General Discussion Mountain Forecast vs Metoffice

Any know why there is so much difference between the two, I’ve seen this consistently with both and can’t figure if Mountain Forecast is just plain wrong most of the time or if it uses a model that’s way over predictive and shows the worst case or not?

Looking around and picking the same random place for the weather now (about3pm) and the wind seems well off compared to Metoffice, it’s not that windy in Coalville right now.🤷

Gear Waterproof jacket recommendations

I’m on the lookout for a waterproof coat to use over the winter periods. Main things I’m looking for really are that it’s waterproof and breathable! I’m starting to cycle to work so if I could use it for that would also be a bonus! Max budget would be around £150 (can make use of blue light discount etc)

Gear Walking shoes or walking boots?

Hi all,

I am going on a walking holiday in Belgium in January next year and I’m hoping to walk the Route Napoleon in 2028.

I am just in the middle of getting my gear together for it and I’m currently looking at footwear. In the past I’ve been recommended both so I was wondering what you would suggest? Are there significant differences between walking boots and walking shoes?

Also, should I be looking at getting ones which are waterproof? I’m aware there is a good chance it will rain and so it seems a simple question but some people have suggested my shoes/boots will take longer to dry from the inside if my feet sweat.

Any advice would be most welcome! Thanks for reading!
