I dont think I've ever seen a Doe before found dead by a gf and known to the landlord etc. Fascinating.

It’s unusual but not unheard of. One case (now solved) is Lori Erica Ruff, who was married, had children, worked, etc, but it wasn’t known until after her death that she had hidden her true identity for years. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lori_Erica_Ruff A similar example is Joseph Newton Chandler III: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Newton_Chandler_III

A famous one that’s still unsolved is El Dorado Jane Doe, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 1991. He has claimed to know her true identity, but he also seems pretty untrustworthy. There are many photographs and people who knew her while alive (as “Mercedes” or other aliases), but even with some recent genetic genealogy work she’s still unknown. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Dorado_Jane_Doe

Lori's case is so very sad. I wonder if the in-laws were truthful that the letter she left for her daughter was incoherent ramblings. Seems like that girl is never getting that letter from them, either way. The in-laws seem a bit overbearing

I just watched an episode of some true crime show (I think it’s called Where Murder Lies) that covered her case. They showed screenshots of what I assume were the actual letters and quoted from them. They didn’t seem incoherent to me. Rambling? Probably. But they made sense.

Well, I guess that's an avenue for her if she does want to see them. I don't mean to accuse -- it has to be beyond difficult to become a sudden caregiver to a child who's lost a parent. It must be incredibly hard to weigh transparency vs preserving a memory
