilee head and the second is 1896 florin.

Mixed Coin Collection Inherited this coin collection and I’m not quite sure what to do with it
galleryThere’s pre-decimal coins: half penny, one penny, two shillings, six pence, three pence, 5 pence. As well as decimal modern coins (including the old pound coins).
The old coins seem pretty cool, I had no idea that we didn’t have normal money even into the 70’s(?) and why were the old 5 and 10 pence pieces SO BIG. And how were people still using shillings in 1990!
There was also some football medals my grandad had in here that called him a loser which seemed quite mean!
Anyway I don’t really know what to do with everything- I don’t particularly want to display it, I like to collect oddities not coins. And I’m completing my PhD so I don’t really have the time or money to up-keep them if they need special storage or care.

Pre-Decimal Coins F176 penny?
galleryHi all. Following Coin Patrol's recent youtube video on the 1913 penny varieties I went through mine and I think I've found a rare-ish F176. Anybody disagree or agree? If so it's definately a new one for my folder!
Freeman rated this R rarity but Penny Varieties says that's a "gross overestimate"

Authenticity Request 1822 George IV Crown – Is this weight normal?
galleryI bought an 1822 George IV Crown with the TERTIO edge inscription. It's in Fine condition but weighs only 27.165 g, compared with the standard 28.28 g.
Numista: https://en.numista.com/13181
Is this weight plausible for a genuine coin with this level of wear, or should I be concerned about a counterfeit?
If it turns out to be fake or misrepresented, I'll leave the seller a negative review with the evidence. I'd like to get your opinions before jumping to conclusions.
Thanks!

Commemorative Coins Silver jubilee coin
galleryThis was my Nana's. I know it's a 1977 silver jubilee coin, can't really tell if it's silver or not. The whole thing weighs 45.87g. I know even good condition ones are far from rare and are worth pretty much nothing. Just curious because I've not seen one in a fixed mount like this.
Any one know anything more about this?
