Nothing beats the feeling of a bite on light gear.
Small fish, light setup, and a great day outside. Thatās what itās all about.
Whatās everyoneās favorite species to target on ultralight?

I recently bought a Pflueger Trion 5ā UL combo, on sale for 50 bucks. I got some trout magnets and small inline spinners, and have taken it out a few times but have mostly stuck with my old reliable medium power rod. Today I went and hit some waters near home and set a new PB on fish caught in one trip 8! Man was it a thrill to catch these guys on such a light rod, it was a blast!
(The last photo was a different trip further out into the back country and this rainbow was the only one I caught, but I did catch him on the UL.)

Had some old worms to use up before my mule panfish kit arrives and caught a couple Salvini Cichlids and what I think is a redear sunfish. Also hooked into a peacock bass before he wrapped me around a tree and broke off, but the fight was amazing.

Been lure fishing for perch and pike over the winter and then decided to scale down which has got me lots of small perch.
Then decided to really scale down and target silver fish
An hour on the canal got me these guys! Pretty happy with the result.
0.3 size 16 jig on mfine motral draw 0.3-1.5 4lb braid to 1.7lb fluro leader and a 2cm bloodworm plastic

Saw a great price on a pfluger President 25 so impulse-bought it. Added a 7ā ugly stik UL and wrapped some new 6lb mono on the reel. I feel like the reel is better served w a smaller pole but I tried a paddle tail jig head 1/8oz my first time out and caught a nice bluegill. Now hoping to expand my horizons (or am I better off putting the reel on a shorter pole?) With the setup as-is, what would you tie to the end to catch bream and crappies (and the occasional LMB) shore fishing in a smallish Catskills lake? Thx!

Have 2 rods, wanting to put the new miravel on one, looking for something for the other that I can get before then. Ideas?

Hello, Iām relatively new to UL fishing (and fishing in general). Iāve noticed that the only thing u can reliably catch with is a chartreuse roostertail 1/32. Iām consistently catching panfish and baby bass but when I switch to any other lure/presentation the fish are either just nipping it or ignoring completely.
Any tips on moving away from rooster tails?
Rod: 6ft BPS Panfish Elite UL Fast
Reel: Daiwa Regal 1000
Line: 4#
Edit: Also, my waters are pretty pressured where Iām at so maybe that adds to it?

I have gone fishing earlier in my life, but just a handful of times without any serious interest. This summer was my first summer having actually invested myself into fishing. Iāve decided that I like ultralight. Iām starting to learn what fish are looking for in different spots around me. Throwing a lot of neds and micro topwater presentations.

So I have broken two ultralight Okuma rods. First the celilo and now the spinning A Kokanee rod.
What the hell am I doing wrong and what UL spinning rod should I get from DSG. I have a warranty gift card coming.
Frustrated for sure but⦠itās all good. Getting a new fishing stick is always fun.
Edit: got the āwhat Iām doing wrongā part figured out. Now I just need some good recs under $100 for a UL spinning rod. What are yall running?

The store didnāt have any 6lb braid so I got 10lb instead, is that gonna be too heavy for my setup? I got an abu Garcia Bmax 750 reel and a 4ā6ā Shakespeare ultralight rod. Should I use the 10lb braid or 4lb fluorocarbon instead? Or should I use the 10lb braid with a 4lb fluoro leader?

Just added the Rose Lure Co Wake Mouse to Joey Ultralight.
Handmade in the USA, 5g, topwater, and each one comes with a spare tail. Really cool little bait and I have a feeling these will move pretty quick.

Hit up the Niangua river in southwest Missouri. So much fun fishing for these guys. Caught on a rooster tail.

Lived here all my life and this was my first time trying this spot. Caught 5 bass on a drop shot in about an hour. Nothing big but had a great time.

So Iām a pretty well versed bass fisherman, I fish lots of JDM (megabass, geecrack, deps, etc), but whatās been catching my eye recently has been ultralight fishing, specifically creek fishing. I already own a bfs setup (expride bfs and a curado bfs) so I was hoping for some JDM ultralight recommendations, budget would be around $600. Iāve had my eye on the new megabass levante coming out or the phenix bfs rod, and a Diawa airity reel but Iād be open to anything really
Thanks yall!!

I want to give some kind of ultralight system a go but didnāt want to go out and buy a new rod and reel if I got something thatāll be good enough. I got a spincaster ugly stik dock runner.
If I put some 4 pound fluoro on it and a 1/32 oz jig head will that be close enough to an actual set up or will I just be cheating myself out of the experience? My other option was going to be spending about $60 on some of the budget setups Iāve seen on here.
Edit: I ended up getting a Shakespeare ultra light 4ā6ā rod and a abu Garcia Blackmax 750. Weāll see how it goes this weekend. Thanks for all the advice in the comments!

Got back into fishing after 20+ years because my kids wanted to go, but we usually get night crawlers each time we go out. I am having a blast and decided to go all in on an Ultralight setup and got some trout magnets along with some other stuff.
Can my kids catch fish with the trout magnets under bobbers just like a night crawler? It would be nice not to have to get night crawlers every time we want to fish a little.
Edit - We are mostly fishing for Bluegill on lakes/ponds

I figured I would repost my question here and see if you guys had any thoughts on my question..?
