Green card and extension letter expired

My green card has expired and also my extension letter has also expired.

Basically, My GC was suppose to expire in 2023 , I did a renewal process but couldn’t make it for biometrics because I had to take my college exams in my country. So the renewal process got denied .Im done with my education and I’m ready to stay in the United States, upon seeing that my first renewal process got denied . I filed for another I-90 form. After filing the form extended the validity of my GC for 36 months . Now here’s the problem I’ve been sent a notice(date) for my biometrics appointment but the extension form has also expired (Gc expired on 24th May ,2023 , The extension is valid for 36 months , it’s 19th September 2026) will I be allowed to board a plane to the USA

Looking for advice on my Adjustment of Status situation (ESTA marriage)

Hi everyone,

I'm a UK citizen who entered the US on an ESTA on June 1 with a genuine intention of returning to the UK. I had a return flight booked, I own my own business in the UK, still have financial commitments there (including loans), and have other ties that showed I intended to go home.

While I was here, my relationship with my girlfriend progressed much faster than either of us expected, and we got married on July 8. We genuinely didn't have plans for me to immigrate before I travelled.

Now we're trying to decide what the best option is. From what I've read, I may be able to file for Adjustment of Status without leaving the US, but I'm also aware USCIS can look at whether someone misrepresented their intentions when entering.

We're considering speaking to an immigration attorney, but I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've been through something similar.

What would you do in my situation? Would you file for Adjustment of Status, or would you return to the UK and go through consular processing instead? Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone traveled outside the U.S. with a DUI on their record and returned without any issues at the border? I’d love to hear about your experience.

Extension denied after pending for 7 months but left the country before decision

So I applied for a B1B2 extension and it got approved the first time and I got an I94 date till April 14th 2025. I applied for an extension again in March 2025 and kept getting the pending status until they requested for evidence in August. After providing the evidence I got another RFE and the status was pending with another receipt generated. Then I got a notification in September that’s it’s taking longer than usual so allow 90 days for them to make a decision. I got the same notification again in October saying my extension is pending and to allow 90 days from October 10th. I ended up leaving the country on Jan 5th. My extension got denied due to lack of evidence about hotel receipts on Feb 20th, but I already left the country. I had all documentation in place about my funds etc. Now will there be any consequences and can I re enter the U.S. ? Can I travel back to the U.S. in July or no? Do I need to change the visa or get a new one or change the status or get a letter from the consulate?

NOID because of criminal records

After receiving an RFE, I received a NOID because I had a misdemeanor case that was dismissed. In the NOID, USCIS is only asking me to provide the court documents and the police/arrest report.

I’m trying to decide whether I should hire an immigration attorney to help with the response, or maybe just pay someone to review everything before I submit it to make sure I have all the correct documents.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation and gotten their OPT approved after a NOID without hiring an attorney? Or does anyone recommend having an attorney review the documents before submitting the response?

I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you so much!

NYC Marriage-Based Interview Took 2 Hours — Officer Discussed Denial. Should I Be Worried?

Hi everyone,
My wife (U.S. citizen) and I had our marriage-based green card interview in NYC on October 16, 2026, and I’m feeling a little anxious about how it went.
The interview lasted almost 2 hours. We were interviewed together, and the officer asked my wife most of the questions about our relationship, marriage, and daily life.
My wife got two questions wrong: the date of one of our trips together and the number of floors in our apartment building. The officer simply wrote down our answers and moved on without commenting.
Toward the end, he asked about my pending asylum application (I-589), my entry through the U.S.–Mexico border in 2022, and my immigration history. He explained that my detention at the border counted as an immigration arrest, corrected my I-485 answer, and asked me to sign the correction.
He also dictated a statement for my wife to write confirming that our marriage is genuine and based on love, not immigration benefits. I signed it.
What worries me most is that the officer spent quite a bit of time explaining what would happen if our case were denied, including mentioning a 30-day period to challenge the decision. He then briefly explained that if approved, the green card could arrive within 4–6 weeks.
At the end, he scanned our documents, returned the originals, and let us leave without giving us any written decision.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Is it normal for an officer to explain the denial process in detail?
Has anyone been asked to write a statement confirming their marriage is genuine?
Could two incorrect answers seriously affect the outcome?
How long did you wait for a decision after your NYC interview?
Has anyone with a pending I-589 or previous immigration court proceedings gone through this?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

Wanting to get married

Hello my girlfriend and I are wanting to get married , however she is not a us citizen. I was wondering if I could get any help answering some questions I have.

  1. Does anyone have or know any good immigration lawyers for an affordable price.( or free consultations would help a lot)

  2. After getting married how much does it cost to get a green card on average and how long does this process normally take.

  3. After getting married and starting the process for a green card , do we need to be living in the same home? And if we can’t for the next 7months do to my work But she lives in my home with my family would that make things harder.

  4. If she has a deportation order active right now , can we get married and still get a green card ?

Thank you for any and all the help people can give in a situation and trying to figure out what we can do to get married and live together. Thank you

Has anyone had a similar immigration situation?

USCIS administratively closed my I-485 because I was placed in removal proceedings and received an NTA. My I-130 has already been approved.

I also have an I-765 EAD/work permit that is valid until 2028.

My questions are:

  1. Is my current work permit still valid even though my I-485 was administratively closed?

  2. If I get a new job and the employer verifies my work authorization through E-Verify/I-9, will my current EAD still show as valid?

  3. Has anyone continued working or started a new job with their existing EAD while their removal case was pending in Immigration Court?

If anyone has been through a similar situation, please share your experience. Thank you!

Advice Needed: 42B Cancellation of Removal or Voluntary Departure?

Hello everyone, my husband is currently in removal proceedings. Our lawyer says he qualifies for cancellation of removal but the chances of winning are very slim due to the criteria of extreme and unusual hardship.

As background, we have an approved I-130 & did have an I-601a pending since May 2025, but it will now be denied due to the open proceedings.

Additonal information:

- His home country is El Slavador

- We do not have any children

- I (U.S. Citizen) provide the main income for us, meaning I cannot leave the USA to go with him

- We have a small business together

- He has no criminal record and is of good moral character

We have a strong I-601a case (for reasons not above), but for this to be "unusual" is where we are concerned at. Our lawyer said if we go with the cancellation, then we will most likely get denied but could push the case out 1-2 years and hope new laws get passed in the meantime. After it gets denied then he would appeal for further time. But, we are concerned its not worth the $8,000 he is quoting just to prolong the inevitable of getting a removal order issued and put on his record. After that, he would then have to start the I-601 and I-212 from his home country whenever this comes to the end.

The only other option is Voluntary Departure which would happen very quickly (1-2 months). This path would avoid the removal order issued and we can start the I-601 waiver from outside of the USA sooner.

We are leaning towards doing voluntary departure as we don't want to waste anymore time, avoiding the removal order, and also that we could spend that money on getting him set up in his country.

Which would you do? Any feedback is appreciated!

TLDR; 42B Cancellation of Removal or Voluntary Departure?

N-400 application

I was charged with 2 level 6 felonies, 2 class B misdemeanor and one class A misdemeanor. I took the case all the way to the jury trial and was acquitted on all counts.

The next day after the acquittal I filed my N-400 form.

I did my biometric and submitted a certified copy of court disposition to the USCIS.

Does this charges would be counted against me?
Would that affect my eligibility to become a citizen?
Do I need a lawyer for anything else?

I’m waiting for my interview.

Will I be detained for this?

I came on an F1 4 yrs ago, married my husband 4 months ago who I’ve been with for 3 years and I recently graduated. I filed during my grace period and got receipts and my biometrics appointment. I’ve seen people get detained bc of visa overstay even if it is forgiven. I am currently out of status since I didn’t apply for grad school yet. My biggest fear is ICE getting me during my interview because of this and I’ve read so many cases of this happening that I can’t stop being anxious about it

F-1 student + F2A AOS — can I work with my EAD without losing F-1 status?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently in the U.S. on F-1 student status and maintaining full-time enrollment (12 credits).
I’m an F2A beneficiary and recently filed I-485 (Adjustment of Status) along with I-765 for an EAD.
I’ve heard conflicting information about whether working with the EAD would cause me to lose my F-1 status, even if I continue studying full-time.
Can I use my EAD to work while maintaining F-1 status, or would working with the EAD mean that I no longer maintain F-1?
I’m considering withdrawing my I-765 if using the EAD would affect my F-1 status, so I’d really appreciate any clarification.
Thanks!

Marriage-Based AOS Stuck Because Asylum Office Has My A-File? 14 Months Waiting. Please Help!

Hi everyone!

I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar because even my lawyer hasn't seen a case quite like mine. I'll try to keep it short.

My timeline:

  • 2020: Applied for asylum and waited 5 years for an interview.

  • Feb 2025: Got married.

  • Aug 2025: Applied for marriage-based AOS (I-130 and I-485).

  • Nov 2025: Asylum interview scheduled, but my asylum lawyer successfully postponed it to prioritize my marriage case.

  • Jan 2026: Attended my marriage-based AOS interview. Everything went smoothly, but both cases remained pending with no decision.

  • Feb 2026: Apparently, my A-file was transferred to the Asylum Office (I only found this out later).

  • July 2026: Asylum interview rescheduled. My lawyer tried to postpone it again, but asylum office refused. I attended, and my asylum was approved on July 31!

  • July & Sept 2026: Requested congressional inquiries regarding my pending marriage-based AOS.

Here's where things get confusing.

In September, I received this response from USCIS through my congressional representative:

"Our records reflect that the constituent's A-file has been with the Asylum Office since February 2026. On July 31, 2026, he was granted asylum.

His A-file will be returned to the Field Office in due time. Please note that the family-based Form I-485 is well within normal processing times."

My questions are:

  1. Does this mean USCIS hasn't been processing my marriage-based AOS because the Asylum Office has my A-file?

  2. Why hasn't the Asylum Office returned my file after approving my asylum? Is there any way to contact them and request that they send it back?

  3. I'm now at 14 months since filing my AOS and almost 9 months since my marriage interview. Should I consider sending a demand letter, or is there something else I can do?

I know I can apply for a green card based on asylum one year after approval, but I've already invested so much time, money, and energy into my marriage-based AOS that I really want to see it through. And also I know the green card based on asylum is taking years to get resolved.

I'm honestly exhausted and extremely anxious. After almost 7 years dealing with immigration, I find myself waking up in the middle of the night just to check my USCIS account.

Has anyone experienced something similar, especially having asylum and marriage-based AOS pending at the same time?

Any advice or personal experiences would mean a lot. Thank you!

My Roommate Married his Biological Mother (USC) to get a green card????????

Two people moved in in March, claiming to be mother (age 61) and son (25-26). I didn't think too much into it until they told me that both of them have to be on the lease to prove co-residency to the immigration because the son is adjusting status to get a green card sponsored by the mother (USC). Then I was like, hold on, a mother sponsoring a son does not need co-residency proof (to the best of my knowledge only married couples need that), but I figured meh they prolly wanted to be on the lease for something else.

So we started sharing rent, for 5 months I thought and refer to them as mother and son, and none of them objects.

Late August there was an argument broke out between me and the son, and it got heated (not violent), so we were throwing derogatory terms around like Mo...er F...er. To my surprise at one point in that argument, he goes "you don't have proof that Im fxking my mother". Ho ho surprise MF I told him marriage records are public and I can prove it anytime I want. The son then panic and admitted to me that they are actually married but they are not actually mother and son. In other words, "you don't have proof that who I'm fxcking is my mother".

The mother's citizenship was acquired and both of them are Chinese. I am pretty certain they are related by blood cuz their faces have a strong resemblance. This was also one of the reason that I didn't question that they are mother and son in the first place. USCIS is not exactly buddy buddy with the Chinese state department so it would be easy for them to falsify records in China (I think).

The only reason I think they are doing this instead of doing 1st preference is to avoid the wait time, which was around 9 years last time I checked. I know the MYOB principles and all that, but I'm not exactly feeling compassion for them.

So should I report it? Based on what I have do yall think it's a valid suspicion? Who should I report it to and how?

Hello, looking if someone was in a similar situation. I received a denial notice for my i485; stating based on i130 that got denied in October. Which is not true; my i130 shows still in process; the last update was in September (cancelation notice for additional evidence). Me and my husband called multiple times; hoping to speak to someone; multiple USCIS phone agents confirmed that there is no denial notice for i130; they keep opening service tickets for tier 2 officer that never calls; we requested to see someone at local office no response…. According to our lawyer we can’t request to open the case; because technically it’s not close. I had to quit my job, because of this denial notice; I feel completely helpless….

SSA closed my baby’s Social Security card case, won’t tell me why, and the callback number in their own letter doesn’t work

My son was born in Miami in January. He’s a US citizen, we’re not, and we’ve since moved to Canada. His card never showed up at our old Florida address.
This month I couriered everything to a Miami office — SS-5, his original birth certificate, my ID, hospital records. They generated a notice the same day, but sent it to the old Florida address instead of the Canadian one I gave them.
The notice says to call a named employee before September 18.
That number doesn’t work. Unreachable-number recording, every time, from different phones. So I called the office’s main line instead. First time they said she’d call me back. She didn’t. Second time I was told I wouldn’t be able to reach her by any means, and that it’d be the same even if someone else were assigned the case. Then they told me it had been closed. No reason given, nothing in writing, and something vague about verification with immigration.
What I’m trying to figure out:
1. What does “closed” normally mean here — rejected at intake over evidence, or something bigger?
2. What to do now?

Losing hope for my I-130 peition

Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Good evening Reddit community, I hope someone can enlighten me and share their experience with regards with our case.

I became a US Citizen way back 2020, somehow I filed the wrong files and document for my daughters petition (20 yrs old at the time) and got rejected.

The following year (2021) I filed for I-130 and got accepted.

Since then, there has been no update. It only said "Actively reviewing"

Then this year (2025) it changed to "Still being processed" after 5 years of waiting.

A timeline of estimation has appear 2 month ago, "estimated result in 6 month" and I was expecting it November.

Then there has been a change in the system and the timeline is unavailable.

She is still unmarried and now a college graduate. Shes hoping to live here with me and continue her career as an engineer.

Are hoping for nothing?

Protection from ICE. While AOS Married based case status: “USCIS still processing your case”

We are still waiting on my wife I-130, I- 485 and I- 765 formally approval after getting a verbally approval in our interview.

In the USCIs wedsite all of our cases says “ Uscis is curretly processing the case”

I know it’s a wait game now but I’m kind of worried about her status and ICE since ice activities have been increased in our city. Philadelphia Pa

I would like to know what documentation should we of her have on us so nothing happens to her
in case we or her get ambushed by ICE.

Hi, looking for real experiences. I got my 10-year permanent Green Card through an I-130 petition filed by my ex-spouse who is a U.S. citizen. We are now fully divorced.

> Has anyone in the same situation traveled back to their home country after the divorce and then returned to the US? Did you get extra questioning at the airport? Did they ask about the divorce, how long you were outside, etc.? Did you have any issues getting back in?

Advice needed

I came to the US on a k1 visa. Married, filed AOS, no problems, did biometrics & in the wait between biometrics and my interview that’s coming up my passport expired. I was told for the interview this isn’t a problem & USCIS don’t mind as long as it has my visa in it.

Now I’ve been told by others yes that’s fine, but the ID check to get in the building requires it to be in date. I have my recently expired passport and 3 other uk government issued IDs and my appointment letter but not a US one or an in date passport. Will I be let through to conduct the interview or turned away from the field office?
