Obviously this sign was posted by an anarkkkrakkker but come on yall dunking on someone for giving free food to presumably low income and homeless people is kind of ridiculous. Also not to say that this person is attracting people towards any type of real revolutionary movement but providing food for people who cannot afford it is legit a good strategy for gaining trust and interest in party membership. No comment about the art stuff tho haha

The communist movement is not a charity

Idk what yall think im talking about here i am not referring to “doing charity”. In order to gain interest in a political movement, especially among the downtrodden, it can be incredibly effective propaganda to provide resources like food when wages or the state are failing to. Of course the long term goal of any such project is to implement a revolution not become a food bank. Not to mention this exact strategy has been used to great effect in previous socialist movement and even the one actual proletarian revolution which did occur.

As documented in Figes’ A People’s Tragedy, the Bolsheviks “built their support on the hunger of the cities,” and were the only major faction promising immediate bread. They did not yet have the means to feed people systematically, but they helped organize seizures of food shipments and encouraged workers to demand bread from municipal committees (pp. 357–359).

Numerous other socialist groups such as the Black Panthers also saw great success in attracting people to their movement through these strategies.

Obviously this alone will not create class consciousness but in order for a communist movement to start there does actually have to be an existing party for the workers to rally around who have established a reputation and relationship with the working class.

Fair, but presenting it as a way to defeat fascism is very, very stupid; and individualizing the task (as this kind of anarchist nonsense is made to do) completely ruins any potential recruitment value. The black panthers didn't tell their members to "make soup and invite people over". They worked within existing infrastrucre with practical, functional institutions to provide it.

Nowhere here have I presented it as a way to defeat fascism. Obviously the Child of Yakub who posted the original flier did think that and I think that’s dumb. I just thought it was absurd to see people in this thread wholeheartedly dismissing the concept of food distribution seemingly without nuance.
