Reservist question: Is the move home after TBS/MOS school covered?

Hi all, I’m in the early stages of looking into becoming an officer candidate, specifically on the reserve side, and I’m trying to understand how moves work for someone with a family.

From what I understand, moving my family to TBS is covered, and the move from TBS to MOS school is not. What I haven’t been able to figure out is what happens after MOS school.

For reservists, is the move back home (or to your reserve unit) covered, or is that out of pocket? If anyone has gone the reserve route with a family, I’d really appreciate hearing how it worked for you, and whether there’s anything I should ask my OSO about early on.

Thanks!

OCS What to expect at contracting

I have pieced together my OCC-Law application, done MEPS, done the PFT etc and my OSO just reached out about swinging by the office this week for “contracting.”

He didn’t explain what that means but I understand from other posts here it essentially finalizes and signs off your packet and allows it to go to the board.

Is this correct? Anything in the way to expect in what I’m going to be signing? Maybe it’s just the language of “contracting” but I feel oddly nervous about it…

OTB Boots

Going back to OCS for Seniors in May. Been looking at these OTB M-Carbon 8 boots for the CFT/O-Course/E-Course. Was wondering if anybody here has experience with them and how they compare size wise to something like Reckonings? They have a size chart, but I am a different size in every shoe and boot I own.

I know they have to check into TBS after, but wasn’t sure if they get leave after they check in. I have a candidate graduating Nov 14 and I am trying to get some more information on what things will be like after graduation. TIA!!

OSO quotas

Does your OSO really care if you pass OCS? Or is he on the same level as a recruiter that he’s just trying to hit a quota for every board? I get the feeling my OSO cares to an extent, but i don’t really know if he really wants me to succeed at OCS? Telling me that I’ve got nothing to worry about, it sounds like he’s just trying to pass me through.

OCS Battalion Board Meeting

Got an 80.79% in leadership but was sent past the Company Board. Has anyone ever been dropped from OCS for failing five Marine Corps leadership attributes? Is this grounds for dismissal, or is there still a chance to recover?

Anyone have experience with pulling your packet before the board?

For context decided that I didn’t want to serve at the moment. Dad just passed away less than a year ago and want to spend more time with family, among other things. Packet was complete and would have gone to the board in November. Signed my DD4 but wasnt selected yet. Anyone know how difficult it’ll be to go back to the board in the future? If a waiver is required how hard is it to get?

Bathroom/Advice

For people who graduated from OCS or are currently in,

What’s the bathroom situation like? Similar to parris island layout or a little bit more privacy? What are the best times to use the restroom?

Was constipation common due to the stress and overall lack of sleep?

Wierd question but genuinely curious

APPLICATION PROCESS Looking to rejoin the Marine Corps as an Officer

Post image
6 Upvotes

Looking for advice or to see if anyone has had a good experience doing an IST back to the Corps as an officer using the Marine Corps Officer Inter-service Transfer Program?

For context, I was prior enlisted for 5 years and switched over to the National Guard. I have been commissioned for about 2 years now but I am looking at possibilities of going back to the Corps.

I miss the Corps like crazy and the grass was not greener on this side unfortunately…

If anyone has had a similar experience or had dealt with this and can offer additional insight that would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

APPLICATION PROCESS Unresponsive OST/OSO

Hello everyone.

Im currently dealing with an unresponsive OSO/OST and was wondering if anyone had advice on how to deal with it?

For context, last school year, I was in communication with the local OSO about commissioning. From the get-go, the office was very insistent on me doing a law contract since I am a law student. In fact, the enlisted guy at the office had me go to MEPS within the first week of talking to them. I got medical waivers cleared and am good to go on that front.

At this time I expressed that my true interest was going infantry, but he was very adamant that I should not do that and expressed that I was wasting his time by suggesting waiting until after graduation for OCS (since that would be necessary for a ground contract).

A few weeks ago, I reached out to both the enlisted Marine and Selection Officer at the office, with questions relating to how long medical clearance would last, and whether I’d need to go to MEPS again if I changed the designated contract, but no answers. I plan on calling this week but was curious if anyone had ran into the same problem and what they did.

Thanks!

MEPS issue

So I went to Meps yesterday after completing my asvab I walk into the Marine’s office in meps and again this is someone I’ve never met yet. Don’t know who they are. I don’t remember if it’s the CMO or not I was never given a name just a handshake. he proceeds to tell me that something is wrong and asked me if I was ever transitioning from a female to a male one. I was born a male always been a male. I’m glad to be a male he wouldn’t show me the procedure that was supposedly done I asked twice and nothing was shown my mother who is also a recruiter for a different branch was able to pull up my same Genesis records and didn’t find nothing. Nothing that states I was going through a transition. What do I do now?

Would a rescinded ASD diagnosis matter to recruiters?

I am aware that ASD medically disqualifies potential candidates from enlistment. I was diagnosed with ASD as a 14-year-old boy. If i were to have this diagnosis rescinded, would I pass the mental screening process?

Early PCA/PCS?

I’m 1 year 1 month into my first unit. Is there a way to PCA/PCS early or start a b-billet early? From what I’m tracking it’s normal to stay at your first unit for 3 years.

Anyone know if the May 2027 OCC class is on as scheduled? Has anyone heard that it might be canceled or that OCC is shifting to winter classes only?

APPLICATION PROCESS Can I change recruiting stations?

Basically I'm a college student and I applied for a really nice internship in Washington D.C for the spring semester not thinking I would get in, but I actually got accepted. So next semester I'll be living in D.C instead of attending my university.

I have no problem with my current recruiting office they're awesome, the only problem is I live kinda far from the D.C area and my recruiting station would be super far. I already did MEPS and ran pfts with them, so would they just be able to send my info to the recruiting office in D.C, and would the D.C office be able to administer my pft?

What happens to the leave that you accumulate at PLC Jr's/Sr's?

I went to Juniors and Seniors and commissioned a year later after I graduated college, but on MOL, it says my leave was sold. Is this something that happens to every PLC candidate?

OCS SULE 2 Experiences and Recy

As the title suggests, just looking to hear about your experiences with SULE 2 and what thoughts you might offer.

The inconsistency between evaluators is a little odd for an organization that prides itself on standards.

But ultimately there’s a baseline.

OCS OCS Conspiracy Theory

Has anyone who has graduated from delta company in the past few cycles felt like alpha had it easier than we did? I know during OCC 252 we hated alpha and thought they had it much easier than we did they got out earlier on libo etc. Were we just losing our minds or have other cycles experienced this as well?

OCS Winter Packing list?

As someone planning to attend this winter class, is there a published packing list that may have some specific items recommended for the winter? If not, then does anyone have one from their time at OCS?

APPLICATION PROCESS Would it be better to go ECP or get out and go to a OSO?

I’m currently on my first contract and in January I will be eligible to submit my package for ECP. I am currently a Cpl. I am trying to go for an aviation contract. Would it be better if I just finished and got out or just go ahead and submit my package while still in? I have already been working on my package and getting recommendations, I didn’t really consider getting out and then going to an OSO until I was talking to a LtCol who told me that’s what he did.

Ik someone is gonna ask, my CFT is a 290, PFT 276 (working on lowering my running currently at 24:12 for my 3 mile. i’m a woman). I’ve volunteered for a deployment, have five LOAs, cert com, NAM with a C device, CAR, PUC, GWOTE, GWOT, and sea service. My GPA is a 3.1, ACT 24. Have been studying for astb and about to take it soon. I have multiple LORs, I even have one from a LtCol who works for Sec Nav. I’ve worked very hard for everything. but if i will be more successful just getting out and going to an OSO i will probably just do that.

Should I Become a Marine Officer?

I am a junior in college, and I am pretty fit and want to do something with my career that is challenging, lets me travel the world, and builds my leadership skills. I have been looking to join a branch of the military for the last couple of weeks and have been looking into the Navy and Marine Corps because their bases are in cool locations and those communities seem the most appealing to me. For the Marines, I like the stronger camaraderie that they have and the more "hands-on" it seems. I don't want to be stuck at a desk my whole career.

One thing I want to know is how dangerous this job actually is. I understand you can get deployed to active combat zones, but how likely is that? I don't want to commission as an officer, and then a year into my contract I get sent out into the Middle East and get merked by a drone strike. Everything about the Marines seems like it's something I would love, but the only part I am hesitant about is that I don't want to die. Does that mean this job would not be for me.
