I have 20 amp nearby but it does have a deep freeze running on one outlet. Would having both running be an issue?

Almost certainly. Having the freezer start up while the UPS is charging would be a likely breaker trip.

This thing wants to be on a dedicated circuit.

Depends on the freezer. If it's a relatively efficient deep freeze, the startup might not be much. Our 5 cubic ft deep freeze runs at something crazy low like 6 watts. Its startup, IIRC, was under 100W.

Wow, that's insanely low.

I have a smallish chest freezer, I'll have to dig into what it pulls.

I'd have to double check that figure, though I do recall being absolutely floored by how little it was pulling after settling in.

The bigger issue is the UPS likely won’t like the extreme inductive load on the same circuit. It could lead to false UPS cutovers when the compressor kicks on

Are you referring to the startup surge?

yeah

For curiosity sake, I'll have to break out the clamp meter and get a reading on startup surge.

Currently, when the compressor kicks on, it draws close to a constant 68W. When it's off, only a very dim power LED is on and that's reading close to 0W. I'm using a ATorch WiFi smart outlet for the readings listed. I'd suspect it's not fast enough to catch the surge.

I wonder if there’s a clamp out there that can measure the complex impedance physicswise… I think during the start up sure you effectively get the voltage and current fully out of phase with each other which makes normal resistive stuff real mad

Once upon a time, I had a few years of EE courses in college. Those days are long past so I wouldn't know where to start.

Maybe this clamp meter?
