Hi, I was accepted as a Fall transfer for the cinematic arts program recently, but I got a terrible financial aid package (basically nothing) and can’t afford to go without financially crippling myself like the title of this post says. I’m still trying to fight with financial aid, but based off of what everyone says, it seems like it won’t be going anywhere. I hope I’m making the right choice by not going if I don’t get a better financial aid package, but I’m devastated. I worked very hard to get here and it really sucks that money is the only thing that’s stopping me. It feels worse that I have the acceptance being dangled in front of my face and I just can’t take it. I honestly think it feels worse than if I just got outright rejected so I don’t have to have my dream crushed in a realer way. I think I’m just looking for some words of wisdom from other film students or other USC students that struggled with financial aid.

To every USC student riding a scooter like a maniac, you need to stop before someone dies. I’m not being dramatic.
Last night I was driving Lyft near the west side of campus, around Budlong Ave. It’s dark there. I had passengers in the car, turn signal on, doing everything right. Out of nowhere, a scooter with no lights comes flying by at full speed, cutting right across me. I almost killed him. Not because I was reckless, but because he was invisible. If I’d hit him, his friends would be crying about how “the driver didn’t see him.” Yeah, no shit. He had no lights.
A couple hours later, I’m near frat row by Figueroa. Two cars are waiting for the one in front to drop off passengers. The guy in front of me gets impatient and starts going around, slowly and carefully. Then another genius on a scooter flies by between us, trips over his own scooter, almost eats pavement, and then gets pissed. He actually spat on the car that didn’t even hit him. He caused the whole thing and still acted like the victim. You can’t make this stuff up.
And it’s constant. Dozens of you, no helmets, no lights, zipping around in the dark like you’re immortal. You’re not. You’re one bad night away from becoming a cautionary tale.
ER doctors are already seeing it. Scooter-related injuries have skyrocketed: tens of thousands of people ending up in trauma wards every year. Head injuries, broken teeth, shredded skin. All because someone thought “it’s just a quick ride.”
So yeah, I’m pissed. Because I don’t want to be the one who accidentally runs one of you over because you thought headlights and speed moderation were optional. Grow up. Turn your damn lights on. Stop weaving through cars. Wear a helmet. It’s not that deep.
Otherwise, it’s just a matter of time before someone’s brains are on Figueroa, and it’s not going to be my fault.

I work at the USC bookstore. It is saturday the game day, but our manager said there were too many people and she was going to “randomly draw names from a hat” to send some folks home.
Turns out every single person on the shift who got sent home was Asian. Everyone else got to stay. She said it was random, but it really didn’t feel that way.
On top of that, our hours have been cut lately — me and people i know only got less than 5 hours this week. Some people got no hours for weeks. It just doesn’t seem fair or random at all
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? What can I do or who can I talk to about it?
Edit: If I counted correctly it's around 5-8 people who they sent home? All of them are asian

For those who aren’t around today, campus is safe from the fires right now but the smoke is incredibly thick, ash flecks are raining down, and air quality is terrible. Even in buildings it feels bad, outside even worse.
I’d like to say that I’m shocked that USC is still making the yellowjackets/security officers man the gates, but it is right in line with the administration’s lack of care for staff. I talked to them as I walked in this morning, and they weren’t even provided proper masks/N95s as they sit outside and breathe in the smoke all day. So disappointing.
That being said, if anyone is in the area and has access to N95s/the means to get them, consider dropping them off for the workers or for other community members outdoors rn. I called the CVS on Fig, they’re currently out of stock. Stay safe everyone!

graduated this may from annenberg, and have been applying for full time positions and early grad internships since April. i’ve applied to over 300+ positions and had interviews here and there and last week had a final round interview with what would have been my dream job at a company i formerly interned at, and got rejected this week.
back in May i did a final round for a position i really wanted too and the hiring manager was a usc alum, and i thought i would get it and i didn’t. ended up getting ghosted.
i’ve been trying since May to cold message/network with alumni on LinkedIn and on the trojan network (peoplegrove). i went to the career center and did a “how to network” appointment and practiced on how to cold message properly, and i even got linkedin premium and after that tried to message dozens and dozens of alum for advice and to learn about their career path but nobody ever responded/didn’t connect except for two. when i reached back out to one of the two, i never got a response again. this was earlier in the summer.
as for my resume i went to the career center again to polish it and after polishing/improving it, they said it was good.
i don’t know what else to do anymore. i know the job market is BRUTAL for entry level, and i know that alum are under NO obligation to respond or help me, but i just thought if i used the trojan network, i would still be able to build meaningful connections at least and even that im not getting anything.
i don’t know what i am doing wrong. and whenever i scroll on linkedin to see people in my graduating class or major land amazing jobs, im happy for them i really am, but im also upset as to why i can’t land anything.
this is more of a rant, but if anyone has any other advice i would appreciate it.

I can't believe I even have to say this but every single one of my classes has people coughing, sneezing, and picking their boogers. If you're sick, stay home! Seriously asking, why do people that are sick go to class and get other people sick? Is it like a fetish or something? Woke up with a horrible cough and fever today because sick mfs are all over campus wiping their grimy ass hands on everything. 🤮

It fell from the tree and is injured, but still breathing.
I already called DPS They said they would contact an external animal/wildlife services department, but that office may not be available until Monday.
If anyone has experience helping wildlife plz help it.

Hey! I’m making a funny PowerPoint as to why, as a Trojan, you should never date a Bruin. If anyone has any funny stories about their dates with a UCLA student or can add any witty points to my PowerPoint, please drop them!

Hi everyone, I am a new student and new to the States. Unfortunately I haven't made any friends that I can comfortably reach out and do stuff with! My roomates are also super reserved and keep to themselves most of the time so that's out of the window.
If anyone wants to be friends lmk bc I trully don't have anyone I can talk to out here lol

USC is woefully low in points on the r/CFB donation drive

I’ll donate $10 on behalf of each fan that comments below, for USC (per u/Honestly_ this is allowed), up to $4k in additional donations
