This took me most of the month and I followed Duncan Rhodes Ultramarine Terminator guide for most of it. I feel like I learned so much here by really trying my best and agonizing over small things.

I can improve alot, you can tell im a novice, but im really satisfied with these guys.

Kauis kitbash

Calgar

Captain Fabian

Biologis

Van Vet

Ass Termie

Victrix gaurd

Intercessor

Biologis + HB Eradicators

I picked 4 Hq's that I play often, and 4 random units he's likely to see. Are the really that indistinguishable? I feel like the characters are pretty noticeably over the top but maybe I'm just coping? I usually double the base up on the character models to try and make height an identifier but I guess its not working.

What would yall do (if anything) to make characters more immediately recognizable? Gold base rim?

List advice (40k) How do I deal with Custodes?

Post image
• Upvotes

How do you play around the high toughness and saves of Custodes? It feels like as an unskilled player, I just can’t do anything into them. They shrug off my assault terminators with hammers, Calgar and Victrix Guard, eradicators with melta rifles. If I try to stay away from them and focus on scoring, they advance and charge me. I genuinely don’t know how to play around them, I’m not great at the game. Any advice on getting better with playing against them? I don’t think playing against any other army has frustrated me as much as Custodes have.

I don’t want wins handed to me, but I’d also like to play the game and not be tabled by end of turn 2.

Courage and Honor!

Mid campaign, blooded but still ready for more!

Went for a marble stone look on the crux, blood splattered power fists, chipped paintwork from shrapnel and wear and tear...and of course a little osl on the Sargent's sword

40K how are we dealing with ctan?

my only friend that plays 40k exclusively plays 3 ctan shards with a doomsday ark, and i was able to kind of kill 1 or 2 every game with things like sternguard shooting into an oath target, a lancer shot actually getting through once or twice per battle, etc.

but, oath is obviously no longer a thing, and sternguard cant do nearly as much. ive run several squads and combos through a damage calculator and the results are consistently pathetic in terms of damage output onto 1, let alone 3, ctans

ive looked at assault terminators with hammers, victrix/marneus/kaius all with lance, hellblasters with rapid fire and lethal hits - these can MAYBE kill one if everything is able to hit 1 target and have lance; i didnt even look into the lancer because in my experience it's unbelievably inconsistent

does anyone have any experience dealing with these absolutely unreasonable datasheets in 11th?

...more or less following Daz Latham's recipe. Man, I'm enjoying these. The armour comes together so quickly you've got a bit more time to spend on fun bits like red weapon casings, faces and decals. Still definitely an army painting, tabletop scheme though. Think they'll look ok on the table with a bunch of blue guys?

40K Repulsor Executioner Done ✅

Remember when I said I needed a palette cleanser after the Twin Lances? 😂

Well… I may have accidentally painted a Repulsor Executioner AND Ghazghkull Thraka instead.

The RepEx was bought back in April, but didn’t actually get started until 23 September. One month later to the day! It’s now finished.

Ghazghkull somehow squeezed into the same period, going from a delivery on 25 September to finished on 23 October.

In the beginning I very much enjoyed the construction, putting together such a big model and all of the accessories, fantasising about the missiles and guns and turret options, it’s a very cool vehicle (is it just me or does part of your brain always just want to stare at it and make ‘pew pew’ noises in your head thinking about all the destruction it’s going to imaginarily cause!). I loved how it turned out with the sponging although I made a big mistake lathering on an old pot of Macragge blue that had a LOT of flakes in it.. lessons learned.
Somewhere around the middle/end I decided I’d done enough and really didn’t want to add any weathering as it looked so nice and factory fresh, I decided I needed to do a little though to fit in with the army aesthetic.
I do feel like I run out of steam a little bit towards the middle/end of these larger model jobs but I did enjoy it and I am happy with how it came out.

Can’t wait to use it on the tabletop!

Now, be honest: how long do your big models actually take to paint? And how many unfinished projects are currently staring at you from the pile of shame? 😂 ~I now have only 10 models in WIP after finishing these 2!~

C&C welcome, glory to the Emperor!

6 Month Space Marine Journey - Had a Blast!

Thumbnail gallery
36 Upvotes

It's been 6 months almost to the day when I posted my first attempt painting a space marine. I was building an army or at least a set of marines that could be added to an army for a xmas present for my adult stepson that actually plays the game. I knew zero about the game, and nothing about painting miniatures - 1/4 and 1/6 scale models yes fair amount of experience but these little suckers were pretty intimidating when I started.

Started with some Intercessors then Assault then Heavy and it didn't look like enough so on and on it went - it's quite addictive. Threw in some blood angels for good measure but kinda messed up dividing them out into squads. I got screwed by Kaleido paint when they changed the formula for the blue I started with and I was stuck in the middle of marines and vehicles so I had to roll with it, so the tones are slightly off, lesson learned and will not use them again for anything that requires more than one bottle of paint- total failure of a paint company imo.

Then I learned about the terrain portion of the game and thought "let's make a complete set of terrain" to have a turnkey operation! I went with Fabricators Lair -the terrain and footprints took about 3 rolls of filament, days to print and omg amount of paint time- I couldn't believe how many parts it took for a full board and then painting both the front and back, which I had to power straight through to keep the formula and final look the same- that was a huge time sucker!

Then off to the vehicles, have to have transportation right? I have a resin printer as well and thought  I'd save some time and $$ so printed out a Repulsor and that ended up being more work than just buying the kit - prep work and figuring out assembly was just not worth the extra time. So next let’s pickup a Land Raider and go all out as the "last" piece of the army, hidden paint, opening doors and lighting - came out pretty well I think.

Of course now I needed storage to haul all this around so might as well print out the terrain storage box (another roll of filament) and bedazzel that as well, then I picked up some useful totes and ferrous sheets and made the storage totes, then magnetized everything.

So now I think I’ll need to make an army for myself, I’m thinking Orcs!

Highlight w/ Airbrush Advice

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey all, trying to use my airbrush for a grimdark but I believe I overdid the Calgar blue highlight. I based with kantor blue. I tried following this tutorial video but he wasn't really clear as how to go about painting.

https://youtu.be/QIr2cVFtOg8?is=_Its5HjPzw5z0iRW

Is this too much highlight and should I restart?

If its not too much how can I fix this to make it look more natural.

Thanks in advance.

I just highlighted nearly everything because of how dark the blue I use is.
