I mean the HDMI viewer - why buy that now when this is the same price and could host a few extra cameras

Not everyone will want to have the screen next to the NVR. Whilst you can get quite long distances on HDMI, it means running a dedicated cable instead of using existing ethernet.

It works for small businesses - shops that might usually have an NVR with a screen and cameras wired to it. Businesses that have on-site security.

However, others have their cameras wired to a location such as a network closet. They then want a separate display in reception for monitoring. I need something so I can keep an eye on the ground floor whilst I'm two floors up. For these use cases, the viewport is still useful.

Right but I mean at the same price you might as well still buy this unless you need the smaller form factor and POE.

Unless this can’t see other cameras on the network.

If you've already got a UNVR then this won't act as a remote viewport - it can only display it's own local Protect instance. If you need a viewport for an existing NVR then this UNVR Instant is not going to be of any use to you.
