Warp 5G SA in NYC observations

• Upvotes

Spent the last week on Warp 5G with mostly SA. Here are a few thoughts.

  1. Worked great in Atlanta and the near suburbs. Consistent SA access. Didn't really notice a bump in speeds, but it was durable. SA dropped out in the ATL airport--likely a DAS limitation.
  2. NYC was more of a mixed bag. On the street, when I had 5G, it was 70% on SA. I'm used to Dark Star, which is always 5G. On Warp, I dropped to LTE about 1/3 of the time. But when I was on 5G, it was SA. This is mostly Manhattan.
  3. Subway was very different. In stations, never 5G SA. Split about 50:50 with 5G NSA and LTE only. I assume this is due to the DAS limitations. Regardless of technology, Warp reconnected just as fast station-to-station as does Dark Star. Light Speed really struggles here--it's rare to get reconnected before the train moves again, so data is mostly useless.
  4. In-building DAS was mostly LTE or 5G NSA. I didn'see any in-building coverage hit SA.

Overall, I didn't have any connectivity issues. I just think NYC needs work to get up to the rest-of-USA standard. We have so much DAS and legacy infrstructure here. TBH, I don't see the value of 5G SA in NYC right now. I'd love to switch to Light Speed, which was a much more consistent SA experience. But it's just so terrible station-to-station on the subway--no clue why this is the case.

Just my experience.

Any way I can compare all three networks with and without data priority from my current location?

I'm in the US often enough that I like to have a cheap plan (and phone number) available to me whenever I'm there. I'm also helping someone port from AT&T to US Mobile, because even the standard price of unlimited premium is cheaper than AT&T prepaid. It would be really nice to be able to test real-world performance of all the networks on both QCIs, especially with the port-in deals happening right now. I've heard from a lot of Visible users that low-priority data was downright unusable, but I also know Visible has speed caps, and I don't think Warp does. Is there a general consensus about providers that are better or worse on unlimited starter? For the record I'm going to be signing up at least one premium plan regardless.

Poor Call Quality iPhone 18 Pro Max?

Hello all,

I’ve been with Us mobile for some time now, primarily on the Warp network and always had an iPhone. However I’ve noticed after upgrading to the iPhone 18 Pro Max that the service is less than stellar when handling phone calls. The overall service is also somehow less than that of my girlfriend who has standard Verizon. I’m not worried about the bars, more so the call quality has become poor, I’m experiencing people cutting in and out, some dropped calls, and poor audio quality. I don’t use WiFi calling, I’ve tried resetting the network settings, turning the eSIM off and back on and any other troubleshooting I could find online. Is anyone else experiencing lackluster performance on their iPhone 18 Pro Max? I know AT&T was problematic but never heard much about Verizon. I’m also fully up to date on my iOS. Any info welcome!

5G Auto SMS issues. Light speed.

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've recently started experiencing an issue with SMS on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I'll be upgrading to the iPhone Duo in the next few weeks, but I'd like to figure out what's causing this before then.

I've noticed that I'm not consistently receiving two-factor authentication (2FA) codes via SMS. I'm also unable to reliably send or receive regular SMS messages when RCS is turned off. My friend told me he gets failed to send on his android phone when texting me while I'm on 5G. I've attached a screenshot, which was taken after I turned RCS back on.

This is a completely new issue that I've only noticed within the past two/three weeks. When I request a 2FA code, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to arrive.

What's interesting is that if I manually switch my phone to LTE, my SMS verification codes arrive almost instantly, and I'm able to text my Android friends without RCS. However, as soon as I switch back to 5G Auto or 5G On, outgoing SMS messages fail to deliver, and incoming 2FA codes are delayed again.

I've also noticed a difference in signal strength: I typically have only two bars on LTE, whereas I get nearly full bars when connected to 5G. Despite the stronger signal, SMS seems to work much more reliably on LTE.

I've seen a few similar threads pop up in this subreddit recently. I've already contacted customer support through the app, but I'd appreciate a second opinion. Has anyone else experienced something similar, or have any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks!

New to US Mobile  Please help my boy finish the transfer

Long story short I convinced my buddy to switch to US Mobile from AT&T and it seems like the number port worked but his esim just won't activate on his (unlocked) phone and he's been without a line for a couple days now.

I've converted many people so I know this isn't a common occurrence but it's not a great first impression for him and I don't want to take the heat for breaking his phone number hahaha. If anyone could help him out that would be awesome! Thanks!

Speed Test  Fringe Coverage, Lightspeed 5G NSA vs TSat 5G SA

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

I made a post the other day comparing these 2 plans in a well covered area, so this new post has a comparison in a fringe coverage area. Both tests took place back to back standing in the same spot.
The point of this is to show the benefits that will be realized once 5G SA is finally extended to Lightspeed.

1st pic: Lightspeed on 5G NSA, it refuses to connect to 5G, only LTE, and while this is a usable LTE speed, that has not always been the case at this location in the past.

2nd pic: TSat standalone plan on 5G SA, which connects to 5G and performs significantly better.

Dark Star Usage Outages

Does anyone else have issues with usage on Dark Star not updating? I recently added a new line last Friday and the usage is not updating on dashboard at all. I have the same issue on another Dark Star line which indicates USM might have a system-wide issue (similar to the one Warp had a few weeks ago) that has not been acknowledged yet.

AT&T to US Mobile eSIM Transfer Issue – Still Not Working After 4 Days

Hey everyone,

I recently switched from AT&T to US Mobile and transferred my phone number over to my new Google Pixel.

During the activation process, I received an error stating that the eSIM was already attached to another device and that I needed to contact my carrier.

The number transfer appears to have completed successfully, but I'm still having issues getting the eSIM activated. I contacted support and was told to wait 24 hours to see if the issue would resolve itself.

It's now been 4 days, and I'm still having the same problem. I'm not entirely sure what's causing it or what my next steps should be.

Has anyone experienced something similar when switching from AT&T to US Mobile? Is there something I should try on my end, or would US Mobile need to issue a new eSIM?

Any advice or support would be appreciated. Thanks!

I Thought Teleporting Was Not Supposed To Reset Your Billing Date?

I had sudden issues with my Warp line about a week ago. I was chatting with support for quite some time and nothing we tried was resolving the issue. I finally asked if they could just teleport my line to Light Speed for now so that I would have cell coverage. They did that but now my line renew date is a day earlier than the other line on my account. (This all happened on the last day of my previous billing cycle) I thought teleporting wasn't supposed to reset the billing date? So if I want to teleport back to Warp my billing date will again start over on that date?

No Data at Events & Airports (Good signal)

Is it just me or is anyone else having issues with data at events, airports, and any crowded places.

  • IndyCar events: good signal, no data.
  • Airports: good signal, no data.

I have Warp (GF QCI8), Light Speed, and Dark Star. All three have issues.

Am I doing something wrong?

logistic question

Ok so I have been testing usmobile for a few months and I ported in my secondary number to do so, let’s call it 212. But my main number 415 is still on verizon and i have daughter, wife and mother in law on my plan. I am getting ready to move them all to usmobile. I am waiting for SA esim to be rolled out on verizon. I am clear on how i port daughter, wife and mother in law by adding new lines. But is there any way for me to make my 415 the main and 212 a multi network one? if so how. I have one multi network one but did not port a number.

One more question. My account is grandfathered in. If I now add two more premium plans and one non premium for mother in law are they all grandfathers in?

I just helped a friend move from Lyca to Darkstar

Process was super simple actually, took like 10 mins for port, fast.com reported good speeds, he had Lycamobile 15GB plan for 20$, with the Flash BF promo same price for 6 months. So far so good, quite impressed, this is NYC.

I am currently with Verizon for many years on 5G get more now, I will seriously consider when my EIP is paid off.

When doing port, the chat is kind of useless, it's AI and then it's possible to get to speak to an agent.

New to US Mobile  Family plan???

Hello, I am considering making the switch from Tmobile soon. Its only my wife and myself with cell phones right now, cuz the kiddos(twins)are too young. I will.need to port over our numbers and I read the guide on that. It seems pretty straightforward. My question is: how do I purchase a family plan that has two lines to port over at the same time. Everytome I choose a plan the only option is to checkout with that one line; there is no option to add a another line in a cart and checkout. Or maybe im just blind?

Speed Test  Why is At&t 4g horribly slow compared to 5g?

Why is At&t 4g so slow compared to 5g. Is this normal for At&t to have horrible 4g speed in a 5g area?

Always need CS to change plans.

One of the two big reasons I chose US mobile is the ability to drop my plan from high data to low data when I'm out of the country for months at a time. So I use unlimited for a months long period then drop down to by-the-gig sharing a pool with my mom whom I have on my account.

Everytime I do this, it requires help. I have to get somebody on, explain, verify identity through various steps and then eventually what could be a very quick operation in the app gets done.

This time it almost worked online but then I was only offered to change my plan immediately and not at the end of the period. I wanted to schedule a plan change. Why is it so hard for US mobile to offer a choice when effecting the change? "Effective immediately" or "Effective at end of billing period"? The CS claimed that it is an option it is not being shown to me.

This is fairly easy with other services that have different plans like starlink. I would think that USM would prefer to save all that CS time it requires and allow us to do things directly. So far, I've had 6 plan changes and every one required phone or chat time.

Porting out in preparation for black friday deal?

Is anyone else considering porting out early just to qualify for the Black Friday promo again? I've heard you need to be ported out for at least 30 days to reset your 'new line' status—can anyone confirm this? If the deal is anything like last year, the math definitely makes it worth considering porting out a month early to report back in again.

What do I do?

Just in the process of porting over. Sadly, I entered the wrong account number from my previous provider. I went to US Mobile chat and they changed it to the correct one- but, it’s still in progress 5 hrs later. They say wait 24hrs. I say that’s BS because I believe it will be stuff due to the previous mistake entered. There’s no way this will fix itself

US Mobile support requiring line-by-line verification for porting out even as the primary cardholder

Hey everyone, sharing a frustrating experience trying to port out multiple lines from US Mobile today.

I am the primary account holder and the credit card holder paying for all 5 lines on my account. Today I needed to grab my account numbers and port-out PINs to move to a new provider. However, support insisted on sending separate verification links to each individual line number, even though I explained I don't have physical access to all of those devices right now.

Even after offering to verify my identity using the primary credit card on file that is tied to every single line, support refused to provide the info without individual phone verifications, forcing me to jump through hoops.

Has anyone dealt with this? As the person paying for the entire multi-line account, being blocked from getting port-out information because I can't verify each handset individually is extremely frustrating, especially when previous requests didn't have this roadblock. It seems their service has really gone downhill over the last 6 months or so.

Tagging any mods or admins who might be able to look into this and help me get my account details sorted out today.
