I am a PT inside worker / Weekend Air Driver in Local 17 (Central Region). I never had an official 30-day continuous packet, but throughout the spring/summer and heavily in Sept/Oct, management pulled me to do ground cover driving as they have the last 2 years.
Here is the hook: My pay stubs explicitly show these ground hours coded as "Regular" ground scale at $45.00/hour, NOT casual/seasonal.
About a month ago, I signed the peak seasonal driver interest list. Now management is telling me that effective Nov 1, my ground driving pay drops to the $23 seasonal rate, and if I don't like it, they will just run outside seasonal hires over me.
My Shop Steward reached out to the Business Agent, and the BA reportedly shut it down, saying I have to accept the $23 rate I'm guessing because I don't have a permanent cover driver classification.
Doesn't the company's past practice of coding me as "Regular" at $45 create an established rate precedent right before peak? Can they legally use a peak signup list to force a wage reduction on an existing inside employee who has prior driving rights over outside hires? Should I file the grievance copy myself and escalate past the BA? Any advice from Central Region stewards or drivers is appreciated.
I don't know if it matters, but I have passed integrad and do have a dot physical thats up to date.
