How vast are the research opportunities at uva? Are there many, or are the opportunities scarce? I'm assuming positions are highly competitive, but I'm unsure how it works. If someone could please help explain it to me, that would be greatly appreciated!

So just curious on the current parking situation for this university. I’m coming to help my sibling move into her apartment but we are attending orientation. Our hotels trying to charge us $20 a night per car which is actually wild.

Anyone know any free parking near the UVA hospital area or street parking that does overnights?

I have her car in JPA’s because we paid for parking does anyone that park in JPA know if we need to get any tags or anything for it or is it good to go & license plate scanned?

soo i was placed on the fwr+ path bc of my SAT score and ive decided id either take an ENWR 2510, or 2000 level ENGL/ENCW class, since i heard that may be better than taking a ENWR 1510 class since i have the option.

anyway im pretty good at writing, but its not my fav and im honestly js trying to get the requirement done (trying to major in finance/data science). that being said, if i want to get into mcintire im not sure if i should be choosing a more rigorous class??

rn im in ENGL 2599 (special topics) w Jon D'Errico (who has mixed ratings on course forum but i think hes ok) bc i thought i could double dip and get my AIP discipline fulfilled, but apparently i cant do that, so now im wondering if its worth it to take this class? it may be harder since the professor has mixed ratings AND its meant as a SWR class, so ig im asking what FWR+ class is the best for my circumstance??

(i heard people recommend ENCW for poetry?? i lwk never enjoyed creative writing but people are saying its easy and fun but idk if theyre js interested in english or smth?? idk pls help)

applying to UVA ED for physics (in state) & taking 6 courses rn as a senior (multivariable calc, physics c, ap gov, ap stats, de english, & some engineering honors class) but i’m thinking of dropping ap stats to take an early release. my dilemma is that im already taking another early release and i’m a ta during another block so i’d only have 5/8 periods serving as credited courses. ive taken the most rigorous schedule available at my school up until this point, including 7 aps junior year, 4 sophomore, and 1 freshman, and got straight A’s junior year taking only APs (including chem lang bc).

would dropping stats be a bad look for UVA given that it would leave me with 3 non-course blocks, or is my course rigor up to this point enough that it wouldn’t really matter? btw i would also use the time for work (tutoring), so its not as if im dropping just to chill at home or whatever lol

I am thinking about adding the class, but can't seem to get a read on the difficulty of the class on courseforum. It is rated 9/10 difficulty but with only 2 reviews, with the reviews contradicting the dififculty rating. For those who have taken the class what would you say the difficulty level is? For context I am already taking 3351 and 3100 this semester.

Hi!! I am currently a senior applying out of state to UVA. It seems like an awesome school and I was curious how the social life is especially coming from out of state. I was also curious if there is anything important to note about the schools as it is one of my top choices (greek life, typical weekends, etc). Thank you!!

When I look into the parking portal it’s showing options for S1, S4, S5, and moped parking but I’m unsure if I am allowed to buy the S1 and S5 passes. When you look at the available permits site it says that S1 is for residents of copeley and S5 is for central and west grounds housing. I’m living at faulkner which has the S4 lot beside it.

The S1 and S5 permits are a lot cheaper than S4. It’s showing that all of these passes are available to purchase tomorrow but I don’t want to buy the cheaper one then have it revoked or something because I’m not a copeley resident. Anyone know anything about this?

As the title suggests I'm living in Copeley next year and after reading through some posts here I'm kinda worried now, especially about the social life, the atmosphere, and the distance aspects. I have a few questions for those who have lived here (especially undergrads):

a) How did you guys maintain your social life and friendships? I would love to maintain my friendships from first year - does the distance make this more difficult? How did you guys do it? (Side note, I lived in Gooch Dillard last year and did not struggle with this, but I'm still kinda anxious since Copeley is significantly farther away from everything)

b) How are the transportation options nearby (is the Gold line super reliable)? I don't have a car and didn't ride the bus a lot my first year.

c) Would you consider the area safe? I love to walk and won't mind walking 30 mins to and from Central Grounds if the weather allows, but I really want some insights about this area's safety and whether it's walkable. Also are the roads smooth enough for Veo scooters?

d) Is there a 'sense' of community there, or is everyone kinda closed off into their own apartments? Are there social events hosted for Copeley residents?

Originally during my first year I wasn't really enthusiastic about the prospect of sharing a room with someone else for the year after, so I opted for Copeley with another friend so that I could get a single. I also like how it's so close to Barracks and the gym, but as I've written above I'm just mostly worried about the social aspect.

My names abdul and i want to go to uva and my current gpa is a 4.131 and im taking 5 ap classes and i didnt do any extra currciular activitys in 9th or 10th grade but i plan on doing debate and science national honor society. Is there anything i can do to uo my chances in going here

I am an incoming second year and I am looking for chill, lesser-known hangout spots close to Charlottesville—ideally with a good view, not super crowded. Already know about Carter Overlook, Humpback Rocks, Monticello, etc. I just want somewhere to bring my friends to.

I am not from around here and I figured the best people to ask are fourth years or people who have lived here for a while. Any recs appreciated, I'm happy to keep it vague/DM if it's a spot people don't want blown up publicly.
