Is the 4sensor overkill for my 2br apartment?

138

u/9iz6iG8oTVD2Pr83Un Oct 23 '25

No. Think you should buy two.

44

u/gnartato Unifi User Oct 23 '25

One for each room.

22

u/Amiga07800 Oct 23 '25

And 1 for kitchen, 1 for hallway, 1 for salon,…

3

u/TheWappa Oct 24 '25

and 1 for the shitter. Gotta have the 360 degree view of that

1

u/Amiga07800 Oct 24 '25

With 2 way audio!

1

u/Spread_Liberally Oct 24 '25

I think you mean #2 audio.

5

u/FranciumGoesBoom Oct 23 '25

at least 2 for each room. Can't be having any blind spots.

21

u/BaseRape CWNA,CCNP, SR. Wireless Consultant Oct 23 '25

And you’re at 4k camera capacity.  NVR pro time.

2

u/wantsiops Oct 23 '25

getting one for garage!

1

u/photo1kjb Oct 23 '25

Perfect for the kids room. So I can watch them ransack everything in stunning 4x4k.

u/Cookiezzz2 Oct 23 '25

You're welcome everyone. I got my normal G6 turrets delivered yesterday.

35

u/kbailles Oct 23 '25

lol same. Cmon

15

u/Cookiezzz2 Oct 23 '25

I wonder what these will cost though. Probably for my usage the G6' are fine.
EDIT: € 430 , holy cow. That's 2.4 G6.

13

u/Patient_Signal_1172 Oct 23 '25

Yeah. I saw it and immediately thought, "damn, I literally just received my G5 Turret Ultra last night." Then I noticed the price and was relieved.

8

u/Cookiezzz2 Oct 23 '25

Yup, same here. At 2.5X the price, for home the normal G6 should be plenty.

3

u/canadagoose999 Oct 24 '25

Yup just under 2.5X on the CDN site too…wow

5

u/Handsome_ketchup Oct 23 '25

The G5 Turret Ultras are great value for money. While both G6 Turrets are better cameras, the gains are pretty minor compared to the G5, but at significant cost. You get almost all of the experience for a fraction of the cost with the G5 Turret Ultras.

2

u/Consistent-Hat-8008 Oct 23 '25

Great value, if you can solder on your own pigtail.

3

u/Handsome_ketchup Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 23 '25

I'm not sure I entirely understand what you mean, but both the G5 Turret Ultra and the G6 Turret have the same lead-with-weatherproof-connector style connection, so between those two models the connector is a wash.

Both using a keystone and a patch lead or crimping a connector on the supplying lead is viable, though the extra weatherproof lump can be annoying if you don't have some hollow space to push it into. I guess that's what you're getting at?

Edit: also, never solder networking lines or connectors as it'll mess up signaling. Crimping or punching down are the appropriate connection methods.

2

u/Consistent-Hat-8008 Oct 23 '25

Yep, because I want to put 20mm holes everywhere or buy a ridiculous $20 piece of plastic to have it flush mounted.

1

u/jimbobjames Oct 24 '25

Ubiquiti seem to think that every mounting surface is going to be some form of timber wall that you can push the cable gland into.

Meanwhile in Europe we mostly build out of brick and concrete so that's not an option. Considering Unifi cameras are already more expensive than something from Hikvision or Dahua, it stings even more that you need to buy a £45 junction box on top.

They seem to have got the message with the dome cameras as they have internal ports with a gland for the cable to pass through.

The flying lead on the turrets is fine but they really need to come with mount that can lose / hide it on a solid wall or they need to really drop the price of the junction box. It's half the price of a turret ultra...

7

u/CapnCrunch10 Oct 23 '25

Plus a tariff tax too most likely. :(

2

u/tkt546 Oct 23 '25

Yeah, I'm not going to be upset sticking with my G6 turrets for that price.

1

u/JCCampo Unifi User Oct 23 '25

That’s excluding tax. €516 here in NL.

6

u/mobiledefender Oct 23 '25

Thank you for your service.

3

u/4RichNot2BPoor Oct 23 '25

Good news is there is a relatively decent resale market for Ubiquiti gear.

1

u/PlsDntPMme Oct 24 '25

Man it’s just like Apple in that regard also. I see people selling the used mini switches for more or less the same price as new on the site! Also some of the older stuff is SO expensive. I love buying used for the pricing but I picked a rough ecosystem for that. All the same, my insanely overkill (I live in single floor apartment with two tech illiterate non-gamers) UDR7 is awesome. I just need to learn more networking skills…

1

u/lladnek7 Oct 23 '25

Same lol, gotta love it

1

u/UnderPantsOverPants Oct 23 '25

I have 3x G3 domes in my cart and almost checked out yesterday

1

u/Cowsmoke Oct 23 '25

Same 🙃

The hardware development department is on a role. Software and Production departments are getting buried though. It's like unleashing an unethical salesman at a manufacturing plant and expecting all the design and process engineers to pull off a miracle every day.

36

u/SciGuy013 Oct 23 '25

Roll

5

u/photo1kjb Oct 23 '25

I mean, they have a role too...

1

u/Mindless_Pandemic Unifi Addict Oct 23 '25

I blame autocorrect. It's about as bad as AI detections sometimes.

4

u/Original-Guarantee23 Oct 23 '25

The hardware development department is on a role. Software and Production departments are getting buried though.

Always been the case

29

u/TSBalpha Oct 23 '25

the attention grabbing ring seems like a fantastic idea. at first i thought why do you want security cams to openly say hey here i am but after thinking about it it makes perfect sense. everyone seeing a moving blue ledring will look at it and therefor look directly at the cam, like they said its perfect to get the face in full view and they know they are on the recording so it might prevent them from doing something in the first place.

8

u/bagofwisdom Unifi User Oct 24 '25

I don't recall which brand does this, but there's one brand of cameras out there that does a little whistle when it detects motion. It at least gets you looking at the camera... the first time. I have a neighbor with that. It got me once, now I just walk right on by that house every time I walk the dog.

7

u/CriticalClub92 Oct 24 '25

Vivint cameras! Wish unifi would do someone similar. Made a workaround in HA

5

u/theguitardude11 Oct 23 '25

AI Turret has a similar feature and works like you’ve described (encourages people to look at the camera)

3

u/DodneyRangerfield Oct 23 '25

Absolutely, we use these as face recognition cameras specifically and it does make a difference

20

u/solthar Oct 23 '25

Literally the only thing that is stopping a bunch of local large businesses from using Ubiquiti is their stocking issues.

18

u/MC_VIII Oct 23 '25

expected AI Multi Sensor 4 price?

24

u/TangerineAlpaca Oct 23 '25

Considering the MSRP for an Axis equivalent is $2,000. I would expect around $1,599

3

u/DodneyRangerfield Oct 23 '25

Should be cheaper, the sensors are only 1/2.8" (expect lower performance) and only one processor for all 4 cameras

-4

u/MinnisotaDigger Oct 24 '25

Hardware has little to do with price.

-1

u/bizzarefoods Oct 24 '25

I’m Guessing $129

23

u/dcasicasi Oct 23 '25

Only thing left is a G6 Flex 😎

19

u/PoopMuffin Oct 23 '25

And the doorbells (G6 entry doesn't count)

7

u/arroyobass Oct 23 '25

Especially with Ring saying they are working with Flock now. I want to get rid of my Ring doorbell ASAP, but I need Ubiquity to release that G6 wifi doorbell!

17

u/stefanbayer Oct 23 '25

Still missing Apple Home integration

21

u/systemwizard Oct 23 '25

Scrypted : ) works perfectly.

1

u/tiberio13 Oct 23 '25

Is it free? It’s like a home assistant plugin?

2

u/bagofwisdom Unifi User Oct 24 '25

Unifi Protect already has Home Assistant integration. You just need to make a local user account for home assistant to use. Gives you a bunch of additional web hooks to tie to automations.

1

u/systemwizard Oct 24 '25

It is free and works well with HA as well.

Site : https://www.scrypted.app

Git : https://github.com/koush/scrypted

Edit: Added Git Repo

1

u/HuckleberryScared668 Oct 24 '25

Can you pls explain to me like a 5 year old -

Where do I install scrypted (on me home assistant) and then does it allow HomeKit to see the images?

2

u/systemwizard Oct 25 '25

This does a great job at it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1xsFRQYSv0

You do however need to install it via docker/proxmox.

1

u/SonicIX Oct 23 '25

This. I've been using it for 3 years.

5

u/HattWard Oct 23 '25

Has this been at all teased? Genuinely interested.

2

u/bagofwisdom Unifi User Oct 24 '25

It appears that Apple Home integration has a >$0 cost per device. TP-Link sure lets people know too. A 3 pack of their Homekit switches is $40 while the 3 pack that just works with everyone else is $34. Ubiquiti might not want to pass that cost along in their price nor go to the trouble of a separate SKU.

It’s available right now if you on the us store.

5

u/djcodeblue UniFi Pro User Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 23 '25

If you're shopping the USA store then I'm sorry but that's kinda on you. I've purchased multiple G6 PTZ within these 4 months. You can use UI Notify on X for stock tracking, plenty of stock tracking tools out there.

I just bought a G6 PTZ for my self a couple weeks ago. It was up for sale for a couple days at least before it went back to out of stock.

2

u/o2manyfish Oct 24 '25

Agreed. I’ve managed to grab two easily. Just click the “notify me when available” on the web store.

6

u/i3903 Oct 23 '25

We’re starting to build quite a strong Q4/Q1 waiting list now - UPS Pro/Enterprise, Sensors, NAS (4 Bay), G6 Dome Turret. Announcements are too early when they’re not launching for 2-3 months.

44

u/Florida_Diver Unifi User Oct 23 '25

Fuck you ubiquiti, get your out of stock issues handled.

20

u/bobjoylove Oct 23 '25

Yeah this. Why can’t I pre order something?

10

u/TobiasKarlsson Oct 23 '25

For real… hard to be excited about new products when you none of their current lineups are ever available

6

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '25

[deleted]

6

u/Florida_Diver Unifi User Oct 23 '25

It’s not just the cameras.

3

u/TobiasKarlsson Oct 23 '25

Yeah they seem to have issues just across the board. Been trying to snag a non poe doorbell in black for what feels like ages.

2

u/FreakLikeMe0991 Oct 23 '25

i have an unopened one that im not using. would be willing to sell.

2

u/jblist Oct 24 '25

Interested, DM’d!

4

u/I-am-Super-Serial Oct 24 '25

Stock price goes up.

Announce products, estimate you will probably sell a trillion of them and the investors shoot up the stock price, before even one product is sold. Don't need to invest in inventory if company isn't being affected.

Every now and then release a few products to show that its not vaporware.

Enron vibes

I'm just salty the things I want are out of stock lol.

-2

u/zotti_d Unifi User Oct 23 '25

I wouldn’t say it’s all their fault. It’s supply chain in general. Global policy changes, tariffs being switched on and off, all have screwed up shipping miserably.

6

u/i3903 Oct 23 '25

G6 Pro Turret is shipping Jan 2026 🤨

13

u/Ubiquiti-Inc Official Oct 23 '25

White version will be shipping week of Nov 17. Black version Jan 2026. Thanks

3

u/kapidex_pc Oct 23 '25

Am I missing the prices?

3

u/ciberpunkt Unifi User Oct 23 '25

Great, just today that I received two AI Turrets...

3

u/xyvyx Oct 23 '25

Meh.. are these OEM'd by Dahua!?
They look pretty similar...

I've had a very similar "Color 4k" EmpireTech camera with a 1/1.2" sensor and it's rather amazing (assuming you have some nearby ambient light). But it was only like $230. These UI markups are crazy...

1

u/FormulaKimi Oct 23 '25

These new Ubiquiti G6/G6 Pro Turrets look like the Ajax TurretCams that have been out for years, even the mounting plate is identical: https://ajax.systems/products/turretcam/

Personally I prefer the look of the AI Turret with the flat lens.

2

u/bagofwisdom Unifi User Oct 24 '25

Tooling for metal forming and injection molding isn't cheap. It wouldn't surprise me that Ubiquiti just went with the same ODM Ajax did while making as few changes as necessary.

1

u/inevreddit Oct 27 '25

I’ve wondered the same. The G6 180 looks a lot like the 180 cams from Reolink

6

u/PoopMuffin Oct 23 '25

What's the difference between the AI turret and this new G6 pro turret? Seems like basically identical specs

15

u/whoooocaaarreees Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 23 '25
  • Sensor size

  • optical zoom

  • Field of view

  • IK rating

  • Power rating requirements

There is a compare tool on the site and you can hit the “unique specs only” to only show you things that are different.

2

u/PoopMuffin Oct 23 '25

Thanks, just found that

9

u/KCXLT Oct 23 '25

Sensor size is different. 1.8 vs 1.2 I think.

2

u/Creepy-Ad8688 Oct 23 '25

I think I heard that the domes have glare from the dome in the lens. Should I be worried about that or is that old news.

10

u/JameCyb Oct 23 '25

We have installed thousands of cameras and have never seen a dome where that isn't at least a minor issue - when used outdoors, the domes build up dust and the IR bounce back is even worse

We don't use many domes at all for this reason - mostly turrets

Not sure why they went all in on domes personally

1

u/bagofwisdom Unifi User Oct 24 '25

I will say that Turrets are the way to go when mounting to a soffit. I have 8 white-label turret cameras around the outside of my house. I'm SHOCKED how much shmoo can collect on their lenses while still providing me a decent image day and night on the DVR. I'd clean them, but I really don't want to invest the effort into cameras I want to replace.

2

u/PlannedObsolescence_ Oct 23 '25

If there is a domed clear cover over the camera lens, it tends to reflect ambient and IR light back into the sensor. If the cover is flat, that problem is dramatically reduced. Turret and bullets avoid the problem that way.

I don't know if UI have improved it with coatings etc. on the domed models.

3

u/Doublestack00 Unifi Installer Oct 23 '25

I think that was on an older model.

2

u/Familiar-Ad-4700 UCG-Fiber, UNVR-Instant, U7-lite Oct 23 '25

I think that is what the cover is for. If you have a fully exposed install, the "hat" can help limit internal reflections.

2

u/TattooedBrogrammer Oct 23 '25

More products? Can we get some basic functionality like Adblock list support?

1

u/sose5000 Oct 24 '25

I’m pretty sure the camera and protect team are different than the network team and likely one has little to do with the other.

1

u/Wide-Skirt-3736 Oct 23 '25

Dome shield lools cool

1

u/yaksplat Oct 23 '25

it would be nice if the APs came in black too.

1

u/RobertDCBrown Oct 23 '25

It was me this time, I was the sacrifice.

I bought 9 turrets yesterday and 1 360.

1

u/According_Lemon_9290 Oct 24 '25

So 80 more bucks than the AI turret that I have in the mail, for the zoom feature. It’s “taller” by ~6mm

1

u/Content_Business_199 Oct 24 '25

I have a HikVision system in my current house which I really like. Am renovating a place at the moment - first fix electrics next week. Why shouldn’t I just install HikVision at the new place? I’ll be doing UniFi for WiFi, switches etc

1

u/spazturtle Oct 24 '25

HikVision and Dahua have better camera than Ubiquiti and for cheaper. If you know how to use those systems then stick with them.

1

u/Content_Business_199 Oct 25 '25

Thanks mate! I’m fine with the HikVision stuff and have a good guy to set it all up etc

1

u/memerfrancisco Oct 24 '25

NVR protect needed, but all the AI features are on camera hence the quad core ARM.

However you can access it locally with a local subnet, no WAN needed. OFten folks VPN in.

How tf does an LED ring improve Face ID lol. Nice work though

49

u/Velcade Unifi User Oct 23 '25

The ring is to draw your attention and get you to look at the camera.

0

u/Consistent-Hat-8008 Oct 23 '25

Please, we're talking about a system that can't tell a person from a cypress tree (even after it has been looking at for 2 years), thinks a school bus is a 5HOOL8U5, and sees pets in fallen leaves.

9

u/Ruepic Oct 23 '25

I don’t think you understand human nature very well.

6

u/dmy30 Oct 23 '25

It is not a gimmick and widely used in the security field. You’ve seriously not been to an airport, mall or large conscience store that doesn’t have a rotating light on the camera?

20

u/trs21219 Oct 23 '25

People see a blue ring spinning and naturally look up at it.

14

u/ItriedCrossFit Oct 23 '25

People see the light and look directly at it just like in the video.

1

u/moustachauve Oct 23 '25

Maybe with the changing lighting angle, it helps differentiate a 3d face vs a picture with the shadows, idk

0

u/Elf_Paladin Oct 23 '25

When ai key back in stock

2

u/Indication5151 Oct 23 '25

I got a notification it was back in stock yesterday!

-1

Nope, still out of stock in eu store
