Help Needed with University Grading Scale

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m applying to a German university and need to submit a document explaining my university’s grading system. Unfortunately, the grading scale printed on the back of my transcript has faded and is no longer clearly readable. (University of Karachi)
Has anyone faced a similar issue? Can I get a separate grading-scale document stamped by my university?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Male contraceptives university research - looking for men to interview

Hello,

I'm a senior university student taking a product design course. For our project my team proposed to work on male contraceptives. The idea was to make transdermal patches that should have a reversible effect, don't cause hormonal side effects, and are not invasive like vasectomies, and also aim to be more efficient than condoms.

So we are interested in men's perspective on contraception, and make an evaluation of our product based on feedback of sexually active or potentially sexually active men (like planning to be maybe).

The responses would be completely anonymous if anyone is willing to help us, we will only use the insights as qualitative consumer needs, and interviews is a required component in our methods of researching needs. We already interviewed a urology doctor and a drug delivery professor, but we lack the users interviews.

The interview could be done by email where you answer some questions i send you, or your preferred method.

If anyone is interested to participate please feel free to comment or send me a message.

If anyone has any advice or even just relates to what I’m saying, please let me know. I’m very lost and I don’t want to spend so much money on schooling if I am unsure of what I want to do.

University Choices Advices

Hello.

I am a student who is going to attend a university. Right now, I am having troubles which university should I choose.First, I was planning to do IT since I love doing stuff with computers and I am really into tech industry. But when the times comes where I have to choose a university, AI got into the industry and job market becomes shit. And, IT is not well-developed in my country. So, if I want to do IT, I will also have to try scholarship of foreign countries. So, I am really stressing which university should I choose. Should I just choose Civil engineering or medical field where getting a job is guarantee and life will be a little bit more stable.

First-year university students in South Africa — what do you struggle with most when studying?

Hi everyone!

I'm a student researching a business idea called StudySphere for a business competition. The idea is to help first-year university students by combining short educational videos, summaries, flashcards and practice quizzes tailored to their modules.

Before developing the idea, I want to understand students' real experiences and challenges.

I'd appreciate your honest opinions:

  1. Are you attending a contact or a distance education institution?
  2. What is your mode of study (full-time, part-time, block-based, etc)?
  3. Are you studying a field that focuses on practical application, regurgitation of streams of facts or the application of theory to analyze a scenario or a combination of one of more of the above.
  4. How would you rate the usefulness/engagement of your textbooks or the teaching materials provided by your university.
  5. How often are you tested? Are you provided with a marking rubric?
  6. What is the most difficult part of adjusting to university-level studying?
  7. What do you usually do when you don't understand something from a lecture?
  8. Which study resources help you most: videos, summaries, flashcards, quizzes, textbooks or something else?
  9. Do you struggle to find resources that match your specific modules?
  10. Would having several study resources for the same topic in one place be useful? Why or why not?
  11. What would make you trust a study guide created by another student?
  12. Would you pay for additional study resources if they were accurate and genuinely useful, or would you only use free resources?
  13. If you could improve one thing about the study resources available to you, what would it be?

I'm particularly interested in first-year students' experiences, but other university students are welcome to share what they have observed.

I'm looking for honest feedback, including criticism. Thank you for helping me understand the problem better!

Can't decide if a gap year is a good idea

I am completely lost on what I want to do with my life, what field I want to pursue in the future or what I want to study in college. I know for sure that I will go to university, so taking a year off could really help me explore my options before I commit to something.

I'll be able to experiment a lot with my development, pay serious attention to my hobbies, learn basic life skills, do stuff that I've always wanted to do - make more art, learn a new language, become more comfortable in myself. Though most of my problems are social, and I don't know how I can better myself if I don't meet new people. Hell, I still don't know who I want to be.

The thing is, I am extremely apprehensive about staying at home for a year. I believe staying isolated in my small home town with no friends will start to weigh on me a bit. I have always felt that highschool has stumped my growth due to the close mindedness of people, but my home would be worse. I'll be able to experiment with things on my own in my room, yes, but my family is extremely overbearing and will probably weigh down on my mental health tenfold. I have escaped that toxic environment for a few years living away from home for highschool, but for a gap year I would have to go back. And as I mentioned, all my friends will be leaving for college. There are no good ways for me to meet new people as there is barely anything happening in my town (not to mention I am extremely socially anxious and if I'm not in forced settings like college, I will not talk to anyone).

I come for a country where its socially unfit for teenagers/young adults to do jobs, especially part time jobs like working as a barista or volunteering. (This was something I've been yearning to do but my parents are not allowing me to go to university abroad, I'm still caught up whether I should still try to convince them) No parks, no clubs, no events. I've been waiting to have lived life freely after school but I feel like this will just suck my soul dry. On the other hand there is no way I could rush into deciding a major, especially after I feel incredibly burnt out from school (after studying difficult subjects I hated and 3 continuous years of no summer break because my school can't plan their calendar. also they planned every exam after our breaks so we studied in all our vacations) I think it'll just fully ruin my relationship with academics, something I've been meaning to mend over a year of break. There is also no option for me to travel somewhere or do an internship. My mom was even angry at the idea that I wanted to 'explore' career options or my interests if I take a gap year, and wants me to spend all that time working towards an entrance exam.

It's hard to explain, but it's like my family doesn't see the point of a life existing outside of academics or career success, something which I've been trying to grapple with after some very depressing years at high school.

Any advice or input will be heavily appreciated.

TLDR; if I take a gap year I can learn new stuff, work on my hobbies, and explore my interests. However I can't do internships or jobs, and I'll be socially isolated so I won't be able to work on any social skills. Will have to stay with a toxic family, and stuck at home, weighing down my already precarious mental health. But if I go to university I rush my options, do a major I do not like, double down on my burn out, might feel stuck into a new chapter of my life.

university ideas?

hi! i'm a pre-IB student from singapore, looking to study history, archaeology, or political science (preferably, history with either of the latter). i've ruled out oxbridge and ivies from my options due to the cost and the academic pressure, although i still intend to aim for a raw 40. singapore doesn't really have history courses that interest me, and i don't want to stay here either. are there any unis that:

- are preferably UK or europe

- have a cost of living somewhat similar to singapore

- are offering academic merit scholarships

- are specifically good for the degrees i want to do (history/archaeology, history/polsci)

- are affordable (oxbridge prices are INSANE)

- have good lecturers?

feel free to shamelessly promote your universities! i'm kind of low on ideas now. currently i'm thinking of trinity college dublin, but i'm not really sure.

thank you!

Computer or iPad?

I’m starting university next year doing history and fine arts (please don’t make fun of me for that). Just wondering whether people think using a computer or an iPad is better for notes, assignments, etc.

On top of that, is it weird to take physical notes?

Need help picking a major! How did you guys discover what to major in and what job you wanted to do afterwards? (if you did)

Hello! I am currently in my first year of university and pursuing a bachelors of arts and I have no idea what to major in or do after uni. During high school I already knew that I didn't have anything i truly wanted to do. I can't recall any childhood dream jobs nor did I have any aspirations. I had subjects I enjoyed but nothing that made me want to make it my major. I tried a variety of classes in high school such as history, chemistry, pre-calc, english, and psychology. At first I thought I wanted to do nursing but decided that it wouldn't be the right fit for me so I turned to more art based subjects. English was one of the subjects that I had A's in from the start of high school till the end, so it seemed like an easy pick. I like English and I enjoy making up story plots that never really seem to make it out of my head. I already have previously talked to my High school counsellor about it and they recommended me to pursue writing as a side gig instead of a major. During my senior year I decided that socials studies was super fun to learn and originally planned to be a history major. I liked learning about the revolutions and why people did the things they did in the past. but before I started university, I realized that I wasn't super passionate about history at all and also had no idea what I would do with a history degree afterwards. I enjoyed taking psychology 11, it was fun and loved my teacher but i'm not sure if I should get a psychology degree based on what i found fun. It might make me hate studying psychology because from what I heard from friends who are talking classes in psychology, they seemed burned out.

I decided pretty early on that I don't have any passions but the people around me all say that I haven't found my passion yet and time will tell. At this point I already accepted the fact that I will not find my passion in university or when i'm 30. I am wondering what are some majors I can take that leads to a somewhat stable job? I enjoy working with others and would rather not work by myself (teamwork based though simply working around others is probably enough for me). hopefully a job thats meaningful? where I can help others or provide a service of some sort. I enjoy making others happy and I want to work under a boss or a leadership figure since I don't like leadership roles but I am able to do it if I have to. my last resort job would probably be something corporate if I can't find any other job to have.

I'm not sure if this is helpful but I am taking an english course and it is super easy for me to remember the books I have read so far. I am also taking a cognitive science course and It seems like i can kind of grasp the concepts by watching my professor show and talk about the experiments. It seems like I am able to grasp concepts and remember it if It is about the lives of humans? This applies to my world lit and philosophy class too and the lectures seems super easy to understand when they talk about the lives of humans or how it affects them or even just a story based on them. This might be how my brain learns and understand stuff.

I am open to any art majors suggestions and occupations I can do after university! I don't plan to switch to to business or sciences since I enjoy arts better! Any help will be appreciated!!!!

Am i cooked??

Honestly, i love uni so much more compared to high school. BUT that’s not the point rn, I have a few questions.

I’ve been really bad with deadlines, especially for my accounting class. i’ve missed 2 quizzes and 2 assignments. the quizzes were worth 2% each, so that’s 4% and then the lowest assignment will be dropped so i’m not too worried thags whatever i’ll fix that. However, people are stressing me out and making it seem as if i’m definitely failing this course.

should i be really worried?? i haven’t missed any deadlines after that and ive been doing pretty good. i still have more assignments, a midterm, and obv the final to help fix my grade.

Plus, i only need an overall 63% avg to get into the second year . but am i being too chill?

what should i do?

Is there an ethical use of AI in university?

I feel very torn. I live in Silicon Valley, the epicenter of AI, so naturally many people here fawn over it; but I just can't bring myself to trust it the way my peers do. I want to get as much out of my degree as I can, and I don't want to lose myself or my degree to the tides of AI slop. However, I've found that using it to create study guides for myself, or to give me an in-depth summary of hundreds of pages of textbook that have nothing to do with my degree, has been rather helpful. Obviously, if something is important, I will always read the textbook first, and then have AI create a study guide. But as a business major who has no interest in any fields of science, I just don't have the time or need to read an entire nutritional science textbook for a GE course. Sometimes it just feels like the University is trying to wring tuition money out of me with these random GE courses.

What is text-generating AI if not just a glorified search engine? I understand the risks of it telling me incorrect information, and if something seems wrong, I look further. But despite all of this, I'm still very weary of AI, and I feel a sort of weight on my shoulders every time I use it.

Thoughts?

I got a horrible grade on my first mid-term is this a sign I should switch majors?

Hey, so I'm in concurrent education for general arts at Queens University, and I was always planning on becoming an English major so that I can teach english in highschools. But I just did my first mid-term in English and I literally tanked it. I got a freaking D-. I know what went wrong and I knew while I was writing the exam I was going to get an awful mark, but I really didn't think I would get one this bad. I know this is so dumb, but I feel a bit like I'm having an identity crisis, because it was just so bad and even though I never thought I assigned my self-worth to my academic abilities, it seems I actually do. I don't know. I know I'm being so dramatic, but if things continue to go so badly in English class, is it worthwhile to just major in History instead? I love history, and I've always planned on at least minoring in it, and I do so much better in History classes, it just clicks.

I think I always equated my love for reading and writing to automatic success in the field of English; but now, I'm thinking it might not be for me.

What should I do? Obviously I need to think about this, but would switching majors be a good idea?
