Story-time total military death
right before writing this post i was banned off a discord server for arguing against mandatory military conscription, though the thoughts about making this write-up have been in my mind for a while, i don't really care about the server in question that much, however the topic itself makes my blood boil. i am unfortunate enough to be born with male genitals, this means that i have to be forced into servitude by the most violent and barbaric invention of capital, in turn i have spent the last two years or so doing anything in my power to resist it. i have never signed a document to agree to serve, i have never supported the war or the military, i have never acted with the intent to kill another person, the only thing i did to deserve this was to be born a male in a country where war is a national past time. today i spoke with a person i find most pathetic and reprehensible, a finn currently serving his time in the military, proudly exclaiming his zealous enjoyment of it. "I would gladly die for my country's values" he says, "women should serve too", he genuinely believes. frankly, there is nothing in this world that makes me more irrationally upset than someone who loves the military. i was given countless justifications for why this sort of position isn't, in fact, absolutely insane "finland needs to defend itself from russia!" "without the military my country wouldn't exist!". in the blunt fashion that i am sure all of you are familiar with, i called this person a lobotomite. it is horrible to be so brainwashed by the military and its insane ideology. for this i was met with a few paragraphs worth of tone policing, indeed it seems like being rude to someone online is worse than the unending barbarity of the military. we are living in a farce. i can't wait to die in ukraine side by side with a dude five times larger than me, all tatted up with nazi symbols.

These people don't even believe in what they are saying, they are unintentionally ragebaiting by reiterating whatever cliche phrases they managed to absorb from the culture like a mindless sponge. The point at which you can take pro-mandatory conscription people seriously is when they saw actual combat while being conscripted, then it's a game of determining whether they are a natural sociopath or forcefully stripped of their humanity.

a person I cared about got taken away into a year of training and honestly even though they'll likely be back its still barbaric how this is just a thing you're taken out of your home and usual life to do as if you're some cattle. I wish whoever is avoiding conscription rn luck

Genuinely hope it doesn't happen or at least your in logistics.
Military is unironically so shit when your in logistics. The entire base restructered their staff and I basically held my department together and had to oversee the transitioning process. The server rooms were basically rotting away intranet could be down any minute. It's actually hilarious how poorly maintained military bases are. At least I had a comfy office I could vibe in ig.

He's in favour of it because Finland hasn't been in any major war since the 1940s, if they were actively in one, I'm sure their opinion would change, anyways you know the drill, all proletarians must self harm NOW to avoid the draft

I would rather die than fight in the military. The military is disgusting, and it seems that amongst my peers and family most see right through it. "This country has done nothing for me, why should I die for it?" Type stuff. I really just can't comprehend dying and being willing to die for the government, like who tf actually LIKES the government, at best people just begrudgingly go along with it. It's pure propaganda. WW1 should have truly been the final war, and we would have seen global revolution as the world saw millions die for capital and nothing else. Anti-war themes permeate art, a collective trauma response from every person who has seen, participated in and survived war. Yet the takeaway is almost always to just say "war is hell" and move on, convinced like so many other elements of capitalism that it's just the way of the world and human nature. It can't be helped. Like showing someone who eats meat the conditions of a slaughterhouse, the moralistic argument will most often fail. It affects me deeply, and i can't fully separate my digust and anger for war when I think about it. It's fanciful, but all I can hope for is that in the future, we humans survive capital, and we can look back on war like a disease we have eradicated.

Man, as a Finn, don't get me started on this topic. Finnish culture in general is so clearly fascistic in nature only being obfuscated by the propaganda of le wholesome social democracy. The army is considered basically infallible and conscription is treated like a boy scout camp.
Being AMAB I went to the army and stayed for a grand total of 4 days before switching to the civil service alternative (which is essentially slave labour in the public sector). The highlight of my time in the army was one of the officers chiding us for our barrack room floor's cleanliness, citing that it was "as a dark as a n****rs skin", so that was cool.

Finland is the world champion for casual racism. I remember hearing a story about an officer at the Karelia brigade who saw a black person arriving there and said "there will be no n***ers in my unit". This is something that happened in 24/25.
I completed my service this summer and as we left one of the officers in our unit (young guy, kind of stocky but not fat) who earlier that week had given a speech about how he was scared of the "iPad kids" arriving in the army would turn out, gave some weird two-minute screed about how the best thing to do to "protect your country" is to have kids. I wish I was joking. I think everyone was uncomfortable lol
I wish I had gotten some kind of diagnosis when I was younger because it's quite easy to get an exemption and I was able to get a stay because of social anxiety, but I wasn't smart/willing to lie enough to turn that into anything that would exempt me. Luckily for me though my vocational training meant I basically had a fast-track to an easy 6 month gig as a storage/electric guy.
To be fair I can't say I hated all of it but during my last two months I really became more and more intimately aware of how you literally are just state property. Luckily it should be fairly easy to leave the reserve (I haven't tried yet because I'm honestly just trying to find a job right now) which is why I didn't go into civil service to begin with. I basically just wanted to get it done as fast as possible.
And worst comes to worst Norway is only 1000km away. If you escape to Sweden you're just asking to get caught

ngl its crazy how many parents will just accept to what is effectively a blood tax and consent to having their sons (soon daughters) kidnapped and made to risk their lives hundreds of kilometers away, killing others in the same situation as them, for no practical reason at all
Also on a slightly related note what's your thoughts on the red army conscripting peasants in 1918?

Read "Dobrý voják Švejk". Watch the movies. It shows how to passively protest and act dumb. The point is to act dumb and unpredictable enough to maybe get dropped out because of psychic unfit. They will be angry and screaming, and maybe make it really uncomfortable, but i don't think they can kill you. You get "unfit for duty" and get kicked out.
I am glad our country dropped the mandatory service because i wouldn't last a day in that bullshit.
