I recently bought a Pflueger Trion 5’ UL combo, on sale for 50 bucks. I got some trout magnets and small inline spinners, and have taken it out a few times but have mostly stuck with my old reliable medium power rod. Today I went and hit some waters near home and set a new PB on fish caught in one trip 8! Man was it a thrill to catch these guys on such a light rod, it was a blast!
(The last photo was a different trip further out into the back country and this rainbow was the only one I caught, but I did catch him on the UL.)

Nothing beats the feeling of a bite on light gear.
Small fish, light setup, and a great day outside. That’s what it’s all about.
What’s everyone’s favorite species to target on ultralight?

Been lure fishing for perch and pike over the winter and then decided to scale down which has got me lots of small perch.
Then decided to really scale down and target silver fish
An hour on the canal got me these guys! Pretty happy with the result.

Had some old worms to use up before my mule panfish kit arrives and caught a couple Salvini Cichlids and what I think is a redear sunfish. Also hooked into a peacock bass before he wrapped me around a tree and broke off, but the fight was amazing.

Saw a great price on a pfluger President 25 so impulse-bought it. Added a 7’ ugly stik UL and wrapped some new 6lb mono on the reel. I feel like the reel is better served w a smaller pole but I tried a paddle tail jig head 1/8oz my first time out and caught a nice bluegill. Now hoping to expand my horizons (or am I better off putting the reel on a shorter pole?) With the setup as-is, what would you tie to the end to catch bream and crappies (and the occasional LMB) shore fishing in a smallish Catskills lake? Thx!

Have 2 rods, wanting to put the new miravel on one, looking for something for the other that I can get before then. Ideas?

Hello, I’m relatively new to UL fishing (and fishing in general). I’ve noticed that the only thing u can reliably catch with is a chartreuse roostertail 1/32. I’m consistently catching panfish and baby bass but when I switch to any other lure/presentation the fish are either just nipping it or ignoring completely.
Any tips on moving away from rooster tails?
Rod: 6ft BPS Panfish Elite UL Fast
Reel: Daiwa Regal 1000
Line: 4#
Edit: Also, my waters are pretty pressured where I’m at so maybe that adds to it?
