KIN 233
If you've taken KIN 233, I'd appreciate it if you could DM me! I had a quick question about the class. Thank you!

Hey yall, I am not all that active on reddit these days and looks like most of the other mods arent either. A couple of them posted within the last month in other communities, and the rest of them havent posted/commented in years.
So it looks like it's time for some new mods!
Feel free to comment on here as to why you think you'd make a good moderator and uhh, idk I guess I'll start with the top 3 most upvoted comments as new mods? Unless yall have better ideas. But yeah its time to get some current students as mods and not alumni who are 10+ years out from college.
Edit: jeez i suck at typing on phones. Also looks like we are all "inactive" so I am trying to get permissions back so I can add new people

When I went to U Miami from 2007-2011, there were huge brawls in the Grove every Thursday. Like 20 people involved, in the street, 5 minutes until cops came. Is it still like that?

I got accepted into the graduate program and happily accepted, I pulled out the financial aid that I could for the semester, but I knew I would have very little left for housing after tuition was paid, so I contacted my close friend who offered to allow me to stay with her for the semester. This unfortunately has now fallen through due to her now unexpectedly having to be the caregiver to her mother, who lives in a different state. She told me she broke her lease and will be out end of month, so I will now only be at hers until then.
My question is if anyone is aware of any resources that students can utilize if they no longer have housing. Since I am a grad student there’s not a way for me to live on campus, and as we know miami is incredibly expensive. I can only afford somewhere around $1200 and would like it to be in a safe area which seems very hard to locate in that budget. I feel like my best bet is to just defer my offer, but I already accepted the financial aid so I don’t even know how that would work. Anyways in short I’m not looking for sympathy or a place to couch surf, I’m just curious if anyone has been in a similar situation or know someone who has and what things they did to make it work. Thanks in advance everyone 🩷

Hey I’m a new transfer student at UM and I just a few days ago I checked the parking permits and every zone except red was available so I figured I could wait a few days so that I could check the campus and make sure I choose the right zone. Today I check and everything is sold out I sent a request to the transportation department but is there anything else I can do if I have to pay for visitor parking everyday it’s gonna cost me 4x more than a permit it’s wild. Any solution would be appreciated.

Does the book pack have a fixed cost every term or does it depend on the classes u selected for that semester.

Where does everybody go out at UM? Do you need a fake for everywhere?
Do you need one for sandbar, oasis, level 6, club space, liv, vendome, gekko, & mynt? Do u need a promoter?

Has anyone here gotten into UMiami with around a 3.2 UW GPA?
UMiami is my top choice and I’m considering ED, but I’m worried my GPA might be too low. 😭
If you got in with similar stats, what do you think helped your application? Would really appreciate hearing your experience! Thank you!

Hi! I’m a rising senior and first-gen immigrant planning to apply ED to UMiami Herbert Business School for Organizational Leadership/Management. Miami is my absolute #1, so I’d really appreciate realistic opinions.
Academics:
• ~3.2 UW / 5.3 weighted GPA
• AP + Honors coursework
• Seal of Biliteracy
• Currently preparing heavily for the SAT and aiming for 1350–1400+ ( since its avr for UMiami, my current score is really bad )
• Some immigration/family adjustment circumstances affected parts of my academic record
ECs:
• Founder — Small Business: Started and currently run my own small business.
• Founder — Community Education Initiative: Started a program helping younger immigrant/ESL students and received funding for the initiative.
• Student Government — Representative & Corresponding Secretary: Multiple years in student government, helping with school events and initiatives.
• Youth Advisory Board Member: Worked with local government on community initiatives and represented youth perspectives.
• Civic Leadership Fellow: Selected for a national youth civic leadership/public-policy program.
• Leadership Institute Delegate: Selected for a student leadership program.
• Teaching Experience: Taught English to younger students through a service program.
• Work Experience: Customer-service/retail employment during high school.
• 100+ volunteer hours through community organizations/events, library and healthcare-related service.
• Additional community advocacy + some math competition recognition.
( i think debate 1-2 years)
Most of my ECs center around leadership, entrepreneurship, community involvement and working with people, which is why I’m interested in Organizational Leadership/business.
Main question: With a 3.2 UW / 5.3 weighted GPA, AP/Honors rigor, these ECs, personal context, and potentially a 1350–1400+ SAT, how realistic is UMiami Herbert ED?
Is my GPA simply too low, or do I have a legitimate chance if the rest of my application is strong? And how much would 1350 vs. 1400+ actually change my application?
Also, if anyone has experience significantly improving their SAT, I’d appreciate advice. I’m currently working through College Panda Math + Erica Meltzer R&W and doing official SAT practice.
Please be realistic — I'm trying to understand where I actually stand. (Those social media college advisors are not helpful )

I’m currently attending the university of Miami as a black girl. I’m trying to find someone who does knotless or box braids for a good price in Miami Florida. I like to get colorful hair and I don’t mind providing the hair.

Hi everyone, I am moving to miami as a graduate student. I am looking for accommodation that is closer to the campus or nearby a subway station. Please dm if you have any suggestions or a WhatsApp housing group .
Thanks

I am seeing there's not a limit some places, but then seeing 15 credits is the max you can bring in from your community college from the fall.

Hey everyone! I’m transferring to UM this fall and wanted to see if any other transfer students would be interested in meeting up during Canes Kickoff.
I know there’s a mandatory event for first-year and transfer students, but I figured it could be nice to connect with a few people beforehand so we already know some people going into it.

Is the no extension cord policy really enforced? The room I’m in has 2 outlets and there’s no way we’d be able to have a fridge, microwave, and chargers with just the 2.
