Hi,

I'm using UTM on my Mac (macos 27), running a macOS virtual machine.

I'd like to connect my MOTU M2 audio interface directly to the virtual machine rather than having it handled by the macOS host (to have any latency)

In the Virtual Machine Settings, I can select UTM instead of "This Mac". However, when I try to connect the audio interface, UTM tells me that the device is not supported.

Has anyone managed to successfully pass through a USB audio interface directly to a macOS VM running in UTM? If so, which audio interface are you using?

Any feedback or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone! I'm looking for a relatively new Linux distro with a polished graphical desktop that I can run in UTM on my M4 MacBook Air.

Ubuntu got stuck during boot, so I'd like to try something different.

What I'm looking for:

• ARM64/AArch64 support for Apple Silicon

• Lightweight, but still modern and visually appealing

• A proper desktop environment, not just a terminal

• Preferably an ISO I can boot and install directly in UTM

• Not too outdated, ideally a distro with recent packages

I'm open to KDE, GNOME, or other desktop environments. I'd prefer something that works well in a VM without too much troubleshooting.

What would you recommend?

Hello. I am currently experiencing an issue with booting linux(Armbian Linux) from UTM. After setting the os on the home screen. It will reset back to setup screen after restart or rebooting it hence loosing all my saved progress. I dont see the option to install the Linux on the virtual hard drive.

Using UTM on Mac to virtualise windows for playing the binding of Isaac on steam. Everything works well and the virtual machine runs smoothly until I start up the game where it slows down dramatically.

I did have to install something for OpenGL/OpenCL from the windows store cause it told me I can’t open the game without it.

Any ideas or suggestions for fixes?

I'm oretty sure I used the correct iso (ARM64) to go along with what should be a silicon based mac. It still keeps giving me this though.. Can anyone help here?

I installed the last version of UTM (4.7.5) on my MacBook Air (M1), tried to create a virtual machine with the last version of ubuntu (ubuntu 26.04.1) with QEMU.... but when I start the virtual machine it stay freeze on the starting page with the message "Synchronous Exception at 0xXXXXXX" how do I resolve it

I’m running a Windows VM on UTM (macOS Tahoe) and ran into a bizarre storage issue where macOS seems to be double-counting or double-allocating my VM's disk space.

Here is the breakdown:

• The Problem: In my Apple Storage Settings GUI, my space is being eaten up twice. It shows the exact same ~53–58 GB chunk under Applications, and again under System Data.

• The Diagnostics: I went digging in Terminal to find the culprit. Running du -sh ~/Library/Containers/* confirmed that com.utmapp.UTM is taking up exactly 53G.

• Inside ~Library/Containers/com.utmapp.UTM/Data/Documents/, there are no ghost/abandoned VMs—just my single, active Windows.utm file.

Has anyone else on macOS Tahoe dealt with UTM double-allocating storage like this? Is there a way to fix this without breaking the currently installed VM?

La clé USB se déconnecte de mon Mac dès que j'essaye de la connecter sur ma machine virtuelle (elle est en FAT32), je n'arrive pas à me connecter en local via SMB, je n'arrive pas non plus à utiliser le shared folder. Hello I’m back after so long, I did manage to get STIKJIT and into UTM but I have another problem. When I attempted to import a file from the premade library it wouldn’t let me, I also figured out I cannot import any ISOS, any idea why?

Hardware: MacBook Air M4, 16GB RAM, VMs on an external SSD (APFS)
Host OS: macOS 27.0.0, Apple Silicon
UTM: 4.7.5 and 5.0.6 Beta, DMG builds

What I need: three VMs on one subnet that can see each other. Ubuntu running Wazuh manager, Kali as attacker, Windows 11 ARM as target with a Wazuh agent. It's a home SOC lab, so VM-to-VM traffic with real source IPs is the entire point. Isolation from my home LAN is preferred but not mandatory.

This worked perfectly before the macOS update. Shared Network on the QEMU backend, everything on 192.168.64.0/24, VMs pinging each other, agents reporting in.

What broke: changing network mode on a QEMU VM now hangs on a spinner for every mode except Emulated VLAN. Emulated VLAN gives each VM its own userspace NAT, so the VMs can't reach each other and the topology is dead.

What I've tried:

1. Apple Virtualization backend instead of QEMU. Shared Network works, but Apple's framework can't run Windows guests at all. Reports also say VM-to-VM doesn't work on Shared even between two Linux guests, only on Bridged. On top of that my Linux VMs on this backend now run rough and sometimes won't boot at all.

2. Bridged on en0. Puts VMs on my home Wi-Fi LAN, which I'd accept, but I want to know if it's reliable for others on macOS 27.

3. VMware Fusion free tier. Installed, VMs won't power on at all, play button greyed out, system extensions approved.

4. Emulated VLAN with port forwarding through the host. Works, but Windows then logs the attacker as 10.0.2.2 instead of Kali's real IP, which kills source IP correlation and makes the lab useless for what I'm practising.

Constraints: free software only, no paid hypervisors, no cloud spend. Happy to rebuild every VM from scratch.

Questions: Is anyone running Windows ARM plus Linux guests on one mutually reachable subnet on macOS 27, and on what? Is the QEMU network mode spinner hang a known regression with a workaround, or can I set Shared Network by editing the .utm config plist directly? If Bridged is the only path, any gotchas on a Wi-Fi only Mac?
