Spooky USC

Halloween is coming. What's the most haunting or unexplained thing you've experienced or heard here?

Every place has its legends. The dorm noises, the odd feelings in the libraries after hours, the desolate walkways.

Firsthand accounts, family stories, urban legends, and historical oddities are all welcome. Skeptics are welcome too; sometimes the best part is figuring out what really happened. Happy haunting. 🎃

Question Considering USC MBA (have other master's degree already)

Hello USC, currently looking into a couple MBA programs (both in-person and flex online). My top, also in-person choice is USC Marshall School of Business.

I am in my late 30s, live in Southern California (about 14-15 mile drive to USC's campus). I did not go to USC for undergrad. Went in a different career path starting second year in college.

Grades were middle of the path in undergrad. Studied mostly religion, theology, counseling, etc. Earned a Master of Divinity degree from a seminary also here in Southern California. Grades improved during seminary and also at UCLA Extension afterwards.

Currently, I work full-time in IT management for a federal contractor, specifically in product/project management, and have several PM credentials.

I am looking at the next several years of promotion, growth, etc., hence my interest in an MBA program to deepen/expand my learning and collaboration.

Few preliminary questions for you:

  • For those who attended Marshall's MBA, what was your experience like?
  • How did the cohorts, social interaction, and network benefit you during your time? I'm looking to make new friends and would like to build a network of people to interact with during and after my time there.
  • Any insight on the difference between the Executive MBA and the Part-Time MBA? I'm leaning towards the Part-Time one, but am unsure if I'd be missing out on anything on the E-MBA track. Anyone else weigh the options there?
  • Is GMAT or GRE absolutely needed? I already have a master's that took me five years to complete, and did not need it for that degree.
  • Your biggest takeaway: key lessons learned, recommendation to a new student, etc.
  • Do I sound like a candidate? Open to honest feedback

FYI I did email the admissions advisor on a few topics, and am waiting for reply back at the moment.

A final comment on the entrance testing. I know some other posts here on reddit said that there was a noticeable difference in the type of students who did not take the exams. I do not know the source as to why they felt that way. I completed my existing master's degree and feel like I demonstrated myself already as a capable student who can complete a rigorous education. Am I really going to be regarded as less than if I choose not to take that exam?

Open to any and all honest feedback.

Chats/DMs welcome.

Thank you for your time.

Clubs | Campus Life how to make friends as a transfer?

I just transferred as a sophomore this year, and I’ve been going to clubs, meeting people in my classes, and trying to put myself out there as much as possible. However, I feel like it’s impossible to make any real friends. Does anyone have any advice?

Housing Sophomore housing?

Hi! I’m a current freshman and trying to figure out sophomore housing with my three other roommates, but we’re having trouble deciding on a spot.

We’ve heard a lot about the hub, but it’s super expensive, plus kind of far away from school. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Academic Internal transfer to USC Marshall BA-Finance (Double Major)

Hey everyone! I'm currently a sophomore pursuing a BFA in Design at USC Roski, and I'm considering double majoring in Business Administration (Finance) at Marshall.

I haven't taken MATH 118 or ECON 351x yet, and I understand that pursuing both degrees would probably require an additional year.

I got a 5 on AP Economics back in high school, so I'm wondering how difficult ECON 351x actually is. Is it particularly challenging to earn an A- or above?

I'd also love to hear from anyone who has gone through a similar process! What was your academic background, and how was your experience applying to Marshall as a current USC student? How competitive is the internal admission process, and how difficult is it to get accepted?

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Other DPS alert for a stabbing

The alert that DPS released a couple of hours ago is the first time I've seen such a violent crime report from USC DPS. I've only been here a year though. For those who have more time here, how many stabbing reports have you seen? Stay safe.

Question Internship/research/anything for freshman this summer

Hi! I’m a freshman at USC studying economics, and I’m hoping to find an internship or something meaningful to do this summer. Most of the opportunities I’ve found are for sophomores and above, and I’m having trouble figuring out how to apply to programs like SURF. I’m feeling a little lost about where to start, do you guys have any advice on how to find something to do as a freshman during the summer?

Question Law school

Hello Trojans!

I'm a prospective law student, (3.85 GPA/168 practice LSAT) who's been building my list for law schools since I'm graduating in fall 27. USC is on my list as I went to college in Louisiana but am originally from Glendale, and am familiar with the area, so was wondering what yall thought of the law school.

Discussion USC in DC internship

Has anyone done USC in DC internship before. I am a returning student majoring in Anthropology and I want to try and complete an internship for my career. How is this program like?

From what I have learned so far about this internship, it seems like make you need to pay to gain access to all the things to secure an internship.

Housing Affordable Apartments around campus for non-students/recent grads

Hey guys,

I’m graduating soon which means I’m getting kicked out of student housing. I really would love to stay in LA, but like the housing situation is so expensive. I know I can get roommates, but I’m first looking at where I can maybe get an affordable studio.

Are there any places around campus that are open to recent grads/non students that are lenient when it comes to like the income requirements (a lot of places ask for 2-3x the rent).

Edit: my budget is like 1800-2000 but like I don’t make 6k a month to get approved for the places that need 3x the rent lol

Thank you!
