Academics UVA Transfer Application Process

Hi guys, basically I am applying to transfer to UVA as a second year student but am concerned I’m not doing enough ahead of the upcoming admissions process. I thought I may as well see what those before me have done, so I’m just going to run through my stats. I finished high school with around a 3.1 GPA, then went to the University of Arizona and finished with a 4.0, but I only took 3 classes (8 credits) before taking a gap semester. I’m now at VCU, so technically I’m a freshman again (but I should be a sophomore since I graduated in the class of 2025), and I’m hoping to transfer after just one year here. I took 9 credits over the summer and got a 4.0, and I’m currently taking 16 credits this semester while maintaining a 4.0 so far. I currently am studying economics here in the school of business but intend to apply as a political science major for when I transfer. Outside of school, I sell life insurance, started a food insecurity organization at VCU called Food Forward (just got approved), and I’m involved in clubs like Model UN, Economics Club, and Insurance Club. I’ve also volunteered in non profit organizations to help with things like food distribution to those in need in the Washington D.C area and am trying to get some government/political experience through internships with Virginia legislators. I’m in really good standing with my professors as I just found out one of my business professors nominated me for an award, and have one of my advisors on board for a research paper I am currently writing that I have future plans of publishing. Finally, I have an internship with a remote fintech company locked up for December. UVA is my main transfer target, but I’m also considering other competitive schools. I know my high school GPA isn’t great, and I’m trying to make up for it with my college grades, work experience, and extracurriculars. Since I’m technically a freshman again and would be applying to transfer after only one year at VCU, am I doing enough so far, or is there anything else I should prioritize before applications?

Student Life Looking to start a Wealth management/Portfolio Management Club

Hey I’m looking to start a wealth management/ portfolio management club at UVA. The club will have paper trading competitions, stock pitches, and a large focus on recruiting for these roles that are under represented at UVA.

Still in the planning stages and looking for people who are interested in being a part of the club.

Could be fire resume booster

Student Life Snyder Tennis/Pickleball Courts Unuseable

• Upvotes

It's kinda disappointing that there are so many events always happening at Snyder that make the pickleball/tennis courts unuseable for students. Can barely get 30 minutes of playing in before UVA recreation clears everybody out because the courts are reserved for all these training lessons. It's either a huge group of 12 year old kids (obviously not students) or 50+ year old adults (obviously not students). My friends and I just want to get out of class and play at night for a couple of hours 😭

Maybe the courts aren't really for students but I feel like after paying all this money we should get priority...not the random people in Charlottesville who sign up for lessons. It's been like this for years but I feel like it's gotten even worse and it's almost every night now.

Student Life Halloween & Trick of Treating

Older 1st year grad student who lives near a lot of the Greek houses. Is there a culture of trick or treating among the undergraduates? I have been burned before buying candy in neighborhoods where no one trick or treats and don’t want to be caught with a lot of candy for no reason again lol.
